It’s been a hot minute since I’ve talked about lists, and since my love of lists is where the Week In Review concept stems from (and also this lovely lady), I think it’s high time we went there again. It’s pretty obvious, I’m a fan of lists, but I also have a touch of self-diagnosed OCD, and the two combined are a force to be reckoned with.
Ah, now that’s better.
Case in point: the simple, yet perfectly practical wall calendar. I love my wall calendar. It controls, or at the very least, oversees my world. If it exists on the calendar, then it’s a go. If not, you can pretty much forget about it, and now you know why being spontaneous is one of my New Year’s Resolutions. The Hubby will tell me, “I’m going out with the fellas today,” and if I question it, his response (smart man) is “It’s on the calendar.” Touché Hubby.
My calendar isn’t just about birthdays and social outings though; it also doubles as a tracking mechanism for my minutia. When I water the plants, I mark it on the calendar. When I work out, I notate it on the calendar. When I meditate, the same thing, although these marks have dwindled (Note to self: meditate more). I also track a handful of “other” things I don’t want anyone to know about, so I mark these in code. Only I really know what each half circle, weird X or capital M means, and I like it that way.
Enough about me. Let’s get listing (about all the things I accomplished in the last week…weird how it came back to me):
- I finally got on Instagram and promptly lost hours of my life. Come and find me at cleaneatsfastfeets. We can lose hours of time together.
- I went to a Girls Night Garden Party with my mother-in-law. I managed to buy one basket of flowers before moving on to food and food related products (cilantro and dishware). Funny how that played out.
- I spent five hours working in the yard on Saturday, including a heated lawn mowing content with my neighbor to see who’d finish faster. Of course I won, and to be honest, I’m pretty sure he didn’t know we were competing.
- I had a date night with the Hubby to celebrate our eighth anniversary. He bought me flowers and wrote me a dirty limerick. Mad monkey love ensued.
- I wrote and published three blog posts.
- I did hella food prep. Created but not consumed (yet) was a double batch of granola, hard-boiled eggs, and roasted veggies. I also cleaned and readied bundles of kale and spinach.
- I did three fitness classes: Spinning, Mixed Martial Arts and Bootcamp and I went for a run on Saturday, along with copious amounts of yard work.
- I worked a boatload of hours. Sadly my job was emotionally draining last week, which is one of the reasons I stepped up my workouts. Exercise helps my head more than I can say.
- I booked tickets to Belgium to see my favorite little nephew next month and maybe eat a waffle or two. He’s so darn cute; I could just eat him right up, along with a side of waffles.
- I did a Girls Day painting class where you are fed wine and cheese, and then given a paint brush, some paint and blank plates. Picasso, I am not.
- I started composting because recycling just wasn’t cutting it anymore for me, especially when I go through so much produce and the inevitable scraps which come with it. Yes, that is little Oscar in the background, along with my food photography table. He’s a fan of being green.
That about sums up my week, but I want to hear from you, so please link up your list loving and let’s get reviewing.
What did you do in the past week? Have you bought any flowers or fresh herbs yet? Do you enjoy working in the yard?
Note: I am very behind in my blog reading so if you haven’t heard from me in awhile, that’s why. Bear with me and I’ll be back to my raging comment leaving self in no time.

Hahah love that OCD pic…I bet it drives you crazy that it’s not in alphabetical order i.e. CDO ;)! Your Girls Day sounds like such a blast! It actually reminds me of an event I attended a few weeks ago! There was unlimited booze going around and then a corner with blank canvases that guests could paint whatever they felt like- alcohol was paint is a definitely a fun combination…even better with cheese thrown in the mix 😉
Meghan says
You are correct; I would prefer alpha order. All my spices and movie collection are organized alphabetically. My books on the other hand are in order by size. I love the idea of booze and painting on a canvas. The plates and glasses were fun to paint, but a canvas could be so much more exciting.

I have yet to get an instagram, because, as you said, I will lose hours of my life on there. Pinterest is already a nasty habit. No time for another! But, I imagine I will have to get one eventually…
I’m looking to buy some herbs soon. Fresh cilantro just a few steps away sounds like perfection.
I believe that your non-Picasso painting needs to be brought to light and shown to your lovely readers 🙂
Meghan says
I’ve slowed down on Pinterest and now it seems Instagram is where it’s at, but it is highly addicting.
Good luck with the herbs, although I must warn you, cilantro is tough to keep alive. I always struggle and yet I still buy it because I love it so. Rosemary, chives and basil are all easy herbs so I’d start there is I were you.
Who knows, maybe my dishware will show up in a blog photo one day. You’ll definitely be able to tell too.

The A to Z Challenge is OVER!!! I’m all in the Review next week! I even think I’ll start writing it day by day so I won’t have painful catch-up to do next week. I’m excited!!
Meghan says
Yeah, I’m so excited to have you be a part of the Week in Review Fran. I can’t wait to see what you accomplish, and I actually think this will be a great post for you because while your work load is huge and daunting at times, it will make you appreciate each of the small steps you actually took that week. It’s so easy to overlook the things we did and by recapping them, it gives us (or at least me) a sense of accomplishment.
Liz says
Oooh, your nephew is so cute and I can’t wait to see what food pics you blog from your trip!! And composting now? Not a bit surprised.
I can’t wait to get into the yard, though gardening season doesn’t start for us until next month. I’ll probably start my hydro-boxes in my dining room so they will have a jump start and be ready to move out at the first sign of stable warm temps.
I spent my week reading your blog posts, oogling your instagram and trying not to seem like such a stalker 🙂 I also wrapped up the semester, spent some hours playing outside with the children, and made and drank copious amounts of iced tea!
Meghan says
Are you kidding? You can stalk me anytime Liz, and I can’t wait to see all your hydro-boxes. I want Instagram photos of that stuff. And of course a visit because I’d love to see you again.
Stacey Belasic says
Great post, as usual! I finally joined instagram a couple weeks ago too!! I started following you–looking forward to posts that make me drool! 😉
Have a great week!!!
Meghan says
You too Stacey. I’m going follow you right back by the way, and I want to see the meals you make for your man! 😉
Jess @ JessieBear What Will You Wear says
Your week sounds awesome. Happy anniversary with the hubs! And omg I know what you mean about the calendar, I have one too and I have tons of squiggly symbols that only I know what they mean. Also, I laughed out loud at that line about instagram… goodbye life!
Meghan says
I’m so glad someone else has a secret calendar code. I’m either not crazy or at least not alone with my crazy. 😉
Sarah Pie says
Going to have to look you up on Instagram (it’s my favorite way to lose time). I love your calendar, mine also is filled with notes/scribbles/code (mostly in different color highlighters and pens…it’s an OCD rainbow).
Were in the process of moving so this is the first time in years we haven’t planted our garden… I’m hoping to get some herbs going in a pot 🙂
Meghan says
Yes definitely find me on Instagram if you haven’t already.
I love the use of different colors too; OCD rainbows are a beautiful thing.
kirsten@FarmFreshFeasts says
For the record, the official Girl’s Day is March 3rd. Try and squeeze it onto your calendar for next year.
Drink a peach, cherry or raspberry Kriek for me. In Belgium. I’m craving one. The mayo on fries I can live without. Used to live up in that neck of Europe. Memories.
Please let me know how your hinges hold on that kick ass composting bin. At my kids’ elementary school, well, the one in Virginia at least, we had a rotating one and I don’t know if it was under-12 operator error or bad design but the hinges did not last long. For now I rely on offspring to turn my compost for me, and the worms in the worm bin. Really, I prefer the work ethic of the worms. They just want to get started and be left alone, and without any sort of supervision they get the job done. The offspring, not so much.
(drum roll please)
My Map My Walk stats?
13 workouts
10 routes
29.3 total miles, baby
8.4 hours
like a Triscuit worth of calories burned, not that I care.
Have a good week.
Meghan says
There’s really an official girls day. Wow and for you, I will drink a peach, cherry and raspberry Kriek. Why not right?!
I’ll let you know about the hinges, although there’s a pin in this composter which when you remove it, allows you to rotate the whole thing. I added some yard waste this weekend so I’m pretty sure an earthworm or two managed to make it’s way into the mix. I hope that’s ok.
You walked a marathon so that’s a heck of a lot more than a triscuit, not that I care either. About the triscuit. Your miles on the other hand, I am super impressed with.
caren says
I gardened as well this wknd. Well…. started to.
Congrats on your anniversary girl!
XO
Meghan says
Yeah, the gardening is an ongoing project which tends to last all summer long. Yard work too.
Thanks for linking love!
Abby says
As someone who HAS been diagnosed with OCD, I say “Welcome to the club!” It’s totally BYOL though, as Lysol isn’t cheap.
With that said, I don’t Instagram, but I DO love working out in the yard. I have a garden every year that I covet, seeing as Michigan is under snow for half of the year. And thanks to the OCD, I’m a manic weed puller-outer. It’s really relaxing for me to play in the dirt 😉
Meghan says
Alright this is getting a wee but creepy. I love to pull weeds for the very same reason; it seems to be the only time my mind slows down, and that yard work this past weekend; about 3 hours of it was literally pulling weeds one at a time.
Alex @ Brain, Body, Because says
Love this! I keep meaning to link up, but I forget. I should put it in my calendar (I’m totally not making fun of you! I actually have a list/calendar of posts that I want to write.)
The cilantro looks SO good! Makes me think of amazing Mexican and Thai food!
Meghan says
I have a list of those posts too (the best laid plans….), and I would love for you to link up. This is one of my favorite posts to do because it makes me feel all accomplished and who doesn’t like that.
I heart cilantro.
Brittany says
Mad monkey love yahoo!! Oh man..Instagram is the death of my days. I spend too much time on there, it’s pretty embarrassing. Happy Anniversary to you and the hubby bubby! Great week you had my friend!
Meghan says
Thanks Brittany. Here’s to mad monkey love.
Allie says
Happy eighth-i-versary! I JUST bought a calendar–it arrived yesterday. I am beyond excited to start filling it in. It’s like a list…but in squares!
Meghan says
I never thought of it like that, but you are exactly right. A list in squares; no wonder they are so damn appealing. I can’t wait to see what you put in yours.
Allie says
Oooh, I’ll have to share a picture or two on the blog–It’s a pretty spectacular calendar to begin with, as it may or may not feature chickens…
Meghan says
Yes, yes please.
Jessie says
okay so i know belgium is no where near kuwait, but i mean since your already traveling international, i suggest you make a detour here. Thanks, glad your game 🙂
Meghan says
Why not: I’m already halfway there. 😉
Sara says
how are you finding spinning? I hated it the first 6 times and now I love it!
Meghan says
For the most part, I adore spinning. In fact one of my New Year’s Resolutions was to get certified as an instructor because then I get to spin, yell at people (nicely of course) and pick the music which is an all around win in my book. I’ve lost a little passion as of late, but I’m hoping to rekindle the flame.
Laura @ Sprint 2 the Table says
that OCD thing just made me spew my water. i’m not type a… nooooo… LOL!
Meghan says
It might be ultra organizing coupled with a type A personality….not that there’s anything wrong with that.
Sarah @ The Smart Kitchen says
I’m kind of in love with that awkward carrot.
And the dish you bought at the garden party.
Your lawn mowing experience reminds me of every time I run on the track at the gym and someone speeds by me, and I think “Yeah, but can you maintain that pace…sucker?” And I give myself a mental high-five when I see them exit the track before me.
Meghan says
Next time, you should pretend to trip and knock them with your hip or something….or not really because that’s be mean. Yeah, it’s probably best to keep the competition in your head…sucker.
I have a thing for dishware, impulse purchases and hairy carrots. They’re all hairy and cute and what not.
Heather @ Kiss My Broccoli says
Omg, to sit and think that somebody actually had to arrange those soup letters like that is hilarious/ridiculous! Can I have time like that? And also, I feel I should note that anyone with “true” OCD knows that it should really be CDO…alphabetical of course! 😉
And yep, I’m the total loser that is one whole week behind in your blog posts…EVEN though I actually linked up to this post! I swear I have NO idea where my time went this week! It’s sad. I just opened my reader and have 236 unread blog posts…ouch!
Love that serving bowl! And yay for painting parties! I went once and actually came out with a pretty neat looking piece…though only because it was of the abstract variety. 😉 Funniest thing from the night though…this lady accidentally dipped her paintbrush into another lady’s glass of wine!! And she wasn’t even drunk! The whole place was in hysterics!
Meghan says
Ya know, I would prefer it be in alpha order, like my movie collection and my spices, and pretty much everything possible.
No worries about being behind, although 236 is an intimidating number….you need to drop some people, so long as it isn’e me, m’kay.
That is funny. Did anyone attempt to drink the wine?
