Week in Review: The Recap Edition (#114)

January 8, 2018 by Meghan 38 Comments

Get you pads and pens ready because it’s time for the Week In Review.

The Week In Review is a list, in its purest form, not of the things you still need to do, but of all the things you have done in the last seven days. It’s an achievement list, an ode to yourself, a celebration of sorts, and a virtual pat on the back or smack on the ass. Wink, wink, nudge, nudge.

Need more details? Head here.

♫ You can do it, put your list into it. ♫

Let’s get listing:

It feels like it’s been weeks since I’ve written a blog post….oh wait, it has.

Confession: I thoroughly enjoyed the down time and barely turned on my computer. In fact, I’m kind of struggling with the idea of penning a post, so I’ll stick with a short blurb instead. Or maybe I should say shortish; this is me after all.

Suffice to say, Christmas happened. It was magical and fraught with family, frightening driving conditions and four foot furry elephants, who almost rode shotgun while we traversed the wintery terrain.

(At one point, I drove off the highway to avoid the car spinning out in front of me, narrowly avoided the reflector stick barely showing, and quickly bounced back onto the highway and continued as if nothing had happened.)

New Years Eve was lovely and included hooker heels and a tasty meal out with the Hubby before curling up into bed at 11 p.m. I’d rather sleep than watch Ryan Seacrest.

(I did not break an ankle, and I did get two very vocal compliments plus one intense and longing stare, so clearly the shoes were worth it.)

Since then it’s been bloody cold and blustery here. We’re talking wind chill warnings and near negative temps. As such, I did a 2,000 piece puzzle to pass the time. I finished it in 5 days so I think I deserve a medal or at the very least a cookie. I read a handful of books, I plowed through the first season of Stranger Things, and after weeks off, I busted out my 2018 planner. It feels good to cut into some washi tape.

As far as the tiny dictator goes, there were play dates, pizza, prancing, and even some pouting. I legit caught her practicing her fake cry in the mirror. Clearly, Ave is too smart for her own good.

(Ave handles all the seasonings in our house. She’s taken a liking to eating the onion powder straight up.)

We did lots of shopping (which is my code phrase for running errands: hello Whole Foods, Breadsmith and Target), we went to the science center, barrelled through balls, watched The Sound of Music, played with all of her new toys over and over and over again. Oh and we went bike riding, through the house that is.

Last but certainly not least, we did a lot of this.

(Ahhhh, the life of a stay at home mother.)

Now it’s your turn. I’d love to hear from you. Link up and get yo’ list on.

I am SO glad you enjoyed your break and did not get stuck on the side of the road on the highway. Stay inside, stay warm, make your planner pretty. Also, the twins love their balance bikes…so much so, I’m not sure we are ever going to convince them to give them up for the real thing.

I’m not so patiently waiting for Ave to get the hang of it. Right now, my back is killing me from hunching over the damn thing. That being said, she does love it and I know it’ll be worth it. Hashtag Mom Workouts.

      Happy New Year Lovely.

first, I’m glad you are ok after those hazardous driving conditions! I’ve had enough of the winter already. Second, GLITTER HEELS! You know I love them. Third, Ave is just so adorable.

It does feel pretty hard to get to back to it, doesn’t it? Writing a post felt good, but there was definitely a part of me that was like…mmm…. can it still be holidays?

Glad to see miss ave was spoiled over the break with lots of fun cooking experiments, outings and her new trampoline. Oh wait, that was you under there. #takeonefortheteammama. Those wheels though. I’d take a pair of those.

Stay warm. Stay inside. I am definitely not going outside unless I absolutely have to. I need a new planner to play with.

Yes, you definitely need a planner and a side of stickers to go with it.

Ave likes to ‘jump’ off mom. Another few more days and I may have internal bleeding. 🙂

Wow certain people are just really gifted with the patience for those enormous puzzles. I LOVE seeing how it comes together to form a beautiful picture. It seems like that’s what God does in my life year by year; He takes all the pieces that often feel disorganized and just really hard and He pieces something beautiful together every year. It’s so awesome.

Christmas looks like it was sooo snowy there; we had about an inch of snow! 🙂 Colorado has been so warm while it seems like almost everywhere else besides California and Florida and some tropical states have been really cold.

It’s been ridiculously cold here, so much that the 30 degrees today feels practically balmy.

      Puzzles are my jam.

I think it’s fun that Ave calls you “Silly Mommy”! . I wanted to join in too! So glad you enjoyed your break and returned safely back to us. We hardly left the house in our sub-zero weather.

The puzzle is amazing! We aren’t as dedicated because the Christmas one we started a week before is 1000 pieces? The bottom 1/4 (hardest part) sits waiting for us to renew our enthusiasm.

I didn’t realize she was saying “silly” mommy until you pointed it. That makes me laugh even more. This child cracks me up. She said, “Oh boy, oh boy,” out of nowhere the other day, and I was like where is she learning this stuff? Ha.

The puzzle enthusiasm will return soon. Hang in there, and Happy New Year!!

My worst/funniest winter driving story: this is the first winter I’ve had a car with ABS. So the first time I spun out I was sliding all over the road, doing the whole gently pump brakes, steer into the slide, etc that you do when you don’t have ABS brakes…until I remembered that I could just *put my brakes on* and they would work. Fortunately I remembered this just in time to stop before I slid into the ditch.

That is some fortunate timing. ABS makes all the difference. Our car has them, plus it’s all wheel drive which is a huge help.

The struggle to get back into blogging is so flipping real for me, too. Partially because my mind likes to go different places than me at the moment.
Tell Ave the tree at my parents is still up – or was, as of yesterday – though she might be a little disappointed it’s not exactly real or traditional by any means. Speaking of Ave: has she really grown that tall already? Goodness, I can’t believe her and P. are turning two this year.
I’m glad your Christmas and New Year’s Eve were nice. Wow to those heels. I would have definitely broken an ankle – after getting a mean blister minutes into wearing it. I’m prone to those. You’ve got the hot heels, Ave’s got the hot wheels!

Made props to you on surviving in those heels!
Also, those indoorsy activities–puzzle-doing, movie-watching and planner-filling–are giving me all the coziness vibes.

I think it’s so good to take a break sometimes. It feels like my whole last year was a break and I have difficulties to get into the blogging mindset again. We’ll see what happens. I am so happy with my new planner, too! Isn’t it awesome to get to start a new one every year?

I laughed so much when I saw this video on IG. Mainly because I can so relate. I am the kids’ designated trampoline for years now. And albeit it’s painful sometimes it’s still fun 🙂

It’s tricky to get back into the mindset but once you get going, it comes back pretty easily. At least for me, when I’m feeling it, that is. I’m hoping to see more of you on the blog in 2018. I’ve missed you.

oh miss meghan, those shoes!!! i just love em and the puzzle is pretty dazzling as well. i’ve never done puzzles as an adult (or teenager?!) but i’m starting to become interested in them because we have this little human that is newly learning the world and i am newly learning all sorts of things, too. so puzzles. i missed the boat before but now i’m ready to explore. for i’m doing baby puzzles but they are quite delightful.
i’m so glad you had a magical holiday season! time sure is flying… i can’t believe how time is going by. my brother is on a plane now headed back to Scotland, and he was here for 3 weeks so for me today is the day that my ‘season’ is over. i guess that’s not true literally, but i loved having my brother here. he is the best uncle i could ever hope for, and the best brother. we will be seeing him in June when we all fly over the pond to see him at his graduation. oh my goodness i can’t even imagine flying together for 10 hours!! we’re going to just get 2 seats and literally see what happens. LOL happy 2018 my mama friend!!! xoxo

My post on Tuesday took me forever to write. But once I finished it I felt great, like I got my groove back! I would be lying if I said I missed it though. Like you I didn’t turn on my computer the whole of the holidays.
Puzzle update- we haven’t touched it in almost a week! All that is left are central white pieces which you literally have to go and try one by one… Takes so long and makes me want to pull my hair out! We will finish it though, we will!

And speaking of crazies… uhm… I’m really glad you’re okay after that drive!
