Week In Review: The Twenty First Edition

It’s amazing to me just how quickly weekends fly by. It’s not right really, and I wish I had a magic wand where I could slow down time and also manage to get an extra hour or two of sleep, per night of course. Hell, I just wish I had a magic wand, maybe covered in something sparkly and one wave of it would grant me an additional hour a day. Ah, the things I could do in that hour, like my nails, which I swore I was going to do this weekend. More time would be a beautiful thing because it means I can make more lists, accomplish more stuff, cross more things off of said lists, and then recap it for all of you. Aren’t you lucky? Or maybe I’m just selfish. Or perhaps not since I want to share the fun. Come and join the link up party and Get Your List On (it sounds kinda hot right? Just me…hmmm).

The Week In Review is a list, in its purest form, not of the things you still need to do, but of all the things you have done in the past seven days. It’s an achievement list and one with the sole purpose of bringing pleasure, and really who doesn’t like pleasure?

Want in? Here’s how, in list form because it’s only fitting.

The Week In Review Link Up Rules (Dun, Dun, Dun):

  • Your post should be about all the things you accomplished in the last seven days. I share all my goings on starting on Monday and proceeding through Sunday, but you can pick your own date range because let’s be real, I’d have no way to know if you veered off course. Besides, veering off course can be fun, and far be it from me to stop the fun.
  • Your post can be about food, social outings, workouts, home improvement projects, fun excursions, none of the above, or all of the above. The idea is to recognize all the things you accomplished in the past seven days. It’s an ode to yourself, a celebration of sorts, and a virtual pat on the back. Plus you get to write in list form, which rocks my socks. Although if you want to stick to prose go ahead; it’s your world.
  • You’ll be able to link up starting on Monday morning, and the link up will stay open until Friday night.
  • Add the Week in Review button to your post, and link back to Clean Eats, Fast Feets.

Enough about the rules. Let’s get back to me. Er, I mean let’s get listing.

  • I made granola because I always make granola. It’d be weird if a week went by, and I didn’t get to play with some nuts (insert raised eyebrow here). This latest batch was Orange Cranberry Granola with pecans and sliced almonds. Recipe to come soon because I know you all like to play with nuts too.

Orange Cranberry Granola

  • I visited the West Side Market, which is a Cleveland landmark and foodie heaven. If you like food (and really who doesn’t?), and you are ever in the Cleveland area, the West Side market is for you. Go there and be prepared to swoon.
  • I picked up my very first CSA share (squeals with delight), and I will be revealing more of that green goodness in the near future. I’ll give you a hint. Salads are very in right now, and I am super hip. Obviously.
  • I started a pot garden, and despite my most recent trip to Amsterdam, I’m talking about tomatoes and hot peppers. I’m not sure what you were thinking. Dirty birdie.

  • In anticipation of a banana loving Southern house guest, which really are the best kind, I cleaned the entire house from the top down last week. Confession, I didn’t clean the basement. Instead I roped it off like an investigation because nothing says “welcome to my home,” like crime scene tape or maybe I just skipped that part of the tour.
  • I made risotto for the first time, drank some more beets, and paired some of my fresh farmers market strawberries with lemon ricotta. Talk about a perfect spring dessert. I’ll take four please.

  • Speaking of fours, I worked out four times last week. I shall list them (of course) in the order they were achieved, which trumps alpha today: a mixed martial arts class, weight lifting (Beefcake), a hot yoga class (holy sweat batman), and a three mile run through the park, which isn’t too shabby for a non-runner. Feel free to do a little booty shake in my honor. I sure did.
  • I had a heart to heart with my cat Max and set down some boundaries. I’m sure he understood perfectly and will behave as expected from here forward because cats are great listeners. Everyone knows that.

Max Conversation

  • I went to a farmers market. Yes, this was in addition to picking up my weekly CSA share and going to the West Side Market. My name is Meghan, and I’m a fresh, local, produce loving-aholic. I can’t help myself; it’s a compulsion.
  • I also went to the Botanical Gardens and then spent some time acting like a lounge lizard with this pretty lady because as much fun as doing stuff can be, chilling is pretty sweet too. Especially when you’re chillin’ like a villain.

    Your week always seems so much more like fun than mine. I need to correct that! Strawberries and Lemon Ricotta? Oh, boy…yes, please! More working out needs to be in my future. Now that the weather is warmer (although now it’s rainy!) I need to get out walking in the A. M. Have a great day, Meghan!

      Exercise always seems easier and better to do when the weather is nicer. It’s so easy and refreshing to go for a walk, especially if you get to do it with Ralph.

    Hooray for the CSA! Can’t wait to see what you have!
    I have one pot plant and it is indoors right now….Yours look a lot happier than my mint. I will have to revisit his set up : )

      Mint is great herb to have, especially in the summer time. You can add it water, watermelon salad, a lovely summer cocktail, the list goes on and on.

This looks like so much fun all the stuff you did on your list, even if some of it was cleaning and work..I love cleaning and work! I also want to go to that foodie mecca with you.

      So the Max picture was literally for you and Alex at Brain Body Because. He did go after a loaf of bread this weekend, but he knocked over a water glass in the process (getting sloppy in his old age), which alerted me to his shanangians and allowed me to save the bread.

    Such a cute picture of Max 🙂 I am jealous of all your eats, risotto and lemon ricotta with strawberries?! Plus all that beautiful green salad and other CSA goodies (that I cannot wait to see!)

    We need to get our fridge at the new place hooked up soon so I can buy real groceries otherwise I may damage my computer with all the drool your post is causing!

    There should be no shame in loving local, fresh produce so much!! Can’t wait to see what you found in your CSA share. Our farmer’s market just opened for the season this weekend, but I didn’t have time to stop by. Next week!

    I really like reading your WIR posts–makes me feel all warm and squishy inside to vicariously celebrate your accomplishments. I demand the strawberry lemon ricotta recipe ASAP since apparently the chipmunks have better things to do than harvest my strawberry patch, so we’re actually getting bowls full of berries every couple of days. I’ve put some up! The chipmunks are just *&^%in with me, I am sure, since they defeated the netting and all my defenses last year without a pause. This year I said @#$%^ it, stuck the Certified Wildlife sign in the yard and let them have at it. Which means of course that they don’t want it? Must be like cats in that respect.

    Haha! I love that you went through three different routes to obtain all your fresh, local goodies! That is so something I would do! Of course, I’ve been pretty proud of myself lately, getting everything I need in ONE trip…and? I haven’t bought anything from the grocery store (besides a carton of almond milk yesterday morning) in…are you ready for this? THREE WEEKS!!! I know, can you believe it?! And I’m making quite the dent in my pantry…who knows, by the end of the summer, I may be able to see a shelf or two! Hello, my name is Heather and I own enough food to feed a family of four for the rest of the year (at least). #firstworldproblems :-/

    PS: I’m totally jealous of Allie’s visit! I want to be lazy with my favorite crazy!! 😉

      I am super impressed. THREE WEEKS. My god, you’re my hero, and you are welcome to be lazy with my kind of crazy anytime. You could even help me do some damage on my pantry.
      P.S. I just picked up week two of my CSA, and I have four bundles of lettuce in my fridge right now (technically three and half), so I need to get on that shit!

    So, I was preeeeetty sure I actually commented yesterday, but then I had a sneaking suspicion that I’d closed out of my browser without actually hitting that “post comment” button…and it seems like my suspicions are confirmed. Attention span, what? So let’s try again.

    I had mostly popped over to say that I love when you play with nuts, because that was some fabulous granola. And that Max can get in all the trouble he wants, because cats that tackle loaves of bread (and flop in my lap during GoT) have a special place in my heart. And that I wish I had half the chillin’ skills of that chameleon. He was on that branch, he was owning it, and he was going nowhere any time soon.

    I think we’ll be driving past Cleveland this summer. I might have to convince my parents to make a pit stop at that market.
    Oooh, how did your risotto turn out? What kind was it? Risotto is one of my top comfort foods. It’s right up there with mac and cheese. Yummm…

    WHY have I not seen this before?!? I’m totally linking up next week!
    Although I will say that this week I figured out that all beverages taste better when drank from a jelly jar and accomplished turning 3 tall mandarin orange jars into drinking glasses using nothing but steel wool and true grit to get the sticky sticky sticker off.
    I COULD have mowed the lawn – but whatever. Jelly Jar Drinking Glasses!

      True grit gets it every time, and I am a huge fan of the jelly jar drinking glasses. Most of my “water” glasses are old and empty (obviously) peanut butter jars.
