Get your pads and pens ready because it’s time for the Week In Review.
The Week In Review is a list, in its purest form, not of the things you still need to do, but of all the things you have done in the last seven days. It’s an achievement list, an ode to yourself, a celebration of sorts, and a virtual pat on the back or smack on the ass. Wink, wink, nudge, nudge.

♫ You can do it, put your list into it. ♫
Let’s get listing:
Ave and I had a play date with some friends where she got to test drive new wheels. She was most definitely a fan; we may need to invest in something similar.
I published two blog posts, including a giveaway for a $100 Swanson Health Products shopping spree which is still ongoing. Enter here to win.
As per holiday tradition, the babe and I watched bits of pieces of The Sound of Music.
I designed and ordered my new planner for 2017. Nothing like waiting until the last minute. I’m super stoked for it to arrive.
The Hubby and I finished season one of The Wire, a year after we started it. What can I say? We’ve had our hands full lately.
I took myself out to Panera for a solo lunch date. It was magical and filled with all of my favorite carbs.
On Thursday afternoon, Ave and I visited grandma and grandpa, and I was able to put a nice little dent in my current book while my in-laws hung with the tiny human.
I sent out the rest of the holiday cards and wrapped the last of the presents.
The whole family drove to Buffalo on Friday night and celebrated Christmas with my family on Saturday before heading back to Cleveland that same night. It was a whirlwind twenty-four trip and totally worth it. The food was fabulous, the generosity overwhelming and the company amazing.
On Sunday morning, we had a lovely Christmas breakfast in our own home complete with mimosas and supplied entirely by my in-laws.
Afterward, we skyped with the rest of the family before the Hubby headed off to work.
I spent Christmas evening chilling with Ave and testing out her new toys. She had milk for dinner, I ate chocolate and then we both headed to bed extra early.
It’s your turn. I want to hear from you. Link up and get yo’ list on.
What are three things you accomplished in the last week, big or small?

Meghan,
I loved reading all your accomplishments! Well done with the whirlwind and especially waking up in your own home on Christmas morning. We did NOT start that tradition until my kids were in middle school and I regret those crazy years of trying to ‘do it all’ in someone else’s space. That the ‘someone else’ was my in-laws didn’t help.
We also had a whirlwind trip. On Wednesday morning as I was working out, my spouse suggested we drive up to his mom’s & back again on Christmas eve. Now, Christmas eve is my jam, so the thought of being gone all damn day and then having to produce a smorgasbord at the end of it did not appeal. We negotiated, as all good married couples do, and ended up going up to visit on Friday and coming back after lunch on Saturday. I got back in time to pick up my folks from church, and we served them dessert (my Scandinavian fruit soup & lefse + cookies) before returning them to their new home. We did our Christmas eve smorgasbord as lunch on Christmas day instead.
I also prepared a Christmas eve brunch at my in-law’s, and for good measure pasties for dinner 90 minutes after we arrived, so you can bet that after my spouse’s brilliant idea Wednesday morning I was a whirlwind of cooking and baking.
I didn’t do it alone–I mixed up 4 types of cookies and then dispatched my girl to bake them all for me.
I hauled my 86 yr old mom over to make lefse so I could record her Live on IG. She’s still got the patter down from when she made lefse during a FolkLife Festival on the National Mall in DC.
I worked at the restaurant and did a post with the Ohio Pork Council–that’s got a giveaway for a KitchenAid stand mixer + sausage attachment, so do be sure to enter. The giveaway ends next week–you can find it below in my Sweet Sausage Bread post!
Finally, I’m really pleased with myself that I worked out 3x and wrote a session of Morning Pages.

Holy Baking Batman. Spouses do tend to throw curve balls when it comes to entertaining. I remember mine would always want to do a cookout with burgers and potato chips. Now I love potato chips as much as the next person, but a solid side dish they do not make, especially when I’m not too keen on the burgers. 🙂
Happy Holidays. I loved seeing your mom in her element.

Many things here are making me very happy. You still got in Sound of Music. You got out for a solo lunch date… amazing. There was still your glorious bowl of beautiful fruit on your brunch table. And… you had an early night of sleep. I’m going to say that may be the best Christmas present a girl could have asked for? Oh and congrats to you and the hub for finishing The Wire. It’s never too late.
So glad you had a lovely week and happy belated Christmas. Meg!
Meghan says
I think the best gift of all is Ave is sleeping through the night again. She’s gone the last eight nights running….woot, woot. Spending time with family was the second best gift. 🙂

Confession: I don’t think I’ve ever watched Sound of Music in its entirety, but I do know some of the songs 😛 And I’m glad to see that you had a great Christmas with lots of family and good food. Ours was pretty darn good over here, even though it included far too many late nights that I now need to recover from. I hope your planner comes soon 🙂

Late nights are fantastic so long as you have the time and ability to recover. I miss sleeping in, so I tend to go to bed early now.
Happy holidays sunshine!

I’ve never seen a second of the Sound of Music. Though, I think we’ve been through this before. Your solo lunch date sounds divine. I think I need to make a fake grocery trip and crash at my favourite little diner instead. Nobody will ever know! As long as I pick up a few things like milk and bread, and then I can just say the lines were really long. CHRISTMAS IS ALMOST OVER. I CANNOT WAIT. Anyway, I’m glad you guys had a good Christmas. You deserve it, my friend.

Solo dates are wonderful. You definitely need to go on one, even if it’s under the grocery store ruse.
Hang in there; you’re almost done.

Ave has such a big, beautiful smile. Sounds like a busy, busy Christmas week; glad you got to spend time with a family and read a bit. Moments to read are hard enough to come by; can’t imagine trying to get book time in with a baby in the house all the time. I associate watching The Sound of Music with Christmastime too, although I’ve never been quite sure why.

My mom and I would watch The Sound of Music every year around Christmas. It was our thing, and I’m hoping to make it Ave’s thing too.
It was a super busy week, but worth every crazy second.

That sounds like a lovely holiday! Especially breakfast and mimosas you didn’t even have to work for! And the carb-fest. I LOVE their sourdough bread soaked in the tomato soup. Simple pleasures! Mmmmm… carbs…

I love that you had a solo lunch! I know some folks feel self conscious dining alone, but I feel deliciously pampered when I can just sit and gather my thoughts over Paneras warm soup bowls! Being happily married and a retired joined at the hip couple, I too need some time to myself without anyone looking for me to see what I’m up to! Love the thought, need some privacy even if it is in public! It’d be great if you could pull that off weekly!
This is the first time I’ve ever let go of the reigns and not done the hosting for all of my children and grandchildren for both Christmas Eve dinner, and a late Christmas Day brunch. Because of surgery that I am finally feeling better from, I let my Daughter take on both. It’s not easy to relinquish all my recipes, my house, and ways of doing things! On the other hand, she was very happy to have me bring a few of my speciality cookies that are family treasures since she’s not fond of baking.
What I realized, is that it’s not the perfection of doing things my way for over 40 years that matters at all! My daughter cooked a completely different meal, feeling she wasn’t going to compete with mine. Actually a smart move! And I am not a critical person. Ever, lol! We had such a wonderful time, with family and kids, in a completely different environment, None of our old family traditions even happened aside from Cookies, but it didn’t matter. It’s being surrounded by those love, being together, not the place, not the food, not even every tradition needs to be in place! It really woke me up this up. Next year I am not going to put so much pressure on myself to get it all done! My gosh, 40 years of adding a tradition here and there and suddenly (or 40 years isn’t suddenly?) you have so much to do that you can’t enjoy your time! Having not hosted, I was so relaxed, I actually got to play with the kiddos and chat with my children. I’m already thinking of a Christmas Eve dinner pot-luck style next year.
Meghan says
I used to feel self conscious dining alone but not anymore. I’m so happy to get some quiet time and space, it’s a welcome change. I’m fortunate in that my in-laws come over at least once a week to hang out with Ave for a couple of hours. As such, I’ve been trying to really get away so they can get some time with the tiny human and I can get a moment for myself. It’s a win-win all around.
At the end of the day, it’s always about the people, more so than the food. I’m glad you were able to relax and really enjoy yourself. Perhaps you’ve started a new tradition. 🙂 Happy Holidays!

I haven’t seen your husband, so part of this may be off, but I swear to God, that child is 110% YOU. She carries herself like you, she smiles like you. She has your spirit dominant, for sure. Sweet baby.

Aw thanks Linds. I appreciate that. She’s got my husband’s chin. A little butt cleft right down the middle. 🙂

Joy to the world, the hills are alive!!! with the sound of mooooooooooooozik. I love singing songs from that movie to Lulu. Thankfully she tolerates the sound of my voice. i used to sing those songs to her when she was just born, now I sing a wide variety but still love those songs, and the movie. I can’t wait to share that movie with her soon.
So happy you and the mini Me had a lovely holiday weekend. Ave looks so cute and healthy and pink! Her smile is absolutely delightful. I love her big plush caterpillar toy. Everything you did sounds delightful, and the Christmas breakfast mimosas at your place would have sent me to paradise!
It certainly felt like a marathon of activities over here in our world, and by Sunday evening I was pretty darn knackered. Since the hubb’s and I have been sick, we weren’t exactly the lives of the party scene but Lulu had a blast and danced, and tasted lots of new things. The high chair is my favorite gift, hands down. It’s like her throne, her food throne. I love it.
We’ve officially survived 6 months and I couldn’t be more grateful or emotional, lol.
Hope you receive the box of goodies we sent you, Lulu helped 🙂 xx

I think every morning of motherhood should start with mimosas. 🙂
High chairs are awesome. Ave is a little champ in hers. They are also the dirtiest things ever and about as close to the seventh layer of hell as one can get without singeing themselves. Still a necessary evil. You’re gonna love it.
Miss Polkadot says
Nobody can stop me from saying it: Ave is so darn cute. Getting cuter by the week.
The whirlwind trip and many hours on the road aside it sounds like you had a truly marvelous Christmas. Ave’s first – exciting!
Those occasional solo lunch dates you take yourself on every now and then seem like a great idea – way to stay sane as a mum and make yourself a priority every once in a while. Every mum should treat herself every once in a while.
On a final note I have planner envy seeing yours [every week, that is]. I don’t even have a regular cheapo one because I feel I don’t really -need- one for my daily life but still … envy. They look so fancy and … ah.

Sounds like such a fantastic Christmas! I love your tradition of watching The Sound of Music – such a great movie! I saw a play of it a few years ago, but the actress playing Maria just couldn’t compare to Julie Andrews.
This holiday season was a hectic one over here and I feel like I haven’t even had a chance to rest yet – hopefully that’s what tomorrow will be for!
Meghan says
I’m not sure anyone can compare to Juli Andrews in that role. She makes the movie.
Happy New Year, and I hope you get to relax.
