WIAW: Double the Fun

October 24, 2012 by Meghan 11 Comments

Remember those Double Mint Gum advertisements…

♪ “Double Your Pleasure, Double Your Fun. That’s the Statement of the Great Mint in Double Mint Gum.” ♫

Well today’s What I Ate Wednesday post is going to be something like that since I’m going to share not one, but two photos of each and every meal from Sunday. It’ll be double your pleasure, double your fun…see how considerate I am; alway thinking of you, the reader because visual stimulation is a big deal. Ever wonder why the adult movie business is so popular? Now ya know.

Happy WIAW everybody. Remember to head over to Peas & Crayons and give our fabulous hostess a big ol’ thank you for holding our weekly food fest.

Spooky Snacks and Healthy Halloween Treats

I’ve decided to document my Sunday eats for you because it was a beautiful day, which translates to fabulous food lighting. Another plus, I actually remembered to take pictures of everything except the day’s beverages. If it’s not a smoothie, it’s just not exciting, but feel free to picture me washing all of this goodness down with water, and using a cup of coffee to rouse me from my Sunday morning slumber. On with the show.

I opted to run all my errands on Sunday morning (grocery shopping, bank, drug store, etc.) so I got up early and grabbed a cup of Joe and an apple before heading out.

When I returned an hour or so later, I decided to sit down to a much needed breakfast of homemade granola, soy yogurt and raspberries. It was beyond good since I haven’t had this combination in awhile…like a couple weeks. Gasp.

After properly fueling myself, I decided to tackle some yard work. I’m not sure about most people, but I really like working in the yard, and it has been a hot minute since I’d been out there and gotten my hands dirty. It was a good time. I popped in my ear buds, cranked up the music, grabbed a lawn and leaf bag, and got down and dirty. There were moments where I played the air drums and guitar in the front yard. Regardless of how ridiculous I looked (and I really don’t care; I probably should, but I don’t), I came up with some great ideas for a spinning class (I’ll be filling in for the actual teacher on November 5th).  Who knew playing so many air instruments could work up such an appetite. So I took a break for lunch and opted to heat up some Wild Rice and Cranberry Stuffed Pumpkin. Pretty damn fancy, if you ask me.

As much as I’d like to say I made this with my CSA pumpkin, it’s just not true. They had these at Nature’s Bin, my grocery store, in the prepared foods section. I actually bought it for inspiration and because it was too pretty to pass up. Can you blame me?

Lunch was followed by more yard work, and then snack making, hours and hours of snack making, for which I am entirely grateful to have this week. I’d be starving without my snacks. Since I was already in the kitchen, I decided to keep going and whipped up some dinner. Dinner is a good meal; I think everybody should eat it. Breakfast too…and lunch and snacks.

I made an old staple: Cheddar Cauliflower Soup and enjoyed it with two Tuscan Herb bread sticks.

I also whipped up an Apple and Sweet Potato Tian to accompany the soup. I found this recipe on Pinterest. It comes from the Jolly Tomato, and its alterating layers of apple and sweet potato, drizzled with honey and cinnamon and then baked for an hour. It was sweet and soft with a bit of a crunch, and the overall flavor was more like dessert, which didn’t actually stop me from eating dessert later.

Dessert was a handful of Chocolate Covered Almonds because my grocery store was giving away free samples, and who am I to turn down free shit.

There you have it. A double dose of a day’s eats.

♫ “Double your delightment, with the right mint. For refreshment, it’s the only one.” ♪

Do you run all your errands in one day? Do you like working in the yard, and will you play an air instrument? We could start a band. Does your grocery store sometimes just give away free stuff? Mine does, and I love it.

A post can never have too many pictures and who wouldn’t want to see lots of pictures of delicious food, right?
I used to run all my erands in a day when I was at Uni but now I’m at work at 7.30am on most days and leave at around 5.30pm which doesn’t give me that much time during the week to do everything. I usually split things up and do my grocery shopping on Saturdays. Happy WIAW!

I worked in the yard this weekend too! While my spouse was shredding and bagging leaves in the front yard (to use over the next year in the compost bin) I was planting garlic, shallots, and 2 sizes of onion in the back yard. No air guitar, though, I was working on training the dog and left the music inside.

    Your pictures are gorgeous!

Aww thanks, you made my day. My pictures are all based on the weather. If it’s a nice clear day, I photograph the food outside. Gives me the best light.
We had great weather (still do) for yard work. That’s really cool you planted garlic, shallots and onions. I planted onions one year, but didn’t know how to tell when they were done.

Yep, wild rice and cranberry stuffed pumpkin. Pretty impressive except I didn’t make it. I love homemade granola, but you already know all about that.

I love the idea of double the fun! It really makes a difference in looking at food when you can see it at different angles. Hmm… did I really just say that? If this wasn’t a food blog someone might mistake me for talking about a painting. Or a sculpture! Haha 😀
