I am so frickin excited it’s Friday. By the way, Urban Dictionary defines frickin as “an alternative for those of us too classy to use the word “Fucking,” which is perfect for me because even though I like to curse, I’m still super classy, especially when bananas are involved.
Back to it being Friday, I worked thirteen hours again yesterday, so I’m extra glad the end of the week is in sight, and I can go back to focusing on important things like getting the required eight hours of sleep and eating fabulous food. Perhaps if I play my cards right, I can even sneak out of the office early today. Fingers crossed, although my sneaky ninja skills feel strong today, so we may not need those superstitious phalanges.
Since it is Friday, and I’ve got nothing prepared (oops), no Strange But Good, no Farmer’s Market finds, I thought I’d share a survey instead. They’re quick, easy and right up my alley, in a banana eating kind of way.
Before I get there though, I have to mention my Week In Review link up party going down on Monday. Yes, this coming Monday, so don’t be shy. Feel free to do multiple link ups at the same time; it’ll be like a ménage a trois. Now the real reason I’m plugging this is I had pretty dismal attendance at my last link up party, aside from Jessie Bear and Alex, who rocked out with their link ups out. I could weep buckets of salty tears over this or throw in the towel, but I’m not ready to do either one yet. So I’m going to give it another shot and see what happens. Be there or be square. Pretty please with an organic, GMO free and locally sourced cherry on top.
First Thing Survey
- First thing you do when you wake up in the morning. I brush my teeth and then I head downstairs to feed my three cats, who by now are raging maniacs. Meal time is an event in our house, more like a three-ring circus. Max, my OCD cat, does laps around the kitchen island, while I get his food ready. Oscar, the newest addition to the family, taunts Max who is most definitely not amused. Sam, my only girl, graciously waits in the other room while all this madness takes place. Here’s a short video, albeit one of the tamer ones, and I have no idea how to post a video, so I hope this works.
- First thing you reach for when you open the fridge. Almond milk to add to my morning cup of coffee, which takes place as soon I’ve got the felines fed.
- First thing you do when you get to the gym. Since I go to the gym on my lunch hour, the first thing I do when I get there is change out of my fancy pants suit and into my grubby workout gear. Then I head to whatever fitness class is going down that day.
- First thing you do when you get home from work. This is the same as the morning: I feed the cats. When I get home, I do not pass go, I do not collect $200, but I definitely feed my felines, who once again are behaving like raging maniacs.
- First car. The Hubby actually bought me my first used car. It was fast, black and flawed, and we of course bought it in “as is” condition. The first night I officially owned it, it peed gas all over the driveway.
- First car accident / traffic violation. My first traffic violation was for a blown tail light, but my very first accident was traumatic. While exiting a parking lot, I tapped (no joke) the car in front of me. I’m talking maybe five miles an hour and some bumper on bumper action, but the other driver who was an older gentleman freaked out and started yelling at me, threatening a lawsuit and complaining of fraudulent injuries. I couldn’t have been more than twenty years old, and I was petrified. My insurance company ended up paying for this miserly man to go to the doctor and two auto repair shops in order to prove he and his car were completely fine. Needless to say, it wasn’t my favorite experience. Moral of the story. Accidents happen; don’t be a douche about them.
- First thing you wanted to be when you grew up. Growing up I wanted to be an archeologist, but then I found out it was a dirty job (literally), my nails would suffer tremendously, and who knows where I would sleep while on location, so I gave up the dream.
- First beverage of choice. Despite my champagne loving ways, my first beverage of choice will always be water. If I’m feeling frisky, I’ll throw in some lemon slices, cucumber or get crazy with my Aqua Zinger.
- First choice breakfast. Something, anything with eggs. An omelette, huevos, fried, scrambled; it doesn’t matter, I love me some eggs.
- First choice dessert. Anything with fruit really: an apple pie, a fruit tart, lemon squares. The fruitier, the better.
- First major purchase. My first major purchase was with the Hubby. We decided to throw caution to the wind and bought our first house together one year after graduating from college. We were still unwed and therefore living in sin, according to our parents who were extremely supportive nonetheless. We figured we might as well get some equity for our sinful ways.
- First job. My first tax paying job was working for Brand Names, a catalogue retail store. I took people’s orders, gave them their products, and rang them out. I collected a check every week, and I was seventeen, so it worked.
- First time you flew on a plane. I don’t remember traveling on a plane at all when we were kids. If we went somewhere, it was always close enough to drive. As an adult, my first plane ride was in college on spring break, where I went to Jamaica with my girlfriends. Talk about trouble and one of my favorite vacations. This is not my picture, but oh how I wish I was there.
And that my friends is the First Things First survey. I hope to see you all on Monday for the Week In Review link up. For more info on how and why you should participate, click here. In the meantime, Happy Friday.
Now I want to hear from you. Tell me some of your firsts. Answer any of the survey questions above.
Stacey Belasic says
Happy Friday! Fun post! I couldn’t view the video 🙁 but feline feeding time at my house is always a production as well so I can only imagine how entertaining the video is!
Hope you can get outta work early today!! Have a great weekend!
Meghan says
Boo Hiss. Try watching it on your computer at home. It might work there. I’ll have to work on my video skills too.
I ended up working through lunch (in attempts to leave early), and I was out the door by four so it was an eight hour day anyway. But, I did sleep almost 12 hours last night so that’s great. Plus you made my day yesterday with your rice and beans. I can’t wait to share them.
Stacey Belasic says
OMG i’m laughing my butt off! Was able to watch the video at home! Looks so familiar! I think they MUST put crack in that canned food! You are so evil–tormenting them with all those extra scrapes against the can! LOL!!!!!!!
SUCKS you’ve been so busy at work! Glad you got some solid sleep last night! i was out drinkin me some dirty martinis, extra dirty with blue cheese stuffed olives–omg, heaven!!!
Glad I made your day with my rice and beans! They made a few of my days since the recipe made so much! Haha!!
Have a great weekend!!!! I’m off to get a long overdue mani & pedi! Woot woot!!!!
Meghan says
Woot woot is right! That sounds like heaven, right down to the dirty martini’s. I need to book myself a massage and a pedicure pronto.
All those extra scraps isn’t to torment them (really, I swear). It’s to get every last drop because Max always thinks he is going to starve so I want to make sure he gets every possible morsel.
Have a great weekend.
Allie says
Ooo ooo, I’m already putting together my post for Monday! And JAMAICA! I’m ready to go back.
Also, eggs rock. But I think I have my meals confused, because I keep having them for lunch (and cold chicken for breakfast…man, I’m on a weird food timing kick). Already planning my noontime scrambled eggs. Hmm, if I call it “brunch,” I can totally justify adding a mimosa…
Meghan says
Ooo ooo, I’m glad you’re working on something; that makes me happy, and if you go back to Jamaica, let me know because I’m crashing your vacation!
I actually usually end up eating my eggs for lunch or dinner too. I’m not hungry right away so they almost always come later.
P.S. I think you should have the mimosa, no justification needed. It’s noon somewhere.
Hannah @ CleanEatingVeggieGirl says
Those eggs look SO good! You are definitely speaking my language :).
Meghan says
I heart eggs!!
Jessie says
Well this was fun. I mean I got to learn more about you!!!!! =) First thing I do in the morning… roll over and tell (sometimes yell if he’s in deep sleep) to wake up!!! =)
Meghan says
Yeah, there was a whole of sharing in this post.
Next time, give Joshua a big old push, but don’t tell him I said that. 🙂
Khushboo says
Loved reading your answers and learning more about you! First thing I do at the gym is put my trainers on- to keep the gym floor clean, it’s recommended to not wear our trainers outdoors!
Meghan says
Thanks!! Are trainers sneakers? I have a specific pair of gym sneakers which stay there 24/7. In fact, I don’t think I’ve ever wore them outside.
Eating 4 Balance says
It seems that I have a bad habit of reading posts and then forgetting to comment. Ha.
Well, I love this survey and don’t be surprised when I use it fairly soon. I’m still enamored with your Zinger bottles by the way. Those things rock. And I’m the same way with dessert. My favorite desserts- blueberry muffins or apple pumpkin muffins (I also have an affinity for muffins apparently) are chocked full of fruit. Just awesome.
And I was kind of hoping that that last picture was yours because that place is so beautiful. Wherever it is, I want to be there like…. NOW.
Meghan says
I couldn’t agree more. After that lovely 60 degree and sunny weekend, I’m struggling with being catapulted back into cold, rainy and forty. I need to be somewhere tropical.
The Zinger are amazing. I actually gave them to all my employees as gifts last Christmas because I thought (and still think) the product was that awesome.
Jess @ JessieBear What Will You Wear says
Link ups are really hard to start up! Experiencing the same thing with my Together Tuesday one.
Meghan says
Hmmm we need to combine forces or something.
Hope you are having a great weekend.
Lisa @ Lisa the Vegetarian says
Wow, that first traffic accident sounds very traumatic and I would have been freaked out by something like that too! I’m usually a pretty nervous driver as it is, so having something like that happen so early in my driving experience would definitely not have helped.
Meghan says
It was horrible. I called my Husband (boyfriend at the time) and started bawling immediately. Like big choking can barely talk sobs. And I’m not a nervous driver at all, so I hope nothing like that every happens to you. I take it you’ve never been in an accident then?
Brittany says
BAHAH YES!! Wait so is Max the black kitty!?!? I want your cats!! Also, what is that aquazinger?! I suppose I should just click the link..
Meghan says
Yep, Max is my oldest. He’s all black and looks just like your frisky feline. He is also certifiable; 100% nuts over food. He thinks he’s going to starve to death. The Aqua Zinger is amazing my friend. Basically it’s infused water with whatever you feel like infusing it with. Pears and blueberries are awesome, so are raspberries and cucumber. If you like water, you need one of these.
Fran@BCDC says
I love the survey, Meghan. I may borrow that when I’m finished the A to Z challenge. I keep trying to get in with the week in review, but it hasn’t worked yet. Have a great Sunday!
Meghan says
It’s all yours Fran. I think surveys are fun and a good way to learn more about one another. Hopefully you’ll be able to join the WIR link up soon.
kirsten@FarmFreshFeasts says
I want your kitchen. You could fit a couple of my kitchens in your kitchen, though Simon would probably want to rumble with the cats.
1. Brush my teeth and start water for tea.
2. Grab half and half for said tea. And shake it up to make it frothy.
3. I walk the dog or get on the Reformer in the basement. No gym.
4. Take off my shoes.
5. Hyundai Excel.
6. Hmmm . . .
7. Marine Biologist.
8. Tea, hot, usually Lady Grey, with a good amount of half and half, or cream.
9. Something eaten closer to lunchtime.
10. A Salted Caramel Killer Brownie from DLM.
11. see #5.
12. Baskin Robbins
13. When I was 6 months old we moved to Maryland and I think we flew there. Heck, my daughter flew when she was 3 weeks old–to a wedding in Nebraska, and my son flew at 4 weeks–he was born in Hawaii and we didn’t live there.
Meghan says
You are welcome to cook in my kitchen anytime. It’s actually my favorite room in the entire house. When we moved in, we gutted it and redid it completely from scratch.
A marine biologist sounds pretty cool and a salted caramel brownie sounds killer right about now.
Hayley @ Running on Pumpkin says
Your cats sound exactly like my dogs. They are always priority in the morning/when I get home because they are maniacs when they aren’t fed…and we give them rotisserie chicken (aka they are spoiled beyond belief).
Meghan says
Rotisserie chicken; they must love that! Fancy, fancy. Then again, we love the buggers don’t we. Why else would we spoil them so?
Thanks for stopping by and saying hello.
Alex @ Brain, Body, Because says
AquaZinger! I have never heard of this before, but it does look magical. It reminds me of the aguas frescas that we drank in Mexico City. nom!!
Meghan says
Aguas frescas…educate me please. The mere name sounds appealing, and the Aqua Zinger is amazing. I also have the Citrus ZInger too and there’s another one for salad dressings which I don’t own….yet. I highly recommend the Aqua Zinger though.
kristy @ gastronomical sovereignty says
A of all: haha…phalanges…
B of all: I NEED THAT WATER BOTTLE! Where did you get it?!
C of all:
1. Pee. And then stumble into the kitchen and whip back the curtains. Let the sun shine in baby!
2. Yogurt usually. Or cream for the coffee.
3. Bee-line it for the change room because I have to walk through a sweaty-dude-ridden weight room and they all stare. Even if I blunder my way in lookin’ awful. It’s creepy. And eyeball the elliptical to see if there’s room for my ass on one machine.
4. Take off my pants. I hate pants. Oh wait, I work from home now. Open a bottle of wine.
5. Never owned a vehicle. Does my high-school boyfriend’s pick up truck count? I spent a lot of time in there.
6. heh – um. I must have been 17 or 18? Certain “things” were goin’ down in the front seat and he crashed into a snow-covered center meridian on the highway. Luckily it was mostly a snow drift at that point and we were only going about 70 KM/hr.
7. Singer. Until my Dad told me “you need talent for that”.
8. Like you, I dig water. Cucumber water. But a cup of Aveda Tea or a glass of big fat complex red wine will do too.
9. Breakfast in: I like my vector cereal with yogurt and berries. Breakfast out: a potato egg hash with some kind of rich meat – like shortrib. I know, I’m a breakfast high roller.
10. Like you – anything with fruit. Or cinnamon – like churros.
11. Probably my PC laptop computer. That I had for 10 years. Count ’em! 10!!! Now I have a mac and it’s delightful.
12. Babysitter. Ow ow! And grocery bag packing girl. God, I was redneck white trash. haha…
13. To Cuba with my family; On my own, to my new city of residence (many years before it became so) Toronto!
THAT was fun! Now I have to work….
Meghan says
You can get any of the Zingers at Zing Anything, which is the most amazing water bottle company ever and they are local to my area so I heart them. I also heart your answers, especially the dirty ones where you were hanging out in the pickup truck. I’m also so jealous you went to Cuba!
Heather @ Kiss My Broccoli says
“Pretty please with an organic, GMO free and locally sourced cherry on top.” <- Well how in the hell do you expect me to say no to THAT?! Sorry I haven't been joining up lately…I've definitely thought about it, but just couldn't seem to get with the program! I will definitely be there (hopefully with bells) this Monday…now to just remember what I did last week! Early onset Alzheimer's much? Yeah…
I love your survey! It's so much fun to learn little tidbits about all my bloggy friends! I for sure thought you'd go with something chocolatey on the whole dessert thing, but the fact that you picked fruit made me love you even more than I already do (which I didn't think was actually possible!). I think my first pick on dessert though would have to be froyo…and we both know actual fruit never quite makes it to the show on that one…not really sure if Fruity Pebbles count! 😉
And dude, I had the same thing happen to me in an accident I had a few months ago…it didn't make the blog because there was no way I was going to give the lady any satisfaction with me dwelling on the matter, but let's just say…it's been 5 months now and the insurance company is STILL dealing with it! Oh, and I was maybe going like 10 miles an hour when I bumped her! OMG I hate people!
Meghan says
It’s horrible, right. Accidents happen all the time, no need to spazz out about it. Geesh; I’m sorry you went through something similar.
At the end of the day, fruit is my one true love…and peanut butter, but really fruit.
