Week in Review: Last Week’s Bananas (#79)

April 17, 2017 by Meghan 40 Comments

Get your pads and pens ready because it’s time for the Week In Review.

The Week In Review is a list, in its purest form, not of the things you still need to do, but of all the things you have done in the last seven days. It’s an achievement list, an ode to yourself, a celebration of sorts, and a virtual pat on the back or smack on the ass. Wink, wink, nudge, nudge.

Need more details? Head here.

♫ You can do it, put your list into it. ♫

Let’s get listing:

Last week was bananas and here’s why:

Ave is transitioning from two to one nap a day, which basically means nap time has become a battle ground with the tiny dictator dominating. As such, I’ve spent more hours than I care to admit driving her around in the car so she can catch some zzz’s. We’ve also had lots of late night/middle of the night parties. Sigh.

Translation: I’ve barely touched my computer, much less the blog and showers have gone by the wayside. Hygiene, schmiegene.

On the plus side, my mom was in town over the weekend and she brought me ramps, so between my unwashed flesh and those glorious garlicky greens, my house smells lovely. Cough, cough.

Another positive, Ave had a friend in town at the beginning of the week. Danielle and Lulu (Belle) came all the way up from Texas to visit, and it was lovely. We hit up the park, the Cleveland Zoo (on free Monday….never again, it was a total zoo, pun intended), and ate all the Indian food.

Ave went to grandma and grandpa’s house on Thursday for six solid hours. This is the longest we’ve ever been separated, and it was really good for both of us. We’ve got some co-dependent issues. We’re working on ’em though. Baby steps.

I’d love to tell you I spent those hours relaxing and pampering myself, but not so much. I hit up the grocery store, the bank, the post office, the gas station, the UPS store, and our local nursery for flowers. I also did some light cleaning and folded the mountain of clean clothes we had accumulated in the guest bedroom.

The other fairly huge thing that happened was we hosted twenty people for Easter dinner. It was a ton of work and worth it. It was great spending time with family and it felt fantastic to get back in the kitchen again.

You know I had to end with the tiny human.

On that note, it’s your turn. I’d love to hear from you. Link up and get yo’ list on.

That dress!!!! When the Charlie and the twins are in school I always say I’ll rest and then I do the thousand things that need doing and think, now I’ll sit down, and then look at the clock and it’s time to pick them up. But sometimes hitting the to-do list gives you mental rest because you don’t have to think about it anymore.

It was all stuff that needed to be done, especially since we were hosting Easter and being solo on those errands was so much simpler. Basically, worth it. This week though, I may get a massage. 🙂

That Easter dress though <3 It sounds like a great week, minus the whole nap boycott part but I 'm glad to hear you hung in there and ended the week with a bang (I mean who needs showers anyway?). Speaking of smelly things I'm pretty sure I found some ramps in our yard when we were picking up our fence this weekend and I immediately thought of you. I'm not sure I would trust ours to eat but I still thought it was cool that they were there.

I don’t know what’s happening to me…but I’m obsessed with your tiny human. NO! This cannot happen. She is just too damn cute. Also, I find that getting a ton of errands done IS relaxing. It’s like a weight off my shoulders and I feel awesome checking things off the list, as I know you do too. So those 6hrs were well spent! Now go take a shower, I can smell you from here.

You got to hang out with Danielle and Lulu!?! I’m so jealous! That would have been a ball – for all the girls of all ages. You are the ultimate host Meg. Wow. That spread. And that cake!! Well done! I made your scalloped potatoes last night for Dan and I. I told him I was making some and he scowled – apparently (little did I know) he’s never liked scalloped potatoes. But I said – too bad, you’ll change your mind after these ones. And he did. He loovvveeeddd them.

Yay, so glad you had a 6 hour break but isn’t it lame how we panic about what we’re going to use the time for? I end up running around like a chicken with its head cut off rather than napping or relaxing. Good luck with the nap transition. Kids are naughty little things!

Also I’m getting 6 hours again on Thursday. I might sit on the couch and do nothing all day long.

That last photo made me instantly forget all about the last year of rough spots you’ve had! But, isn’t that just like a baby? Actually it is true of children of all ages. They do things that irritate you even in their 40’s, only at that age, we parents need to bite our tongues. Hold our opinions….and never, ever say, “wow, I thought we raised you better!” Nope, we accept them and choose the love, because even though they piss us off, disappoint us at times, they also soften it which a hug and an “Love you guys”. Just like Ave’s sweet adorableness three in that photo and we forget. Love is great that way! It’s the great grudge eraser! Thankful for that! There will be many more struggles, then the winning your heart over ..again and again, forever, that erases them all! Happy Easter!

Yep, you are dead nuts accurate. Some days she can make me absolutely crazy and then one minute later she does the sweetest thing that makes me forget it all. Parenting is an emotional roller coaster for sure. A good one though.

I hope Ave’s transitioning doesn’t take too long anymore. Those middle of the night parties don’t sound fun!
But she looks super cute in her little frilly dress <3
Hope you get to rest a bit more and find some time to pamper yourself this week. You deserve it!

Ave’s Easter dress! She’s a bit of a princess, no? Some part rascal playing in maybe ;). Also grandpa’s darling – that picture is so cute.
The naptime struggles don’t sound quite that cute, though. Looks like Ace heard the same thing my parents told me – you’re allowed to stay up longer once you’re older; they totally enabled my night owlishness 😉 – and decided one was old enough to cut down on naps fast. Maybe argue with her that one-year-olds might be fine getting just one nap but mums are not? Whew. I’ll be keeping my fingers crossed for you here!
Look at you still pulling off an Easter dinner for 20 people despite sleep deprivation! And an impressive and delicous-looking spread at that.
I hope this week has been better – sleep-wise – for you so far!
