Week In Review: The Fourteenth Edition

April 22, 2013 by Meghan 52 Comments

The weekend is over.

The work week has begun.

Instead of focusing on those rather dismal facts, I’m going to recap all the shenanigans that went down in my world last week, and I’m going to do it in list form.

Ladies and gentlemen, I give you the Week In Review: The Fourteenth Edition.

Week In Review Button Final

Since I am so selfless (just keep moving), I want to share all the fun with you, so link up your accomplishments big and small, or the ones that were boring or not at all. It’s your world, it’s your post. Just link it up, and I’ll dig you the most.  For more linky details, click here.

Let’s get listing:

  • I went on a food binge, particularly those that start with the letter A. Artichokes, asparagus, yes please. I stuffed some ‘chokes inside pizza dough and called it a day, or really dinner.

Artichoke Calzone

I made asparagus saucy with a red wine vinaigrette, some nutty Asiago cheese (also an A word, plus I get to say nutty) and a hard-boiled egg. Perfection, minus the small fact my picture is off-center. Oops. No matter, this tasted divine.

Asparagus with egg and asiago

  • I wrote and published three blog posts.
  • I worked my way through two fitness classes: Mixed Martial Arts and Boot Camp. It was a slow exercise week, but I did get new sneakers, which more than makes up for it. Yes, my new sneakers are pretty and pink. You can be jealous now.

New Sneakers

  • I bought a lot of oats. A bag bigger than my head in fact, because that’s totally normal. I used them to make granola and Acorn Squash Blackberry Oat Muffins, and the Hubby made himself a batch of energy bars (confession: I stole a couple. Alright, dammit, I stole a whole row).

Meg and The Oats

  • I officially ordered my summer CSA, which starts in June, and I cannot wait. I ended up going with the single share, the same as last year, which “provides enough produce for two to three people to have several servings throughout the week.” Truth time: I had to work my ass off to be able to use up all the produce, and I loved every challenging second of it. Well almost every second. There were a couple of times I was thwarted by peppers and bushels of greens. In the meantime, I am living off my farmer’s market finds, and if you’ve liked my Facebook page, this picture is old news.

Clean Eats, Fast Feets Farmer's Market Finds B

  • I hosted a girls night on Saturday which means I cleaned the house and while I didn’t actually cook anything, I did a lot of chopping, with the Hubby’s help. Special favors might have been granted to enlist his services. My negotiation skills are strong or perhaps I just flashed him a boob. Sometimes being a woman is awesome.

The Boob Pit

  • I worked forty hours at the jobby-job.
  • I made Heather’s phenomenal blueberry coconut almond sauce so I could participate in Better With Veggies Meatless Monday party, which means today’s post is a link up within a link up. How’s that for slick?

MMAZ

Not only is Heather’s blueberry sauce absolutely amazing, it happens to go really well with grilled cheese, especially the kind that involves brie, toasted walnuts and cinnamon raisin bread. Yup, I ate this puppy last night, and if I had any brie left, I’d do it again tonight.

Grilled-Cheese-with-Blueberry-Sauce-Brie-and-Walnuts-on-Cinnamon-Raisin-Bread

On that glorious note, because this sandwich is definitely glorious, I’m going to call it a day. But not before I hear from you. Link up and let me know what you’ve been up to.

What did you do in the past seven days. Anything exciting? Or not so exciting? Do you find men easily distracted by boobs? Have you ever done it?

Oh sweet baby Jesus!! That shot is the epitome of FOODPORN!! I mean, shit, you said it was a good picture, but you just put the pics from my original post to SHAME! Just wanted you to know that…BUT I’ve been up all night and I have GOT to go to bed right now or I’m going to pass out in the middle of the floor, so I’ll be back later to read everything, ok? Ok! 😉

Meghan, your artichoke/asparagus/pizza thingy looks incredible! I could eat it all. Truly the bag of oats is bigger than your heard, I think you have a tiny head though. 😉 The sneakers are wonderful, I need some new ones and I’m thinking of some flashy ones. I really need to dig out my purple plaid high tops that I bought last year and haven’t worn. They’re just for show not for exercise though! Can’t wait to start playing with Week in Review! Have a great day, kiddo!

I do have a tiny head Fran; you’re right, although it’s still a big bag, and I didn’t realize how big until I got home. Oops. Well I bought them in bulk and they will get used, likely within the month. I love the sound of those high tops. Please dig them out and then share a picture on the blog. I love shoes, and I want to see. Pretty please.

That oatmeal bag is literally the size of your head. I would have just taken it for exaggeration if you hadn’t given photographic evidence!

A++ Stuffed-Pizza dough genius looks fantastic. As does that collage of vegetables.

Now I’m about to link up with WIR so I won’t forget this time and have to be reminded by you 😉

Yep no exaggeration on that baby. I guess I got a little carried away in the bulk section of the store. Oops.

Too bad I didn’t eat all the green veggies in March when Peas & Crayons was doing Love Your Greens. Oh well, must be something about spring because veggies are calling my name. Grilled cheese too.

Thanks for linking up; it totally makes my day, and I really appreciate it!!

Er you might want to change this post’s title to: FOOD PORN! Between that stuffed pizza dough and pimped out grilled cheese, I am totally drooling here- YUM! Next time you need help chopping, no need to ask the hubby! I am more than happy to donate my labor- the only compensation I ask is in meal form ;)! And I am super jealous about your new pretty trainers! I only buy Asics trainers but wish they came in fun colors!

Why do you have to be such a damn GENIUS?!! Why?! I mean really woman…the things you do with cheese…it’s flippin’ magical! I mean it…like right up there with freaking unicorns and shit! 😉

I can’t believe I’ve never made a calzone before…wait, I don’t think I’ve even EATEN a calzone before…Hot Pockets do NOT count in this! That needs to change. I have some pizza dough in the freezer. Hmmm…. And I’m still on the fence with Brie. Of course, I’ve only had it cold. And I hear that it’s like 293674 times better when it’s cooked. I have some of that in the fridge as well! Yeah, I think I have a bit of everything in the fridge right now…except for unicorns and shit! 😉

I ALWAYS buy bags of oats that big! Haha! Back in the day, I used to buy these Frankenfood animal crackers from Sam’s Club and they came in a MASSIVE plastic container…I saved two of them and that is what I keep my oats ad my shredded coconut in (because about a year ago, I something like a 5 pound bag of super fine shredded coconut and am STILL working on it…but I’m SO not complaining!). It’s funny, when I’m scooping the last of the oats from the bottom, I’m up to my elbow in the container! Haha!

I TOTALLY had a flashback to the peppers when you said you “loved every challenging second” of your CSA last year…just keep that fervor and dedication when you are neck high in peppers and greens this year! May the veggie force be with you! <- I have NO IDEA why I just said that!

Ok you seriously need to make a calzone, and hot pockets absolutely do not count. Not even close. I’ve had both so I can judge. Two, you cannot eat brie cold; it’s just not right. Heat it up in the microwave for a few seconds or in your oven for a few minutes (skin on) and then spread it (hee, hee) on delicate crackers and pair it with fresh fruit. You will think you have died and gone to heaven. Bonus points if you wrap your brie in phyllo dough and add raspberry sauce with fresh thyme before baking it. It is heaven sent, I promise, although you may need a magic cheese pill prior. 🙂
Ah yes those peppers, and do you remember the damn green beans? I’ve only eaten green beans like twice since then; it scarred me good.

Haha, ok…I’ve taken my notes…make a calzone, nuke the brie, and find a fellowship of cheese lovers who can actually help me eat a big a$$ thing of phyllo-wrapped, raspberry and thyme infused bundle of goodness! 😉

Dude, I forgot all about the green beans! Haha! I actually went to the store today and bought some on a whim…ok, that’s not exactly true. I saw them on a blog…then started obsessing about them…then I went to the store and came out with green beans, asparagus, and sharp cheddar! Damn cheese! Gets me every time! 😉

Mmm asparagus and sharp cheddar. That needs to go in some kind of omelet; doesn’t that sound delicious.

I want to be a part of a CSA so badly. I’m pretty sure I could take down a single share all by my lonesome, and learn a lot about produce–and my GI tract?–along the way.

    Just saying.

Also, that grilled cheese idea is amazing.

But again, about my GI tract…

You should do a CSA; I think you could totally hang with one and maybe even show your GI tract who’s boss. You’ll be all kinds of regular before the season is over. Just saying.

I have received my Map My Walk Weekly Training Summary and would like to report that we (spouse was using up leave this week) nearly walked a marathon over the course of the week:
    11 workouts
    9 routes
    25.6 miles
    8.3 hours

Now, I must confess that I lied to you last Monday, because at the time I did not realize that my “week” in Map My Walk starts on Sunday and ends on Saturday, so last Saturday’s 5K walk was not in last week’s total, but you’ll find it in this one.

Which of course means that I need to start walking a marathon’s worth over the course of the week . . . because it’s important to have goals.

I am torn between the stuffed pizza and the sandwich . . . heck, give them both to me please.

I am very impressed with your mad walking skills. If I ever have to be on a walking team again, I will recruit you for sure.

That IS one glorious sandwich. I recently learned it’s grilled cheese month, and I have yet to have a grilled cheese. But my plan is to hit up the local grilled cheese food truck, which is much less ambitious than you and your pile of grilled cheesy deliciousness.

Also, I have asparagus. And I didn’t know what to do with it. Solution? It’s now going in pizza dough. Because everything is better in pizza dough. Especially garlic. Now I’m imagining a potent pizza-dough brew of garlic and asparagus. I am going to have to avoid being downwind of humans for a week after that…

I am aware of April being National Grilled Cheese Month, and I have some big plans. They may pop up on Friday’s blog if I can get my act together in time (i.e. all my pictures editing because I’ve been eating grilled cheese all month!).
I think you should stuff your asparagus and some garlic in pizza dough; sounds like a genius idea to me. The other humans will adjust.
