Get you pads and pens ready because it’s time for the Week In Review.
The Week In Review is a list, in its purest form, not of the things you still need to do, but of all the things you have done in the last seven days. It’s an achievement list, an ode to yourself, a celebration of sorts, and a virtual pat on the back or smack on the ass. Wink, wink, nudge, nudge.
Need more details? Head here.
♫ You can do it, put your list into it. ♫
Do you ever have those moments that cause you to stop and wonder who you are and how you got here? Your life is so much different than you’d imagined and you can’t help but be struck by it. I had my fair share of those last week
On that note, let’s get listing:
The Hubby and I took Ave to not one, but two different open houses for preschools in our area.
It was absolutely surreal, especially the little girls in ponytails and plaid skirts giving tours. It brought me back to the tours we gave in high school, where a friend got violently ill in the book store due to an overabundance of booze the night before. In an effort to hide our sinister ways, we sprayed the marble floor with the only cleaning product we could find, furniture polish, essentially turning our tours into an ice skating rink and a liability. Oops.
I swam laps while my child took swimming lessons fifteen feet away.
I did more loads of laundry than I care to admit, including an entire batch of stuffed animals, well…except for the four foot elephant. He doesn’t fit in the washing machine. I can’t even believe I typed that sentence, but it’s true.
I spent a day frolicking outside in the middle of January.
Thank you 52 degree weather (11 Celsius) for allowing Ave and I to hit up the zoo and the park in the middle of winter. Despite all our activities lately, it was starting to feel a little bit like The Shining up in here.
I went out in public in my pajamas. I wasn’t alone.
(Crouching tiger, climbing ninja.)
I ate bacon. It was delicious. Life is better when you don’t limit yourself to a label.
Last but not least, I loosely planned my blogging schedule for the foreseeable future. Of course, whether I stick to it or not remains to be seen.
(This is an old picture, but you get the idea.)
Now it’s your turn. I’d love to hear from you. Link up and get yo’ list on.
What are three things you accomplished in the last week? Big or small.
Naomi says
Yay for weather conducive to zoo and park trips! Your story about giving tours made me laugh, and I love your colorful planner. Also, agreed: bacon is delicious and not limiting yourself to a label makes for a better life.

Unrecognizable life. Check.
We did the zoo this past week too. It was cold-ish but heaven to be outside. I am so ready for spring. Remember al fresco dinners?

What I wouldn’t give for an al fresco dinner. It felt so good to be outside though, even if it was a tad chilly. I can’t wait for the warmer weather. Kids and the cold don’t mix.

I’m in favor of going out in public in pajamas. Sometimes getting dressed is just not worth the effort. I love how happy your planner looks. Mine is just all black-and-white “do the things”. Maybe I need some motivational stickers.
Meghan says
Yes motivational stickers are a huge help. They make planning fun and funky. You can get some at Erin Condren or there are a ton of shops on Etsy. I really like Four Daisies Design.

Preschool and solo swim lessons?!? Wow. Is Ave growing up!
It’s crazy that your warm weather is Texas winter everyday one.

Your summers in Texas are so hot it keeps you indoors, just like our winters keeps us inside. Maybe I should move someone in the middle of the map. 🙂
Oh and the Hubby does the swim lessons with Ave; she’s not flying solo just yet. 🙂

Lol! I go out of doors in my pj’s every single morning, round 10. The neighbors might think I’m mad, but it cuts down on pesky uninvited visitors, hehe! Someone has to bring the mail in and I purchase only cute flannels.
We don’t label ourselves dietarily either, and just had BLT’s the other day! (Sadly mine salad style) Couple of times a year, just gotta fulfill that need. Same with a crusty grilled hot dog at least once in the summer. And sometimes I buy a smoked turkey leg to simmer a pot of greens and bean, but we discard the meat.
Little Ave going to preschool? Time sure flies! She seems to be so interested in everything and engaged that it must be time, hard as it is to imagine. I love that you’ve found a way to get her swim lessons and a workout for yourself too! She’s so willing! Not one of my four would been willing. Too shy and I’d have had to been standing next to them.
Meghan says
I actually just bought bacon today for some baked potatoes. It sounded right to me, topped with lots of cheddar cheese, plain yogurt (mimic sour cream), and broccoli because hooray veggies.
We’ve got a year and a half still before preschool actually starts, but we wanted to see what’s out there since we had no clue. Oh and the Hubby does the swim lessons with her. All the little ones are accompanied by a parent at that age. Ave probably wouldn’t do it without one of us there for comfort. She does love the pool though.

Grandma Lala says
I know it’s out of line, but I cannot help myself. lol of my children prospered in the Montessori environment. Especially our youngest nd most socially sensitive, who attended through the 9th grade, which was perfect for him. Our oldest, a daughter is now teaching at the same school in the 3-5 class and it’s dream job!
If you haven’t investigated Montessori yet, please do, but make sure they are fully accredited. You will either be drawn to their ways or not for Ave, or not!
Grandma Lala says
Sorry to be a pain, but maybe do some reading on Maria Montessori. The foundation of her theories are very inspiring. And now I’m done. Sorry again!
Meghan says
Your opinion is always wanted and welcomed. One of the schools we looked at was a Montessouri school, and it gave me all the warm and fuzzies. I don’t know if it was accredited or not so I’ll definitely look into that. Thanks!!

I can’t believe it’s time for preschool!!! I also can’t believe you thought furniture polish was a good idea for cleaning up puke. LOL!
Nice job including the celsius. I know someone who appreciates that. 😉
Meghan says
Technically we’ve got another year and a half for preschool but we wanted to see what was out there since we have zero clue about this schooling a tiny human business.

Id like to hear more about your high school days. I feel there may be some more sinister storytelling under there. We can keep them from Ave…. until after she’s graduated high school. Or university.
Also, Ave has the coolest style. I want those brown fuzzy booties.
Meghan says
I think it’s a minor miracle I survived high school.
Ave is obsessed with her fuzzy boots. She won’t let us put any other shoes on.

Ha thanks for including the temperature in celsius for your Canadian friends! 😉 Saturday was warm here too before it cruelly dipped back down to -15. Ah well, it will make the spring that much sweeter.

Dreaming of spring, or at least weather warm enough to play outside without losing a digit to frostbite.

I too have those ‘how did I get here?’ moments. Never in a million years would I have ever dreamed I would be living in Australia. It wasn’t even on my bucket list. So now I never discount anything – who knows where or what I will be in 5 years time.
Although I must say that if my future included a massive cuddle elephant I would be very happy.

OMG PRESCHOOL?????? Next week she’s basically off to college! I guess the fake cry will help her navigate through all of this though! She is convincing!
Your high school story made me laugh and makes me wish I could have been friends with high school Meg!
Oh yes, I can see how you must feel. I am in a phase where I realize that I have reached everything I had worked towards in the last 30 years but I never thought one step further and now I am here and kinda useless. And it feels a lot like what am I doing and how did I get here.
As always I have planner envy ;-P
I hope you guys had a great birthday party!

We have another year and a half before she starts preschool but it was definitely surreal.
High school Meg is lucky to have survived. Ha!! It was a lot of fun though.

Wait, what?? Preschools and swimming lessons? I’m sorry, yes, I was absent from the blogging world for a little while but how fast did Ave grow? And yes, I mention my surprise at toddlers growth spurts time and time again but that’s because I still can’t grasp it and honestly don’t think I ever will.
Hm, I can’t relate to the feeling you mentioned but I think maybe it’s my age/relationship status/not having a child? I don’t know for sure but think my sister might feel similarly, especially since – like for you – a child hadn’t been in the picture of the life she’d envisioned before.
Also, can you please stop posting pictures of your amazing planner?! I’m genuinely jealous and even searching high and low brought about none of the likes over here. Pity because I’m convinced a great planner would automatically turn me into a way more organized person. It’s logic. Obviously ;).

I think your sister and I would get along great. I’d love to meet her and little P one day, right after meeting you of course.

I haven’t managed to stick to my blogging schedule AT ALL in January, so I’m hoping your plans go better 😛 And Ave is already swimming? Holy.moly, lady. She’s a lucky little thing to be able to experience so much early in life. Also… does that mean you have to hand wash the 4-foot elephant?

Ave loves the water, although not necessarily floating on her back. She is not down with that part.
I suppose I’ll just spray the four foot elephant with some antibacterial cleaner. Other than that, I’m open to ideas. 😉
