I told you I’d be back.

Cue creepy music and a currently post. It’s time to catch up because we haven’t spoke candidly in a long while. Grab some coffee, a cocktail, a cocktail wiener (ok that last one is just weird) and let’s hit it.

Current Book: here’s a nod to the books I read in 2018. Forty in all; not too shabby if I do say so myself and I totally do. Besides, the Outlander books are like 1,000 pages each, so they should count as multiples. If you look at it that way, I probably read like 80 books. Go me.

(I love lists.)

Current Drink: smoothies. The tiny human and I have been making and consuming them on a near daily basis. Peanut butter chocolate is her favorite, although I’m partial to the fruit filled concoctions.

Current Food: all the veggies. Since the middle of December, I’ve been making it a point to up the nutritional value of my edibles. Spinach, cauliflower, asparagus, broccoli, and carrots are on constant rotation with the occasional artichoke or potato thrown in for good measure.

Artichokes with Lemon Butter Sauce

Pictorial Guide on cooking Artichokes with Lemon Butter Sauce

Current Non-Guilty Pleasure: saying good-bye to the Week in Review link up.

Current Confession: honestly, I’ve been phoning that blog post in for months now. It was high time to step back and say ba-bye. Sorry I had to put you through all that.

Current Bane of Existence: I’m officially on a diet, like counting calories kind of diet. I hate it, but I dislike the excess weight I’ve been carrying for three years even more. (Note: I weigh more now than when I was 9 months pregnant, so yeah it’s time for a change) The first few days of counting were absolute hell, but I’m starting to get a handle on it, and some days, I even have room for wine. Thank god because parenting a toddler without booze is daunting.

Cauliflower Chickpea Avocado Salad(I’ve been eating this Cauliflower Chickpea Salad on repeat. Thank goodness I like my veggies.)

Current Excitement: I’ve successfully dropped six pounds in the past four weeks, which is a reasonable and healthy weight loss. Y’all know how I feel about fad fixes and restriction diets so this is hugely important to me. While I am counting every morsel (grumble, grumble), I’m making sure I enjoy life too, and I’m already looking forward to the day, I can switch back to maintenance mode and stop crunching numbers.

Current Obsession: aside from the whole calorie counting thing, I’m in love with my 2019 planner. Structure and planning gives me the warm fuzzies, even when I do fill in the wrong week (oops).

Current Needs: the calendar to roll back about four months so I can share these Apple Sage Cheddar biscuits without being ridiculously out of season.

(They’re so fluffy!!!!!!)

Current Blessing: everything. I have my health, my husband, my family, my business. Sure there are days any number of those things makes me bonkers, especially the tiny human who peed all over the floor last night, but at the end of the day and a mopping session later, I know I’m beyond fortunate.

Current Mood: happy. Life is good.

Your turn. What’s Currently going on in your world? Current book? Current confession? Catch me up on your happenings.

LOVE the Current Mood. Sometimes we just need to step back and look at our lives and see what we actually have.

I’ve been FOOD COMBINING the past few months and feel great. Good Luck!

I’ve read some stuff about food combining. It’s intriguing and it also sounds like a whole ton of work. I’m glad you’re feeling great.

Thank God (for real! You answered my last nights prayer! β€œPlease God, let Meghan post tomorrow’s it’s been MONTHS already and I miss her! Forgive my drama. I have a lot going on right now

Wonderful news on your weight loss! I too hate the idea of an actual diet, in the way that you describe it. However, I do believe that one is necessary at times, just to bring our brains back into reality of reasonable portions are, and how a better portion feels in our stomachs.

Especially after having a baby and nursing for a long time. We need a bit more at that time. And dealing with stressful transitions from working away from home without children, to being surrounded all day with a ready supply of snacks, even healthy picks, and a fussy infant and often exuberant, sometimes defiant toddler! Not to mention some people, most people, love good food. I can’t keep anything in jars on the counters for β€˜instant energy’! Who in the world can dip in and just have 6 nuts? For the whole day! Besides my husband, lol! I keep all of that tucked out of sight. Cheese especially is in the back of the fridge where I am less likely to notice it.

I typically never lost pregnancy weight until my kids were in preschool 5 half days a week. They enjoyed Montessori and I went straight to the gym. And counted calories for a good 6 months, relearning how to eat well, consuming less of everything and planning better for myself, which was better for them also! They came home at 11:30 tired and took a nap! Or were in bed by 7pm.

Your smoothie looks refreshing and healthy and brings whispers of spring being not too far off. I need to get out my blender. I have just been grazing Amazon for books to occupy my restless mind.

There is no way I could keep up with your wild count of reads! I think I’ve probably read about 25 in 2018. Can’t say I enjoyed each one tremendously but once I start, I stubbornly refuse to waste my money and try to push through.

Omigosh you can share those cheddar biscuits any time! They look amazing! That is a good amount of reading, lady, way to go. I’m currently reading Margaret Atwood Life Before Man and I’m really liking it. It’s set in my home city so it’s fun to read about places I know but in a fictional way. I used to be a huuge reader but haven’t found anything that’s gripped me much fiction-wise since having Squish so I’m totally enjoying getting immersed in this book πŸ™‚

Getting immersed in a book is one of my favorite things with puzzles following closely thereafter.

I think in my case, the calorie counting is a necessary evil right now. At least until I’m back on track. Besides I’d rather count calories than restrict entire food groups.

I didn’t make a list of the books I read last year. I wish I had because I totally upped my reading game last year and it made me so happy. But I have my 2019 list ready and have already zoomed through 3 books! Currently reading through the Isabel Dalhousie series by Alexander McCall Smith and they are wonderful books. He is a fantastic writer!
