Get your pads and pens ready because it’s time for the Week In Review.
The Week In Review is a list, in its purest form, not of the things you still need to do, but of all the things you have done in the last seven days. It’s an achievement list, an ode to yourself, a celebration of sorts, and a virtual pat on the back or smack on the ass. Wink, wink, nudge, nudge.
Need more details? Head here.
♫ You can do it, put your list into it. ♫
Let’s get listing:
Despite my whole turning a corner post last week, Ave and I had a few shaky days, where we both had minor (alright fine, major) meltdowns. Thankfully, my family was staying with us at the time, and they helped us get through it.
I sucked crazy amounts of long stretchy boogers out of Ave’s nose. I’m not gonna lie, it was disgusting, but it made a huge impact on her ability to eat and sleep, meaning I’d do it again in heartbeat.
As a result of getting Ave’s sinuses situated and the Hubby tackling her middle of the night feeding, I managed to get six almost totally uninterrupted hours of sleep on Friday night and another five on Saturday. It was sweet, sweet bliss; almost better than mad monkey loving, which speaks volumes to my level of fatigue.
I went for a run on Saturday morning with my Da (yes, it’s deliberately misspelled because he’s too cool for the last d). It was the first time I got my exercise on this year, and it felt amazing to kick my feet and pound some pavement. Also, I run about as fast as a tortoise so pounding pavement might be a stretch.
In boring real lifedom, I dusted and vacuumed the first floor, did ridiculous amounts of laundry, unloaded the dishwasher more times than seems humanly possible and balanced our bazillion checkbooks.
On Sunday, we took Ave on her first road trip to see the Wolcott Lilac Gardens. It was a learning experience. For example, we realized we need two spare sets of clothes in the diaper bag at all times for exactly the reason you think. Blowout city. The flowers were pretty though.
I penned more thank you cards, which means the gifts just keep on coming. I can’t express how touched I am, in a non-naughty type way of course, by all the support. It’s amazing and heart warming to know I have friends all over the globe.
I managed to write and publish a Currently post. While it wasn’t my most witty work of art, it felt damn good to get back into the game. It also feels good to be a gangsta. Just sayin’.
I hit up the weekly lactation support meeting. Boobies, boobies everywhere. I completely understand women who whip it out in public now. Bring on the breasteses.
Speaking of food (breastmilk totally counts as food), I took pictures of my Saturday eats in the hopes of penning a future What I Ate Wednesday post. Cross your phalanges for me.
I also made an unusual pizza, packed with pesto, Brussels Sprouts and shredded zucchini. I’ll share the recipe as soon as I figure out what to name it. Suggestions welcome.
I also whipped up a classic sandwich for dinner one night: the Avocado Cheese Panini.
On that glorious sandwich porn note…
It’s your turn. I want to hear from you. Link up and get yo’ list on.
What are three things you accomplished in the last week? Any road trip tips for a newborn. We’ve got two upcoming travel adventures in the coming weeks.

I think you had a great week! that pizza looks delicious! I never thought I would be that mom who whipped it out in public but I was totally that mom. I mean, I was always covered but I nursed on demand and a lot of the time, that was when I was out lol. the diner, the park, any restaurant, in my car, wherever!

We took Diana on way too many trips in her first 6 months! Have tons of clothes, for yourself too available and remember to bring a breast pump (don’t rust hubby to pack it lol) and lower any and all expectations for the trips! Sounds bad but I enjoy myself more that way!
my friends and I have made our share of jokes about the nose frida but it works better than anything. And go you for sleeping and running! And the pizza, and cleaning. Wow you are on your game!

What a smart idea… a backup outfit for me too. You’re right I’ve already gotten pooped and peed on so it only makes sense. Also I never thought to bring the breast pump. It’s going on the list now though. My expectations for outings is to survive and to be a little less anxious about the whole thing.

You’re supermom in my book! I’d name the pizza ‘Green Goddess Pizza’.
Meghan says
Aw thanks Krista. I think some days I’m super mom and other days I’m spent mom. 🙂 It all evens out though and since we’re all still alive and healthy, I feel good about that.

Ohhh you are starting to get little bits of you back – a run, some sleep and getting back into the kitchen! This must feel wonderful! Sorry about the surprise blowout on your road trip, but those lilacs look amazing. Hopefully you were able to enjoy the sites regardless of the little mishap.

That’s exactly it…I feel as if I’m getting little bits of myself back. It’s like surviving a war and coming out the other side.
Lilacs are some of my favorite flowers. I love how pretty and fragrant they are.

Oh the joys! It’s like I’m seeing the light at the end and it’s so close. Sounds like you had a marvelous week overall! That’s all so much more than I’d expect at this time so I’m very happy for you and excited for myself. My expectations are low so leaving the house would have me snapping my fingers like a gangstah. Or whatever they do.
I can’t believe it’s Monday. I’ve spent the last 24 hours caring for a sick dog and and about to go to the vet, so I didn’t prepare a WIR. However I still might join the party, just a tad bit late.
Congrats on a sparkly week!!

I’m not the greatest with road trips as the last one I took this past weekend I was a sleep deprived sunburned crazy person. Maybe a book on tape would keep the little girl relaxed and quite. It works for me hahaha
Do you plan to hold her? Wait, is that legal? Never mind, dont listen to me 😛

Heather says
Hooray for getting out and getting some much needed rest!
We didn’t get out very often when our kiddos were really small. It always felt like such an ordeal with all of the stuff you have to schlep around, but I wish we had done it more often. Oh, hindsight. Also… it took me forever to figure out that if you have to change your baby in the car – do it in the trunk. There is more room to lay them down and it’s flat rather than attempting to do it on a car seat which is sloped. I blame my sleep deprived brain for not figuring that out sooner. Ha ha. 😉

When it was all said and done, I told the Hubby I understand why new parents don’t leave the house. I was so stressed and anxious the entire time. I figure I just need to keep getting back out there though so it gets easier and more manageable each time. At least that’s what I’m hoping happens. 🙂
We were planning on using the trunk, except it was so damn cold yesterday. What a mess.

Ohhhhhh boy, I’m so glad you were able to get some sleep. It’s hard enough dealing with newborn crying and pooping and all that stuff but doing it on top of zero sleep is actual crazy-making. Going outside for a run must have felt amazing. That fresh air is medicinal!

Confession: I only barely looked into the booger sucker when you told me about it, and I had no idea it was MANUAL. You mean… you actually have to… Okay. Totally worth it if it means getting some sleep, which I’m totally lacking on today thanks to body deciding to randomly wake me up at 3am. Pray for good vibes from the caffeine gods. I’m already yawning.

Kirsten says
Meghan,
After seeing a Far Side strip about a cow with a cover, I couldn’t in good conscience bother with one myself. I just whipped it out–of course I had a bunch of shirts that stopped at my waist and it was too easy to lift up to BF, which helped a lot.
After spending a few days preparing for and giving my local eating talk, I stopped eating normally on Friday, spent the weekend on clear liquids, and did my pre-colonoscopy clean out last night. As a result, I was NOT in the mood to blog about food. At all.
So I’m linking up, for a change, as I actually have a post that’s germane to your weekly gig.
Thanks!

Miss Polkadot says
Sometimes I feel I should just give you my sister’s contact to answer all your new mum questions because that might really help since you’re/have been in similar situations. She felt so insecure that first month and – while definitely not perfect now – has mastered quite a few problems including road trips, breastfeeding in public and the whole diaper-free topic.
Also, breastmilk is totally food. My sister keeps making jokes when the little one sees her eating something telling him that mmmmh the brownies she’s eating right now will be in for him next time she’s feeding [which at the same time means she feels bad for eating anything garlicky or the likes]. No, she’s not as crazy as it sounds though I can’t deny we’re an easy-going fun bunch ;).
About that pizza [and please note my creativity is lacking as work got me like *insert cool-kid-that-I’m-not emoticon parade*]: How about “Get yo’ Greens in Veggie Pizza”? Whatever the name I want a slice. Or two.

I’ve had two recently at a nearby restaurant that I think you might like- one with marinara, roasted cauliflower, fresh mozzarella, spinach, and golden raisins. The other with garlic, cream, ricotta, sliced apple, and a gorgonzola sauce. I added arugula for good measure. Please let me know if you’d like a pizza date. 😀
