Back for More: Strange But Good

March 29, 2013 by Meghan 47 Comments

I think I have another contender for Laura’s Strange But Good link up.

Strange But Good

I actually made this a couple of weeks ago, but haven’t had a chance to blog about it yet. My silly life keeps interfering with my extracurricular activities. Imagine that.

Before I get right to my Strange But Good offering, I need to explain two things, and what better way than bullet points.

  • I am a morning person. I’m not saying I jump out bed before the alarm goes off (every time), but I do accomplish a shitton of things in the early hours. It’s when I’m the most productive. On weekends, I pretty much get up and just go like a mad woman or the energizer bunny. With Easter nearly upon us, the bunny seems more fitting. I can clean the house, wash clothes, bake muffins, handle food prep, workout, go grocery shopping, write blog posts, and well you name it. I’m a total badass in the morning. With that being said, if you need something from me after 8 p.m., well then it’s probably not going to happen. I’m awake, but barely functioning.
  • I don’t really like beer. I’m sorry, I just don’t. I think it tastes like swill because I, of course, know what swill tastes like; it’s my specialty. I can, however, appreciate a hard cider on a hot summer day or a crisp fall day or perhaps even a sunshiny spring day. Hard cider and me, we’re friends. I’ve also been known to have a glass of white wine on a rare evening, although two is really my limit. Two glasses pretty much ensures I’m sound asleep by 9 p.m. because I know how to rage. One of my favorite alcoholic beverages though would have to be a little bubbly. I like champagne, and the sweeter the better.

Orange, Banana, Pineapple Smoothie

Now that you’re aware of these little nuggets of information, I’m guessing you know where my Strange But Good is going.

Given my preference for the crack of dawn, I’d prefer to have my cocktail in the morning hours, and what better a.m. drink is there than a Mimosa, ignoring the whole Bloody Mary thing, which I’ve never tried, although considering all the fruits and veggies involved, I probably should.

Smoo-Mosa2

Now I know a mimosa all by itself wouldn’t be so strange, so what I am proposing today is a Smoo-Mosa, which is what happens when your breakfast smoothie and champagne collide. What’s not to like? It’s a little bit fruity, a whole lot sweet, all in a fizzy little number. Plus, you have a justification to drink before noon, not that any is needed if you’re responsible about it, emphasis on the word responsible. I’m not trying to create any raging alcoholics here.

Smoo-Mosa

It might not be as crazy as a Beet Juice Mimosa, but I’d have to say it’s still pretty strange. Plus, I figure if I’m going to start my Saturday with a drink, I might as well do it in style, with a Smoo-Mosa. Anyone else want one?

What’s your favorite time of the day to indulge in a cocktail, and what’s your cocktail of choice? Any exciting plans this weekend?

P.S. I’ve got a guest post on Jessie Bear’s blog today. If you feel so inclined, you should check it out. Even if you aren’t feeling it, you should check it out. 🙂

P.P.S. I’m doing another Week In Review link up party on Monday, and I want you to be a part of it. It’s going to be fun; I’ll bring the Smoo-Mosa’s. Think about it, then write about it, then link about it.

Meghan, this looks delicious! What else is in there…looks like a banana and some orange juice? Have you ever tried amaretto and orange juice? Incredible. Make a smoothie out of That! I’m not much of a drinker, but I do the wine thing occasionally. This looks refreshing though. Have a great day!

A banana, some pineapple juice and a couple of clementines.
I’ve never tried amaretto and OJ, but I’m fascinated now. Is that appropriate for morning drinking though? Hmm, I shall have to see.
      Have a great weekend Fran.

Smoo-mosa? Rock on. I’m totally a morning person, but I still tend to save my drinking for the evenings. Maybe I need to change that up. Early AM laundry wouldn’t be nearly so blah of a task if there was a little bubbly involved 😉

Now you’re talking. Vacuuming is a straight up hoot, and did I just type hoot. It’s getting late, and I’m delirious.

I’m into hard cider lately too! No clue why, perhaps the serving size (vs a box of wine). I don’t care for Woodchuck (Woodstock? Wood something) Granny Smith but I’m loving Amber, Pear, Raspberry, Spring, 902, Redd’s, and a whole host of others. I’ve been ‘sperimenting, I suppose.
If I had a Smoo-Mosa I’d probably be toast for the rest of the day. I have energy in the early morning and late at night. It’s a rotten combination.

I’m pretty sure it’s Woodchuck, and I’m digging the Crispin, except those come in some big old bottles which is sometimes more than I really want, but I certainly wouldn’t want it to go bad.
The trick to the morning cocktail is literally to just have one, which really turns out to be a half glass of bubbly so totally manageable.
Early morning and late night energy; that is a rough combo. You should be in Italy where they take mid-day breaks. It’s be perfect for you. And imagine the pizzas. I bet you could hold your own over there though.

My favorite time of the day to enjoy a nice adult beverage is during Happy Hour! I usually choose either a beer or a margarita :).

I am a huge fan of hard cider too! It is so refreshing! My favorite time to enjoy an adult beverage is on a sunny afternoon around 3-5pm on a patio outside with friends when you’re actually supposed to be doing responsible things. 😀 Your smoo-mosa looks awesome!

That is good time for an afternoon cider. I actually really like them mid-day too so long as I’m in a warm sun patch somewhere.

I too am a morning person and have NEVER been a fan of beer–even in my college days/nights (and maybe a few highschool nights….) I could never stomach it…which is how I got my oh so cool nickname, “Zima-chic.” Remember Zima? LOL! Of course now I’ve moved onto much finer beverages…I do love me some red wine on occasion! Oh and you must try a bloody mary–so delicious–well, depending on who makes it. Anyway, your Smoo-Mosa looks yummy!!! HOPPY EASTER!!!!

Zima chick, oh that’s funny and I do remember that stuff…clear beer right. Or really clear malt beverage. Too funny.
Maybe I should try a bloody mary this summer when I get my CSA tomatoes. Now that could be cool. Hoppy Easter to you too.

I was so excited to see your post this week after your teaser! I’m not a morning person at all… but this deliciousness would have me bunny-hopping out of bed. 🙂 You aren’t missing much with the Bloody’s. I can’t stand them. Mimosas > Bloody. It’s even a better name.

    Thanks for linking up!!!

It’s the simple pleasures right, and growing up I used to love Shirley Temples. I always felt so adult sipping my non-alcoholic cocktail, and I always asked for extra cherries. Your weekend sounds great, especially garden shopping. I love anything involving landscaping. Did you get anything good?
