Since we’re nearing the end of the month, it’s time to slip another Currently post into the mix. Instead of rambling on, as is my usual custom, I’m getting right to the point today. You’re welcome.
Current Book:
I’m working on The Obsidian Chamber by Preston & Child, one of the many books in the Agent Pendergast series. They’re quick, easy reads but nothing to get excited about. Bear Town on the other hand by Fredrik Backman is a must read. I was instantly hooked.
Current Obsession: the nice weather. Ave and I are soaking up every minute of sunshine, with sunscreen of course because we’re Irish and paler than…well, almost everybody.
Current Triumphs: I was remarkably unfeathered when Ave boycotted her afternoon nap on Tuesday. Normally this kind of thing rattles me, but not this time. Apparently, I’m getting the hang of this parenting business. Either that or I was well fed.
Current Thankfulness: all the extra zzz’s I got last week. I’m still riding the sleep high.
Current Drink: margaritas, mainly because I’m trying to finish off the mix leftover from Easter. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.
Current Food: eggs. Ave and I eat scrambled eggs with some sort of veggie and cheese at least four times a week. We definitely don’t hate it or double negatives.
Current Confession: we eat them because they’re fast and easy; when the tiny dictator is hungry, she makes me look patient. Now that is scary.
Current Excitement: my CSA is starting in two weeks and I’m one eager beaver, minus the broad tail and buck teeth. Thank you braces and good genes.
Current Needs: a haircut, desperately bad. My grey is showing, my ends are curling and I’m starting to resemble a Chia pet. Ch-Ch-Ch-Chia.
Current Bane of Existence: I don’t have one which is cause alone for celebration. Hey, how about a margarita?
Current Non-Guilty Pleasure: Thursdays. My in-laws whisk the tiny human away to their house and I’m blissfully free to do whatever I want, which usually involves some kind of food shopping, cleaning and couch yoga. Hashtag balance.
Current Mood: caffeinated because it’s the only way I function these days.
Your turn. What’s Currently going on in your world? Current book? Current obsession? Current confession?
Kirsten says
Yay for Thursdays! I’m telling you, the Wednesdays my folks provided me when Emma was nearing completion and then out were such a wonderful gift. I’m very glad you’ve got Thursdays.
Did you read Ove? By Backman? I did and loved it. Even liked the movie adaptation which is saying something. I’ll have to try this one. I saw it at the bookstore where my spouse and I hang for the evening because our 17 yr old licensed driver prefers not to drive herself to sewing class . . . but one more class and then school’s out for summer! (She’s making me dresses.)

I haven’t read Ove. It’s on my list, right behind The Year of Living Danishly, which was your recommendation a zillion years ago. 🙂
Thursdays are amazing.

I love eggs too! I boil several weekly because…my husband is retired and home all day and thinks I’ve made his lunch if there are hard boiled eggs in the fridge for him. I am a low down cheating wife.I prefer mine scrambled, frittata-ed, quiched, and over easy and with loads of veg too! And cheese, don’t forget all the cheese!
I still have A Man Called Ove in my stack to read. It is up next for me to read, after just finishing a memoir called Three Cups Of Tea, which I found my mind wandering in one or two areas, and couldn’t put it down in others.
I love Thursdays too! For you of course! New moms should all have a Thursday!
How is it that some people are so darned photogenic (you and Ave) and others (me) just are not? Is it an extra layer of confidence? The amount of photos to choose from? Do I need a little person on my hip too? Am I missing that natural inner beauty? Aaah, that’s it! This photo of the two of you is the best! They’re all the best!
Lastly, I love your morning hair! I think it should be your ‘look’, lol! Go ahead, free yourself!
Meghan says
Confession: my morning hair is my favorite too. Even if I tried to style it, I can never get it to look quite like that. Ha!!
I used to hate pictures and refused to let people photograph me. Now I just smile as big as possible and hope for the best. Interestingly the blog has helped break me out of that anti-photo shell and I’m totally fine with it.
Thursdays are amazing, and I’d photograph my garden for you except it’s raining right now. Oh well, at least it means I won’t have to do yard work today. 🙂

The broad tail reference made me laugh out loud and it’s only 6am! CHAMP. You’re so hilarious. SUCH a good writer. I think your hair is cute! Although I just ate chia seeds in my oatmeal for breakfast.

Chia seeds freak me out. Plus they get caught in your teeth. I’ll stick with my flax powder, thank you very much.

I’m still currently reading this totally not too well written yet weirdly captivating teen drama novel. Its long and I’m a slow reader, but having something completely unrelated to the blog (and the computer in general) or acting or my personal life has been so, so good. I think I want to get into the Outlander series next. You read them, yes?
Cora recently posted…How Hitting Rock Bottom May Be A Catalyst For Change

Oh yes, I loved the Outlander series. Those are long reads though, like a thousand pages each book, but so well worth it.

I’m reading a Frederick Backman book right now as well! (Britt-Marie Was Here – Sort of a spinoff/sequel to My Grandmother Told Me to Tell You She’s Sorry). Totally feel ya on the pale skin. I think we all got roasted on our vacation (whoops!) except for Enzo… he has amazing skin that doesn’t burn, but turns a lovely golden color. Don’t know who he got that from. Phoebe, however, completely takes after her Scandinavian father and his side of the family. She practically burns just looking at the sun.

I just wrote a review of Bear Town for Literary Mama! It will be out in June. I loved that book. It broke my heart and made me hope at the same time, as all of Backman’s novels do. LOVE Benji.

Love these pictures! Sounds like you’re having a good time, as is tiny dictator.
I met Fredrik Backman at a book conference last summer and he’s such a kind, thoughtful person. He told me his mother prefers the movie version of A Man Called Ove to his book because she fancies the main actor. At least she’s honest! I can’t wait to read Bear Town, but next for me is My Grandmother Asked Me To Tell You She’s Sorry, also by Backman, for book club. I’m also going to read Ramona Blue, hopefully before the library yells at me to bring it back.
Have a marvelous weekend!
Meghan says
That is awesome you met Fredrik Backman. I can’t wait to read A Man Called Ove next…well after A Year of Living Dangerously and a couple of others but you know what I mean. 🙂
I love seeing you in my comments section. 🙂

That glowing book review actually made me google the book! Apparently I’m going to be sitting on my ass more… may as well get back into reading. I used to read a book a week! Now I’m old and lazy. At least I don’t have buck teeth to pair with my expanding beaver tail. Thanks for the braces, dad.
I wish I was closer so I could help you out with that margarita mix. Way to power through that. I know it’s hard.

Riding the sleep high?! I very much like reading this. And child-free Thursdays? Not bad, either.
Current obsession (sue me for going with this): P. He’s here again this weekend and I can’t get enough of him. You and him would be best friends because cheese is his ultimate favourite food but his mean Mama restricts his intake ;).
Current book though not really [I simply refuse finishing it because I don’t want it to end]: Thinking, fast and slow by Daniel Kahneman. It’s beyond amazing.

I’m so glad you’re getting to spend so much time with P. I love that, and I really want the same for Ave. She gets to see my in-laws often but my family is a three hour drive away so I try to face time and visit as much as possible. I want her to have that same relationship with my family that you have with P.
I don’t restrict her cheese intake at all, BUT I do try to make sure she eats lots of veggies so it all works out.

You can never go wrong with eggs. Scrambled, poached, fried–the list goes on!!!
Have you read Backman’s earlier book, My Name is Ove? I really enjoyed it. Glad to hear Beartown is good too! Will hopefully pick that up soon. I just started The Most Dangerous Place in the World by Lindsey Lee Johnson. Also currently thankful for good weather and down time!

Currently we are recovering from the worst illness I’ve known to date. I’ll start by saying last weekend or several days ago we went to a kids bday party, church and kid church nursery, a drop in day care, and many social activities in 3 day span. Well that all resulted in poor Lulu getting an ear infection and me getting the worst stomach flu of my life. Im still recovering but at least keeping stuff down. These stomach bugs are no joke. I expect by 3 years old she and I will both have titanium immune systems. It’s been a long few days to say the least. But it’s given me time to catch up on tv! I have been in bed while hubbys taken sick baby duty and I’ve watched all of the First Dates series, started This is Us, and just started Power. I love Power and it’s super steamy wink wink.
Currently ready a Marian Keys book and just finished a good one by Sophie Kinsella. Good lighthearted stuff but well done.
Food is anything I can keep. Broth. Simple carbs. Crate also with almond milk and sugar.
Apparently milk and antibiotics really don’t belong together. Lulu vomited like the exorcist last night and I’m still recovering. It’s gonna be a while.
Can you send some margaritas and pancakes please
Meghan says
Oh no!!! I’m so sorry to hear this. I will send all the margaritas and pancakes. Thank goodness the Hubby was done with school and could take on sick baby duty. I hope you guys are feeling better and fully recovered now.
I like Sophie Kinsella’s books. They’re lighthearted, funny and quick reads. You should do her Shopaholic series if you haven’t already.
