Get your pads and pens ready because it’s time for the Week In Review.
The Week In Review is a list, in its purest form, not of the things you still need to do, but of all the things you have done in the last seven days. It’s an achievement list, an ode to yourself, a celebration of sorts, and a virtual pat on the back or smack on the ass. Wink, wink, nudge, nudge.
Need more details? Head here.
♫ You can do it, put your list into it. ♫
Let’s get listing:
My weeks are all starting to run together. Honestly they feel like one big blur of baby, baby, baby and food, and I do mean hers. The majority of the past seven days was spent battling nap time, which makes for a snooze worthy post, pun totally intended.
(“I’ll show you where you can shove nap time.”)
In addition to dropping down to two naps a day, the tiny human tried her hand (or really her mouth) at broccoli and scrambled eggs. She seemed to enjoy both and despite the amount that ended up on the floor, her dirty diapers prove she was a fan. Baby digestion is nonexistent. You’re welcome.
We ran errands, played games, made an appearance at our lactation support group and story time, and went on lunch dates with other babies who slept blissfully and peacefully through the entire thing. Believe me, I noticed.
For my part, I watched a lot of Gilmore Girls while guzzling mimosas. I also made Cora’s healthy alfredo sauce (be still my cheese loving heart), a batch of my own artichoke & brown rice soup (it’s like a hug in food form), baked sweet potato chips (recipe coming this week), and a peach crisp.
It’s your turn. I want to hear from you. Link up and get yo’ list on.
What are three things you accomplished in the last week, big or small?
meredith @ cookie chrunicles says
aw, she’s getting so big! I hope she naps more this week, we moms need that time as much as the babies do.

Ain’t that the truth. She sleeps like a beast at night, but day time naps…yeah, not so much.

You know you’re a salad fiend when despite the amount of deliciousness in a post, the salad is what leaves you drooling most ;)! Another successful week in the books- nicely done Meg! Three things I achieved was start (and finish) The Night Of, Skype catch with friends overseas that I’ve been meaning to forever and come up with a few new energy ball recipes!

Broccoli and scrambled eggs? Wow! You’re going at a fast pace with the BLW there – I like it. While I have no studies at hand just now to back it up but I’m pretty sure broadening a baby’s palate this soon already will turn it into an adventurous/healthy eater later on. Just don’t introduce cheese too early or you’ll have to share all the time ;). [kidding because yes, dairy …]
I still want to come over, hang out and watch Gilmore Girls with you. And hey, I’d obviously play with Ave so at least you could take a nap or two more. Though I already promised the same thing to my sister who I’ll finally see again for the first time in almost a month on Friday.

You know I don’t share my cheese. 🙂 Kidding, although we’ve got carrots and sweet potatoes next on the list. We’ll probably only get to one this week since we should only do one new food every five days.
Come on over. I’m watching Gilmore Girls right now. Bring the sister and the kid. 🙂

Cora says
Oh man that peach crisp! So comforting.
I’m so happy you made the alfredo sauce. I have some noodles I need to use up so was thinking of making another batch this week. Also, “hug in food form” is definitely the way to describe your soup. Its almost strange how true it is…
I think it would be so exciting and fun to start feeding a baby real/new foods. How crazy to think of putting something in your mouth for the first time. I guess the cleanup process may quickly take away that excitement, but still, way to go getting in those greens!

It is pretty exciting feeding Ave new foods. I still get a kick with each new food. We’ve got carrots and sweet potatoes next on the list. Wish her (and me) luck!
I’m so glad you loved the soup. Your alfredo sauce was fantastic too. It’s definitely going in the rotation. 🙂

Peach crisp, Meghan? I’m in. Lately all I want to do is turn on the oven and bake things. Yesterday afternoon I had 3 different breads in various stages, which paired nicely with Mustard Greens Soup. Actually, the soup will have a different name, but I’ll be damned if I know what it will be. I had a wad of mustard greens bigger than Vincent and even after tearing off the stems, blanching, and wilting, that pile was still as big as your head. Crazy! But the family will eat them in soup form, and I consider that a yuuuuge win for me in my ongoing battle with the farm share.
I think Ave’s about ready to shake things up–once you think you’ve got this part down, it’s time for a new milestone and more growth and next thing you know, you’re scrambling again. Damn good thing she’s such a delightful kid.
(I can finally comment because I just got a new post up)
I accomplished . . . . well I worked and hosted my book group (Light Between Oceans–could have used a good editor to cut out some of the wonderful-but-extraneous descriptions). Survived driving with my girlie. Continued to help my folks get settled.

I’m scrambling now. She’s tossed her entire nap schedule out the window and I’m trying to keep up with the changes. Oh the joys of parenthood.
That sounds like one impressive batch of greens. I actually had some this weekend (collards though) with lots of garlic, tons of olive oil and some pinto beans for a punch of protein. Also they taste damn good. 🙂

That Alfred sauce would feed my soul! There is this place about an hour away from me that makes a vegan eggs Benedict and the Hollandaise sauce is just OH MY GOD fabulous! I told the owner that if he made me a batch I would use it in my next race 😛

Wash, rinse, repeat. I loved that life for as many years that I got away with it. Savor every second! Because next comes D.R.A.M.A!!!
Every child brings their own style of drama, so brace yourself. ESPECIALLY with a daughter. Please don’t fret about future possibilities because you can’t change it. It just happens.
But enjoy the now. No matter how mundane it seems. You will eventually be longing for the good days! My ‘kids’ are now 43, 39, 38, and 30. And I am 62. If we aren’t missing sleep worrying over son number one, the rebel, then we are up worrying over our last child, who is gay, a whole new idea for us! Love is love for a parent and is good in that it challenges every republican old fashioned ideals we were raised with. No longer Republican! We find we are very much more flexible than we ever thought!
lLove is love! Ha, I’ve gone way off topic! Guess the idea is that as mundane as seems NOW, Buckle your seatbelt is all I’m saying!
And love your child no matter what she puts u through.

I am looking forward to the sweetpotato chips recipe. Mine never really get crispy so I am curious how you make them.

The trick to the sweet potato chips is low and slow. Well that and i put them on cooling racks so the air can get them from all sides. Are you cooking sheets metal too? That might make a difference.
This comment made my day. 🙂

Oh she’s definitely flipping you off 😉 And you’re super lucky that she sleeps so well through the night. I was a nightmare when I was tiny, and one parent would always have to be up to carry me around and rock me to sleep every time I woke up during the night… which was often. I wouldn’t fall asleep if they just put me down, so it was constant supervision 😛 I was also extremely picky, and wouldn’t touch things like broccoli or eggs.

In the beginning, it seemed like she didn’t sleep at all. Now, she sleeps like a dream child at night and hardly at all during the day.
You missed out on the broccoli and eggs game, although truth be told, I was super picky as a baby too. I only ate a handful of foods and none of it was allowed to touch. I hope Ave isn’t like me in that regard. Wish me luck.

Your food!! I’m saving recipes now. This past two weeks I’ve started cooking dinners 4 nights a week and honestly all my extra time and energy has gone there. I’ve enjoyed it immensely but it’s much better when another adult is there to watch the monkey. Trying to watch her while I’m trying to cook is almost laughable. Like she’s laughing at me, not with me. I’m her puppet, what can I say. I’m cool with it. Aside from cooking I feel like we keep making great progress in some areas but then there are some blemishes in other areas. Her night sleeping is going well but she’s on the daytime nap strike. She’ll fall asleep if I put her in the stroller and go fir a walk or run, but dang sometimes I just wanna press a button that says auto pilot so I can chill while she snoozes. Oh well it’s all good in the hood. Your little monkey is just too cute. I just adore Her sweet face!!

Meghan says
Nap strikes are no fun, and I can relate to having a baby ONLY fall asleep in a stroller. In fact one time when we finally got her to sleep, I made the Hubby leave the stroller and the baby outside so she could continue to snooze. She has this freakish radar that tells her when the stroller or car seat has entered the house and immediately wakes up. The good news is even though we went through a horrible nap strike, it just as suddenly stopped and she napped like a dream. Granted that’s changed again but you’ll have some good sleep coming; for her that is. 🙂
