Currently: March 2017

March 30, 2017 by Meghan 20 Comments

Since we’re nearing the end of the month, it’s time to slip another Currently post into the mix. Instead of rambling on, as is my usual custom, I’m getting right to the point today. You’re welcome.

Current Book: I finished John Irving’s In One Person, about blurred sexual lines and transgendered love. How apropos for today’s political climate. If you’re an Irving fan and you support love is love is love, then you’ll enjoy this book. I certainly did. Now, I’m working on The Casual Vacancy by J.K. Rawling and so far, I’m really digging it.

Current Obsession: every since I got Amanda’s new cookbook, it’s muffin mania over here. I’ve made Banana Bread Muffins, Morning Glory Muffins, Double Blueberry Banana Muffins, and Apple Cinnamon Muffins; all in the past two weeks. I might have a problem.

Current Triumphs: I pampered myself with an hour long facial. It was magical, the heavens opened and the angels rejoiced.

Current Thankfulness: my mother has been in town the past few days helping out with the baby and in general making life easier. Hello facial.

Current Drink: water, which by some miracle keeps turning into wine. Clearly, I have a gift.

Current Food: homemade baked french fries. Sweet, white, golden, it doesn’t matter; the baby and I are in love.

Current Excitement: I got a new, used, car. It’s a Prius partially because I’m a hippie, but mainly because the last one saved the Hubby’s life two years ago. When you walk away from a wreck that has you sandwiched between a semi-truck and a snow plow, you show Toyota some love.

Current Needs: I need to sign up for my CSA season. The snippets of spring are making me crave those glorious veggies. I wouldn’t kick a summertime strawberry out of bed either.

Current Bane of Existence: the tiny human has been teething again. That, coupled with an eye procedure to open a blocked tear duct, have made things around here quite interesting as of late. Translation: shit’s been banana shorts.

Current Non-Guilty Pleasure: despite the madness, I’m fairly certain all of our problems could be solved with a good veggie burrito and some rice and beans. I didn’t turn down the complimentary chips and salsa either. Or the pitcher of margaritas for that matter.

Current Confession: this was my second dinner that evening. My first consisted of salad, ravioli, bread and chocolate cake. I have no regrets.

Current Mood: considering I had some “me time” this morning, Ave is napping (finally) and the Hubby gets off work early today, I’m on cloud nine or at least seven point five.

Your turn. What’s Currently going on in your world? Current book? Current obsession? Current confession?

Oh i am so glad your mom is around!!! and yay on the facial!!! i just had my hair… treated? basically i had all my white hairs covered up and a bit of a trim. it was an hour of bliss and it feels so nice to NOT see all the white mocking me 🙂 i confess that i can’t seem to read more than 1-5 pages a night before passing out. oh well, it’s ok by me. sleep is something i take as much of and whenever i can. there are no limits! i’m also glad you and Ave survived the eye procedure. poor sweet thing! can’t wait to see you both. and the cats. oh Lulu just cut her FIRST tooth!!! i’m squeeling with joy and exhaustion but mostly joy. seeing that first tooth is such a freaking miracle. i can’t help but feel i made that. i would love you to pour me some of your water ake wine 🙂

A facial sounds divine. Bummer about the teething and eye duct, though! Ave really does look adorable in the baby hospital gown, however, which is more than any adult can say. Also congratulations on the new ride! I’d say it sounds like a good balanced week. Haha!

She’s finally getting back to her usual self so we survived and hopefully life can return to normal (i.e. decent naps, night time wine 🙂 ).

The car is awesome. I really like it.

Seven point five. Ha ha ha! You have the best sayings. Ave looks so sweet in that little hospital garb. Poor little muffin. I’m so glad your mother in law is in town! I don’t think I’ve ever had a facial before. My skin is too far gone for me to spend money on it. I’d buy a mack massage over a facial any day! Now that I think about it… I should book one before I can’t lie down on my stomach anymore!!! Hmmm!!! That book you finished sounds really good. I listened to last week’s podcast episode by Ali Feller where she interviews her friend Chris who is a transexual man and WOW was it ever well done. He is so well-spoken and so articulate and explained everything so incredibly well. Loved it and I highly recommend it!

Yes, go get yourself a prenatal massage. Those were one of the few times I actually felt decent when I was pregnant, especially towards the end. This was only my second facial, and it was nice. You get a little shoulder and arm massage too, while they place hot towels on your face and wash it like a million times with who knows what. It was relaxing.

I will check out the Podcast. Thanks for the recommendation.

Ahhhh the spa angels! They love the gates of open pores. I’ve never had a for-real facial but I can imagine it would be ever so soothing. When Ave is a bit older maybe that can be a daughter-mom date for the both of you. Cucumbers and all. My mom and I used to get pedicures together.
Speaking of Moms – yay for yours being with you! I can sense the little added lightness from here. <3
Current obsession: Chocolate. Seriously so much chocolate.

We’ll probably do some at home facials and pedicures together for awhile. At least if she shows an interest in that stuff. Time will tell.

Chocolate is a good obsession to have. I’ll take some too.

I look forward to hearing your thoughts on The Casual Vacancy – I have debated reading it for a while now, hearing so many mixed reviews.
Fingers crossed that’s some of the craziness over for now and you can relax with some me time. Well, I know the teething is one for the long haul but I do hope the process goes with ease!
    Have a fab weekend lovely.

Teething is interesting (to put it mildly). You’ll have a couple of tough days (cranky and irritable) and then it’s back to normal. At least that’s how it is with us, so she was mainly back to rights this whole week. Thank goodness, because those few days were tough.

I’ll let you know about The Casual Vacancy. I’m about a third of the way through and I’m really enjoying it. It’s intriguing and well written.

Excellent choice of vehicle! I swear by my Yota, it’s the best everrrr. I have a coupon for $15 off a facial and I’m thinking about trying it. I just don’t want garbage on my face.

YES on the veggie burrito with rice & beans – always a winner in my book! And I feel like I’m always a muffin making maniac. I like to make a batch at the beginning of the week to have around as a snack during the week. YUM.

I just finished reading What Alice Forgot last week on a cross country flight, and I really enjoyed it! I love when I get into a good book and look forward to getting time to read it.

I’m actually going to make muffins for Ave’s birthday this weekend and just throw some whipped cream on top. I figure she doesn’t need a sugar bob just yet. Also who wants to spend their birthday party with a tummy ache.

I’ll add What Alice Forgot to my book list. I’m a huge nerd when it comes to reading. Love, love, love.

Holy sh- I didn’t know J was in a car crash – that’s literally my worst nightmare. I knew 2 people who passed away in car crashes last year and it really set off my anxiety. I can’t even imagine how awful that must have been to find out about. You must be SO grateful he walked away ok. <3 Also you should ask Toyota for commission because I think I'm going to talk my J into getting a Prius for his next car now lol.

On a lighter note, my current obsessions are V8 juice (so random but I've had weird cravings for it lately) and popcorn.

Probably because it was a couple of years ago and he came out of it completely fine. Thank goodness and go Toyota. I love my Prius.

Stefan and I are so crazy about homemade french fries. We make them for dinner at least once a week 😀
I am craving muffins now. I am so tired today. I am having coffee now and I would love to have a muffin with it. Maybe I am going to buy me one tomorrow.
Buuut apart from everything I don’t do (like baking muffins) I read a book last month. A novel, totally not for work just for pleasure. It was wonderful!

I’m thinking french fries will be on the menu tonight. 🙂

I want coffee all the time. I keep trying to balance it with extra water so basically I’m peeing all day long. TMI. 🙂
