Week in Review: The Day by Day Edition (#85)

May 29, 2017 by Meghan 36 Comments

Get your pads and pens ready because it’s time for the Week In Review.

The Week In Review is a list, in its purest form, not of the things you still need to do, but of all the things you have done in the last seven days. It’s an achievement list, an ode to yourself, a celebration of sorts, and a virtual pat on the back or smack on the ass. Wink, wink, nudge, nudge.

Need more details? Head here.

♫ You can do it, put your list into it. ♫

Last week was uneventful, especially when you consider I didn’t have concrete plans or company in town. In comparison to weeks gone by, it felt almost slow and simple, which was refreshing, quite literally since I finished off that margarita mix I mentioned in my Currently post.

To make things more interesting, I’m breaking the week down by days and sharing the highlights, meaning I’m skipping over the copious amounts of laundry I folded, dishes I scrubbed or piles of cat vomit I washed off the floor. It’s a glamorous life I know.

Those margaritas are looking better and better right?

Let’s get listing:

On Monday, the kid and I did a big Costco run with the in-laws. Who doesn’t love two pound blocks of cheese? This is clearly a rhetoric question unless of course you’re lactose intolerant, in which case I’m sorry for you.

Tuesday found us at the Cleveland Zoo, where we got to see lots of animals, ride a carousel, feed some birds and hop on a train. Ave had a blast, even though the thirty seconds where she passed out in the car on the way home constituted her entire afternoon nap.

On Wednesday, we hit up the local library for some playtime shenanigans. They have a fantastic kids section and Ave loves to watch other tiny dictators in action, so we usually go there a couple times a week. We also indulged Ave with her first soft shelled taco and we practiced feeding ourselves with a spoon. Needless to say, Wednesday was also bath night.

Thursday was my free day. Ave spent the afternoon with my in-laws while I cleaned the house (not that you could tell now) and cooked. I made some basic granola, a batch of quinoa, sweet potato quinoa burgers and spinach ramp pesto, which the tiny human ate straight up with a spoon. What can I say? She has great taste.

Spinach Ramp Pesto

Friday was all about survival mode once Ave decided she had no interest in naps. I cancelled everything I’d mentally planned to accomplish and just made sure the babe and I stayed well fed and positive. Thankfully the Hubby only worked until three that day so he was able to give me a good break.

On Saturday, we hit up the beach for some family fun followed by dinner with friends and Ave’s little buddy.

Sunday was lunch with the in-laws, Panera at our house. After they left, the Hubby and I spontaneously decided to rearrange our entire bedroom. We still have to move pictures but it’s a solid start.

Now, it’s your turn. I’d love to hear from you. Link up and get yo’ list on.

Eh Ave looks about as I do after a good taco night. She’s learning well!
Your planner: a) I need to find a fuck it bucket sticker b) I love that “prior to dos” is one of your “to dos.” You teach me well.
I like this week. Its colorful and eclectic. Big cheese and beaches, some cooking and spontaneous home redecorating all sound really revitalizing. I need something new in my life to spark things up a bit right now.

Every time I walk into my bedroom, I’m like woah, what happened here? Maybe you should rearrange the furniture too. It’s definitely shaking things up. Also find yourself a two pound block of cheese. #purehappiness 🙂

    Meghan,

Sounds like a lovely week, and well worth celebrating. I am mentally planning how to rearrange furniture after my spouse takes what he’s taking to his new apartment, and further thinking about how I want to stage the house to sell next year.

Let’s see, I’ve got big accomplishments (finally got a recipe card coded onto my site) and small accomplishments (managed to hit all of my Morning Activities + a date w/ my spouse + measuring and recording my BP—OMG I did just type BO 😉 + whatever else is on my current Contract with Myself. So Yay Me! I’ll have a good report for my Accountability Partners this week.

Plus I worked 3 days, the last one with all young men as my fellow moms asked off for Ramadan–meaning that I felt like the only adult. I survived, and so did the sauces that the boys were ‘cooking’. When your 20 yr old coworker dumps all the ingredients for pizza sauce into a thin bottomed pan, carries it out to the range and plops it down, then turns the heat to High and vanishes for an hour (well, the directions said to cook for an hour?) . . . yeah, I spent my time running back and forth turning heat down under various pots and stirring, stirring, stirring. Nothing burned, so it’s a small accomplishment.

I hosted a dozen university students doing a Collaboration Accelerator internship nearby. Their challenge statement is: We’ve lost our connection to food. How do we find it again in the modern era? and for a site visit . . . my back yard? It was invigorating to answer their questions–and teach them about garlic scapes.

And finally, I got asked to do a couple of cooking-in-public situations. Pretty cool.

Your week sounds equally as awesome. I’d love the hear more about these cooking in public situations. That’s pretty slick.

Also I love that your garden was the site visit. I sent you an Instagram video. I have questions on my scapes. 🙂

Don’t move. I like having you in the same state.

I love Costco and their excessively heavy food products. And I agree with Cora — Ave looks just about how I look during taco night.
Looks like you had a hectic but fun week! Hope you enjoy your Memorial Day, Meghan!

I’m a big Costco fan and there have a pretty strict compliance policy in order to even have their food sold there, which makes me even happier.

We love the massive blocks of Costco cheese; they are the best. 🙂 They last quite a long time for us. I’m glad you had a good full week; I haven’t been to the zoo in forever. Now I want to go to the zoo.

And I’m glad you took that day to just make sure that you and the baby were well fed and happy. Those days are essential.

That’s funny about the cheese because I wrote about how much you like cheese in my Week in Review this week (putting it up in a bit). I actually physically winced when I read the part about Ave falling asleep in the car for a minute. I have NO IDEA why it wrecks their nap completely, but it totally does! WHYYYYYYYY?????? Now that C doesn’t nap anymore, I have to work around keeping him awake until his 7 o’clock bedtime because a one minute shut-eye in the van equals a preschooler party until midnight. DAMN KIDS. 😉

What is it about that one minute sleep? It’s like the ultimate power nap for kids and robs mothers everywhere of their solitude.

Our bedtime has been extended to 8 the past couple of days in hopes she’ll make it until 7 the next morning. No dice yet, but she made it until 6:30 this morning and that was pretty sweet.

That picture of Ave with the taco is wedding slide show material. We’ve hit up the zoo here too already and the pool. It’s starting to feel like summer finally (she says as it’s about to rain for the next 4 days). There’s something about the looser schedule of summer that is relaxing even if the days are longer and naps are fewer. Oh and please make me granola. I’ve never been able to do it and not burn it.

I’d be happy to make you granola. My trick is low heat and a short cook time. Also, I never spread it out on the cookie sheet. I let it cook in one big clump in the center, stirring the sides in to prevent burning about once halfway through.

The summer days are definitely helpful. We’re doing all the activities mainly because it gives us something to do and usually wears the kid out for a nap. Ha.

Naps seem to be hard to come by at the moment. 🙁 Sorry. I’ve been taking one literally every day. If I don’t conk out sometime between 2 and 4 pm, I’m surprised.
Speaking as someone with lactose intolerance, I can say that I will go for two pounds of cheese any day. Fortunately, hard cheese is very low in lactose, and I’m not *that* sensitive.

Buttermilk is also pretty good for people who are lactose intolerant and it makes baked goods so fluffy.

Haha!!! I AM lactose intolerant but that, my friend, will never, ever, stop me! I love and eat all the cheese anyway. Often! . Others might want to clear the room but in my eyes, solitude can be a good and healthful thing!

I’ve completed planting my vegetable garden this week, (thanks for tips and inspiration!) and am out there several times a day pacing around like an expectant daddy in the waiting room, making sure no harm has come. And in my hand is a useless ruler though I’d swear those two zucchini plants…..

I LOVE the first independent spoon self feeding and there is nothing more to say about that! Except maybe to marvel at the wash ability of tots! So far my favorite 100 photo!

Cheese induced solitude can be a great thing. Ha, ha. 🙂

Watch those zucchini plants; they will take off. You’ll want to help them climb up something. If they stay on the ground, they can get dry rot pretty easily.

Hmmmm, and I thought I was done planting things. I’ll run out and get a trellis and plant it for them. Can’t have dry rot cause I want to experience that traditional zucchini overload thing that I read so much about every August. Sounds like fun!

Hate to think what kind of gangrene thumb failure and disappointment I’d have ended up with without your help! Thanks so much!

Oh geez. Back to no naps again already?! That sounds rough. At least you’ve got that two pound brick of cheese but I bet right now you’d even trade that for some more zzzs. Other than this big missing thing your week sounds prettygood to me. First time taco feast, beaches and books – I like it!
The more I see of your planner, the more jealous I become. Despite searching high and low I wasn’t able to find a similar one around these parts.
Fingers crossed for the return of proper nap time!
