An Ode to Exercise

March 4, 2015 by Meghan 31 Comments

My Dearest Exercise,

It’s been far too long since I last felt your warm embrace, and to be completely vulnerable and honest, I’m missing you hardcore right now. In fact, ♫ I can’t get you outta my head. Boy, your love is all I think about. La, la, la. La, la, la, la, la, la, la, la. ♫ The same goes for that Kylie Minogue song. Once that little ditty is in there, it’s firmly entrenched. You’re welcome.

Enough with Kylie, back to you my paramour and our sweet, salty, sweaty sessions.

Body Pump Class

My heart is troubled. I can no longer remember the last time we were together, although chances are I posted it on my Instagram and Facebook account because when you and I are an item, I like the world to know. It’s a sign of my never-ending love for you and has nothing to do with vanity (cough, lies and deceit, cough).

I’m not sure what the latest driving wedge in our relationship was, and I don’t even care anymore. When we last parted ways, we were in a good place. We had that long talk and re-commitment ceremony and then you left me left me high and dry. I’m willing to overlook it though because I want you back in my life, no matter the cost. Even if it means I have to share you with others.

Simply stated, I miss you.

I miss the way I sleep after a rough and tumble session.

I miss the way you challenge me, mostly because I always come out on top. We can forget the whole Zumba incident from a couple of weeks ago.

I miss the jolt of confidence you give me and the purpose you bring me.

I miss #vanillagorilla.

Vanilla Gorilla Meg Collage

I miss my feet pounding the pavement, jumping on boxes and even burpees. I never claimed to be rational.

I miss our midday rendezvous because life is not the same without a little Afternoon Delight.

I miss our awkward moments long after the workout is done, when I get stuck in my sports bra.

I miss the strength you give me and your fun-loving and endorphin inducing high.

The bottom line is I miss you and ♫ the way you make me feel. You really turn me on. You knock me off of my feet. My lonely days are gone. ♫

It’s also possible I’ve been watching too much American Idol.

Until we meet again My Love,

Meghan

Burpee is one of the worst words ever.

Random fitness Q: Have you ever done the Christmas Story 5k? A sort-of relative did that race and it looked fun, but maybe for a Cleveland native such as yourself it’s too touristy?? I’d like your thoughts.

I have not done the Christmas Story Run but I have looked into it before. I did go see the house last winter and that was kind of cool, although I suspect the run would be better. You’re supposed to get ovaltine when you’re done. 🙂

You’re the best 🙂 I’ve been getting random songs in my head as I begin each post lately and I can’t stop. Kylie’s in there for today, thanks for that.

You can have the 6 miles I ran on the gym treadmill this morning, I didn’t care for them much 🙂

I know exactly how you feel. It’s been almost 3 weeks since my last workout bf (before flu) and I was starting to show withdrawal symptoms. Not physically of course but mentally. And you realize something’s off when you start to miss burpees 😛

Aaaand Kylie Minogue will be in my head alll day… I spent a year getting that song out of my head sr yr in high school (or was it freshman year of college?) probably both because that song is so darn catchy. And yo I sympathize — exercise is a player — he just loves the game — we break up and get back together all the time. it’s messed up.

The last two weeks I’ve been doing ALL THE WALKING and then whatever else I feel like. This tends to happen when I get towards the end of half marathon training, the time I should probably be buckling down instead. I like to think the first two months building up my cardio will be enough, and then walking all the miles and spinning all the bikes will carry me. Long story short my exercise is WHATEVER I PLEASE AND I LOVE IT. With that said, let’s hangout and run together.

I am feeling the same way right now. First work got in the way. Then the weather. And now I have a cold. I really miss yoga, but probably shouldn’t go to class until my head stops feeling like it’s floating and I can breathe without my mouth open.

Not thinking about Kylie. Not thinking about Kylie. Not thinking about Kylie. La la la la la la la la la …. Okay, I think I’m good.

I’ve really been missing my workouts this past week, too. I was finally starting to cozy up to running and then my back had to go apesh*t on me and I had to stop because it didn’t appreciate the jostling. And let’s not even talk about the fact that I couldn’t go snowboarding the last time I was in the mountains… Or the fact that it’ll probably be over a month before I can go again. Not thinking about it. Nope.

Will you please direct me to the definition of vanilla gorilla, because it seems vaguely racist to me and if it isn’t I think I should use that term at times and if it is I still should probably use it sometime. =)

Gasp. It better not be racist because I am not down with that shit.

Here’s my favorite definition: “1. An exotic, well proportioned, powerfully built, human-like creature; often mistaken as a man. No known proof of where the “vanilla gorilla” originated from currently exists. Only one “vanilla gorilla” has been sighted.” Of course you can find a whole bunch more here: http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Vanilla+Gorilla

I’m sorry to hear your LTR with exercise has taken a brief hiatus. I’m sure you guys will be back at it in no time.

I’m going on a solid month and a half of hitting the gym regularly and feelin’ the burn. I like to lift weights in the middle of the day when no one is there. It’s my zen time. And since you were asking about my summer bucket list, a race is on it! Either a 5 or 10k, but I’ve never done anything remotely as disciplined as train for a race before so I’m giving it a shot.

And in case you’re wondering, I’ll be rehydrating with mimosa. Preferably in Cleveland.

I hit that shit today. Smack it, flip it, rub it down, oh no…..

A solid month and a half! Now that is awesome. Good for you. #beastmode.

Rehydration is key, especially your city of choice. Cleveland is calling….

I like burpees, especially the ones which overlook the whole pushup part. The drop to the ground and jump back up kind of deal is right up my alley.

I’m still marveling over your doing yet another marathon. You’re a machine.
