I saw this idea on Caren at Voodies site a few weeks ago, and I kind of fell in love with it. Like head over heels in love. Like I was hit hard, and I have been meaning to do it ever since. Well, today I finally got my act together and put my good intentions in motion and lo and behold, I present you with my Week In Review. Pay attention because I plan to do this on a…well, weekly, basis.
First, a little background: we all know how much I like a good list (seriously, they make me giddy), but any good List Lover will tell you, we can sometimes put a little too much pressure on ourselves to accomplish everything on said list. It’s certainly happened once or twice before to me. Shocking, since I’m normally a rock of self-control and will power (I think I just choked on that last sentence).
List lovers, true list lovers now, know that insanely glorious feeling when we cross all the items off our list. Like we are king of the world and our loyal subjects shall bow before us. The problem is as soon as one list is done, another one is born in its place because if you are a real List Lover (no posers now), you’ll pretty much have one going at all times.
So how can we take our love of listing and spin it in a positive, and perhaps less crazy way (not that I don’t enjoy a little crazy)? This is where the Week In Review comes in. It is a list, in its purest form, which encapsulates the major things I accomplished (and crossed off other lists) in the past seven days, starting with Monday and concluding on Sunday. It’s a pat on the back and an ode to myself, all in list form, of course.
Week In Review: Numero Uno
- Four Blog Posts, and one with far too much personal information about myself.
- Worked forty plus hours at my real job.
- Make two homemade soups: Beef and Noodles (for someone else) and Tomato Ginger with Tuscan Herb Croutons.
- Made Granola Peanut Butter Cups and Chocolate Covered Bananas wrapped in Walnuts (ah, yes please…I’ll take twelve)
- Did three different exercise classes: Spinning, Mixed Martial Arts, and Pilates and one at home Weight Lifting class, where my ass still hurts today. Weird, since I can’t lift weights with my buttocks. Yet.
- Cleaned the Kitchen and Dining Room, which is no easy task when you have pets, because somehow their DNA gets everywhere. In my next life, I want to come back as a cat, in my own house, because these little suckers have the life.
- Spring cleaned half of the Linen Closet and got rid of an entire trash bag of crap.
- Took down the outdoor Christmas lights and wreaths.
- Made Pumpkin Cranberry Crunch and Roasted Sweet Almonds.
- Ate Saturday breakfast out with friends and the Hubby. I had a veggie omelette and some home fries, which were only edible, after I doused them in hot sauce.
- Attended a 25th Wedding Anniversary party on Saturday night. Let me just say, I got my groove on.
- Had Sunday lunch with my BFF, where I think I volunteered to throw a baby shower at my house (shit, how did that happen).
- Did more laundry than two people have a right to generate, including but not limited to my delicates and hand wash only. I also folded and put away that same laundry.
- Finally finished my People magazine from three weeks ago. Score one for the good guys.
Now that I look back on it, in list form, I’d say that’s one hell of an impressive week. Feel free to bow before me.
What did you accomplish in the past seven days? Are you a list lover too? Tell me all about your lists, what you crossed off, and I will bow before you.

I probably accomplished way too little over the last 7 days. But I did return from the sled hockey tournament in Columbus yesterday with new Penzey’s spices: star anise, Chinese Five Spice Powder, and Cumin. Yay, me! And, while I was away, my spouse cleaned the filthy stove, yet again. So I score for me again 😉 !
Mentally I am writing a worm bin blog post, but I am stumped as to when it should go up. Not on a Friday night pizza night, for sure.
Monday seems like a great day for a week-in-review. Perhaps Sunday night, since I tend to start fresh on Monday mornings.
Meghan says
I love Penzey’s spices and spouses who clean the stove. Is he available for hire?
Jess @ JessieBear What Will You Wear says
THOSE CHOCOLATE COVERED BANANAS. I can’t even. I need them.
Meghan says
I felt the exact same way when I saw them on Taste Buds blog last Friday. It was like, Must Have. Must Have Now. So, I did and so should you because they are ridiculously easy to make and require only three ingredients.
caren @ voodies says
OMG girl, you accomplished so much!! I feel like an underachiever now!! LOL….
I must have those chocolate banana thingies!!!
Meghan says
Are you kidding me?! I’m always amazed by what you accomplish and I totally love the review idea. It’s so nice to look back and focus on what you actually got done versus what still needs to be done.
The chocolate bananas are fabulous and all gone. Go make them; they are super simple and only three ingredients.
Kat says
You cats look adorable. I am a list-lover for sure, but since I travel around a lot – basically move to a new location every 3-8 weeks – sometimes I actually forget making them. Like when I was volunteering on an olive farm I didn’t make any lists (of what: get up, run, eat, pick and process olives?)…but come to think of it I should’ve. I really should include things like ‘smile’ or ‘hug someone’ and similar small stuff to keep my days happy. Making lists helps me stay on track on my ‘new vegan’ and ‘taking care of my health mission’ (yea, my daily lists include fancy things like ‘drink lemon water’, ‘dry brush’, ‘eat only vegan’ etc). A week in review list is such a good idea though!!
Meghan says
You move every 3 – 8 weeks. Wow, that’s crazy, and you worked on an olive farm…I’m jealous. What a unique experience.
I agree lists need to include some freebies, like drink morning coffee and take nap. Another form of a positive list, which I used to do, but stopped for some reason is a gratitude list. Jot down three things each night that you are grateful for that happened that day. Again, it could be easy like took nap or more rewarding, like the support of friends and family. Happy Monday.

List lovers have ONE going at all times? Oh man, you should see my fridge–One list for what I’m going to cook, one list for every grocery store, one list for every room (as I come up with decoration/diy ideas), one list for today, one list for the week, one list for the month. Lists for everything! New list item? “Travel to Meghan’s. Eat bananas.”
Meghan says
This made me laugh so hard because I can completely and utterly relate to it. I have about seven right now: foods to buy, meals to make, blog changes to make, things to do today (relax – check!), books to read, long term projects, etc….Tell me your mind goes a bazillion miles a minute too, and I’ll swoon.
Allie says
Swoon away, good madam! My brain never slows down. It’s great for multi-tasking! Horrible for focusing and remembering to get things done. Hence the lists.
Meghan says
Swoon……Thud.
Sunnie@ModernGirlNutrition says
Such a productive (and fun!) week! You go girl for making all those recipes- the tomato soup and the banana pops look amazing! I know what I’m having for dinner (and dessert) now:)
Meghan says
Thanks Sunnie. You need to make the banana pops because they were super simple and only require three ingredients. Pretty impressive.
Natalie says
Those chocolate covered bananas look unreal, I need to make them!!
Meghan says
Yes, you absolutely should and then let me know how much you love them, because you will love them.
Heather @ Kiss My Broccoli says
Nice work! I am toooooo-tally bowing down to your awesomeness right now…especially for doing all that laundry AND folding it (it never fails, I always end up losing that motivation seconds after the dryer buzzer goes off)! Of course, I’m always impressed by how much your able to accomplish, cooking and cleaning for two, looking after those adorable fur babies, working out, AND I won’t even ask how you manage to fit in a full-time work week! Hay-seus woman, do you ever sleep?! And if not, what drugs are you on because I want some! 😉
Let’s see…hummina, hummina, hummina…what did I accomplish in the last seven days? Well…at the VERY top of that list (and I know you can appreciate this) I washed FOUR loads of laundry (seriously, how the hell do I even own that many clothes?!)…and we can just pretend that there isn’t a pile still on the bed that needs to be folded. Right now it’s assuming the Heather’s cuddle lump position on the opposite side of the bed! 😉 Hmm, what else? Oh wait, how about this….I baked! I made some cookies last Wednesday and I made some cupcake/muffin looking things for my coworker’s birthday yesterday…yeah, that’s what happens when you’re stuck at home with a bum knee. I can’t go to the gym (or even THINK about any complex movements) but I sure can stuff my face with all sorts of treats…oh god, I’m going to be like 20 pounds heavier by next month! :-/ Ok, I’m going to end this before it becomes a novel…besides my fat ass needs to get caught up on some more of your posts! 😉
Meghan says
No drugs; just a type A personality, which is why sometimes I need to schedule relaxing because otherwise I won’t do it at all. I pretty much chilled all afternoon and evening yesterday, and it was lovely. Although it meant my next load of laundry is clean, but still hanging out in the basket.
I don’t understand the laundry situation either. Where does it all come from, and how do people with families actually do it all?
You were baking?! Now that is impressive and definitely gets a head bow from me. I’m sorry to hear about the knee. I know you mentioned it on your blog, but I didn’t realize how serious it was. That stinks.
Heather @ Kiss My Broccoli says
PS, Seriously, that pumpkin cranberry crunch is like the epitome of foodporn…every time I see it, I start having flashbacks to demolishing my little bag you sent me in like TWO sittings…yeah, it was a horrific sight…pumpkin seeds everywhere…down my shirt, up my sleeve, in my hair…you only THINK I’m kidding!
Meghan says
I love that mental image!
Jessie says
Damn girl, your like superwoman. Seriously though, you accomplished a crap load. Way to friggen go 🙂 🙂
Meghan says
Thanks Jessie, although I prefer crapton. 🙂
Laura @ Sprint 2 the Table says
I love lists. And I want one of those bananas. Stat.
Meghan says
I think you need one of the bananas stat. Three ingredients: banana, dark chocolate and walnuts. Doesn’t get any easier than that.
Fran@BCDC says
You are quite accomplished. The cranberry crunch looks wonderful!
