I find introductions to be kind of redundant for these Currently posts. Considering I’m about to ramble for paragraphs on end, it doesn’t make much sense to get carried away here. On that note, I say β« Let’s get it started. And the bass keeps runnin’, runnin’. β« Fun fact: that was the first song played at our wedding.
And away we go.
Current Book: Last night I finally finished The Wise Man’s Fear by Patrick Rothfuss, the second of three books in The Kingkiller Chronicles. It was fantastic, but with no release date set for the third book, I am railing against the book gods. I need to know what happens next.
Current Music: since watching the documentary Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck, I keep hearing Nirvana everywhere. I don’t mind, but man those lyrics are more than a little disturbing after the fact.
Current Non-Guilty Pleasure: this little guy sleeping in my lap, while I write this post.
Current Guilty Pleasure: I got carried away at the farmers market on Saturday. The Hubby just shook his head when he saw my, in his opinion, excessive purchases. Mark my words, he will thank me when we’re munching on sweet corn and zucchini pancakes in the dead of winter.
Current Drink: it’s summer and I’m drinking all the cocktails. All day, every day. Alright fine, it’s more like vacation and weekends. No shame in my game.
Current Food: loads and loads of fruits and veggies. Our CSA game is going strong, and I’m owning those green beans. (Oh hi there, shameless self plug. Nice to see you.)
Current Obsession: whether I’m tossing them myself or going out to eat, I’m on a strong and solid salad bender. In fact, it’s so prominent, I’m thinking a post devoted solely to salads is in order.
Current Confession: the Hubby and I went on a little picnic in the Metroparks, and despite the ten times I peed before leaving the house, I had to go bad when we got there, which is completely typical for me. So, I went in the woods, and then I rinsed my flip flopped foot in the nearby stream because hello, splatter.
Current Excitement: the garlic festival is coming. The garlic festival is coming. I can hardly contain my excitement.
Current Wish List: I wish I was independently wealthy. Don’t we all?
Current Bane of Existence: the job that pays my bills is kicking my non-ass ass ,which is making me more than a little sad. Le sigh.
Current Blessing: having great friends here and across the globe, who are incredibly supportive, especially when I whine…or wine.
Current Indulgence: summertime gelato.
Current Epiphany: running in the middle of the day or late morning isn’t the smartest idea when it’s eighty degrees out and humid. Oy vey.
Current Needs: my mojo back at the office.
Current Triumphs: I’ve been hitting it at the gym pretty regularly since June, which helps me manage my sanity. It probably does something for my jiggly bits too. I’m not complaining.
Current Thankfulness: summer sunsets at Edgewater Live.
Current Fear: spiders. While there’s nothing new about that, a spider did force me to jump out of my kayak in the middle of Lake Erie last month, causing my entire family, who were watching from the shore to worry because they thought I’d capsized and was stuck. The Hubby even swam out to save me. My hero.
Current Laughs: brother sister shenanigans on our family vacation in July. The best part is I deliberately picked the photo where he was about to fall and I was standing strong. She who creates the collage gets to have all the fun. Cackle, cackle.
Current Links: How to make Corn Stock using just the leftover cobs. I love making something out of nothing.
Current Mood: I have mixed emotions. It’s Monday which means back to the grind, but also a fresh start for the week. Here’s to keeping my head up and hitting it hard.
Your turn. Whatβs Currently going on in your world? Current book? Current obsession? Current confession? If you’ve been married, what was the first song played at your wedding?

Id there’s such a thing as farmers market porn, that would be it! You make it look too good! Love the pictures of you and your brother, and I get that making your sibling look a little bit dumb is one of the greatest pleasures in life. At least according to my kids π

The mojito looks so good…Monday Morning Mojitos can be a thing, right? I was guzzling Croatian wine and Dutch beer on vacation so I’m trying to get back into um, a more balanced routine of coffee and water. Speaking of getting back into a routine, I’ve been loving pigging out on veggies since returning. On the menu tonight: a certain Vegetarian Taco Salad!
Meghan says
We should make Monday morning Mojitos a thing. Cheers.

YES i love your first wedding song. ours was ‘a little less conversation’ by Elvis aka the King. https://youtu.be/gvlxRvhCB_A
we didn’t have a theme going on, but i did have our officiant dress up in an Elvis costume and announce us. it was very confusing and hilarious IMO.
sorry about your job stuff, i’ve been there sister.. but clearly, as shown by that awesome strong pose next to your bro, you’ll get through it and come out shiny, sparkly, and with some badass corn stock! whoopwhoop!
my biggest confession is that now after not eating meat for a few weeks, i’m starting to dream a little bit about it… i’m just going to simmer down and let myself and by body figure it out. for now, i’ve been embracing foods based on texture and that rules out all meats/seafood because of the required chewing. i know i’m not that desperate because when my running friend suggested i blend up some steak and make soup, i said “fuck no that’s disgusting” and managed to offend her a little. i had to apologize and blame the meds… then had a massive soul search and realized that she’s a hunter, like literally, and i’m totally admitting that i can’t personally kill any animal and eat it because i’m massively squeamish about blood. i didn’t do very well in culinary school when we had to butcher stuff AT ALL… i digress. i’m off the meds by the way in case i’m sounding cray. that’s just my usual cray π
but yeah, maybe i had a dream a two about some fatty brisket but that doesn’t mean i’m going to make a friggin meat smoothie. barf. LOL
however i did just steam some veggies and managed to tolerate some cheese on top, so that was helpful. hooray.
happy monday, thank you for the smiles and just remember: YOU ROCK!

I can’t even believe you used tolerate and cheese in the same sentence. Gasp. π
A meat smoothie does sound particularly disgusting. Shudder. Also, not that it’ll help, I’ve been craving a BLT pretty strongly. As such, I intend to make it happen. Hopefully soon. π

So many things to comment on!
1. Sleeping cats are the best while writing. Especially in my cold basement.
2. I definitely tend to run when it’s way too hot out…even if I had the opportunity to go in the morning. This makes one schweaty mess.
3. Peeing in the woods is terrible and awesome at the same time. I always feel like a badass, but it’s still gross ha!

Late 2016 or early 2017 is the tentative release date for Doors of Stone, which is the working title for the 3rd book. I don’t even want to talk about it. I read the second when it was released in 2011, so I’ve been waiting 4+ years on this damn book already. NOT BITTER. And my mind is still boggling over all that zucchini. I have a hard time figuring out what to do with just ONE, and usually end up making pancakes and loaves and what not. But 15? Eeps. I probably wouldn’t finish that in 2 years.

So I didn’t realize it until I put the corn stock away yesterday morning, but my basement freezer is getting quite full. I added 6 cups of grilled corn and 20 cups of shredded zucchini this weekend, plus 10 cups of corn stock. Not too shabby for $20 at the market.
Thanks for your support sunshine. It means the world to me, and I LOVE your cookbook title. I took a picture of our text chat and look at it often.
