July was a crazy month.
We had all kinds of family in town. We entertained multiple weekends in a row. We attended over the top anniversary parties, and then we went on vacation for a week straight. Can you say spoiled rotten?
Suffice to say, I’m pretty sure I haven’t worked a full forty hour week in almost a month, and it’s been just as long since the Hubby and I were the sole occupants of our house; excluding the three cats of course, and as vocal as they can be, I’d be hard pressed to exclude them. Seriously Oscar, the baby of the bunch, is a complete and total whiner. I didn’t think it was possible for cats to whine, but he has proved me wrong.
In any event, all that changed last week when I was shoved full force, back to reality again. I’m telling you this because my Week In Review is a reflection of my return to normalcy; or as normal as I can get, which isn’t saying much.
Let’s get listing.
- I hit up a farmers market. It’s been weeks since my last visit, and I missed those guys. For real, and as much as I wanted to buy everything in sight, I have a fridge packed with produce so I only came home with the necessities: garlic, red skinned potatoes, and Feta and Pepper Jack cheese. Far be it from me to pass up cheese.
- I worked at least forty-five hours on the job, including a midnight to three a.m. stretch just for kicks. I know how to rage.
- I kitty cat sat for the in-laws, which meant their garden was fair game. Can you say, “Score,” Better yet, image me like Mr. Burns from the Simpsons, rubbing my hands together and muttering “Excellent” under my breath.
- The Hubby and I drove to New York on Saturday for family dinner. We exchanged more Tough Mudder stories, shared our bruises, and then drove home a handful of hours later. It was totally worth it.
- I had a kitchen dance party on Sunday, which involved just over three pounds of green beans. I think freezing produce should always involve a little booty shaking and this song.
- I did our finances and paid the bills. It’s a boring job, but somebody’s got to do it, and regularly I might add.
- I made muffins using the in-laws tasty blackberries and some deliciously ripe bananas. Of course, the recipe came from Farm Fresh Feasts because I can’t get enough of her muffins. That sounds naughty, and now I’ve tainted her reputation. I kinda like it.
- I got the house in order, which included putting away all the things which seem to accumulate from out of nowhere. Seriously where does this crap come from? I also vacuumed the entire first floor and some rooms twice, because my felines are shedding machines. Three cats in the summer time is no joke.
- Speaking of the felines, we did some catching up this weekend in the kitchen. I think they really came to watch my kitchen dance party and with my moves, who can blame them?
Cleaning, freezing, farmers marketing; these are a few of my favorite things, or really what happens when I’m back to reality. Enough about me, let’s hear from you.

Interested in participating in the Week In Review…good, you should be.
Here’s how it works:
- Your post should be about all the things you accomplished in the last seven days or so.
- Your post can be about food, social outings, workouts, home improvement projects, fun excursions, none of the above, or all of the above. The idea is to recognize all the things you accomplished in the past seven days. It’s an ode to yourself, a celebration of sorts, and a virtual pat on the back. Plus you get to write in list form, which rocks my socks. Although if you want to stick to prose go ahead; it’s your world.
- Add the Week in Review button to your post, link back to Clean Eats, Fast Feets and get your list on.
- Or you can be like me and make up own your rules. If you can justify it, I’ll accept it. How’s that for lenient
What kind of normal things did you get up to this week? Anything out of the ordinary? Anything you’re particularly proud of? Tell me all about it; I love this stuff.
Hannah @ CleanEatingVeggieGirl says
You worked a midnight to 3 a.m. shift? Where in the world do you work, woman?? 😉
Meghan says
I do a midnight to three a.m. shift (along with my regular hours) once a month. It’s actually a great time to work; no interruptions.
Jess @ JessieBear What Will You Wear says
THAT SONG. I CANNOT STOP DANCING TO IT.
Meghan says
RIGHT!!
Sarah Pie says
why, why, why would you ever work like that!! My week/weekend has been nothing exciting just work, work, work. I’m trying to get as much of it out of the way as possible before the BF moves home for good later this week 🙂
Meghan says
This from the woman who works 2.5 jobs. Ha.
It’s great the BF is moving home for good; you must be beyond excited.
kirsten@FarmFreshFeasts says
I don’t think it’s possible to taint my reputation, and I’ll just say I came of age prior to the internet and cell phone cameras. ‘Nuf on that.
Glad the muffins were yummy–we’re branching into ‘what to do with crushed muffins’ and will report back.
Meantime, my last week’s summary
8 workouts
6 routes
17.9 total dist. (miles)
3.7 hours
1,061 kcal burned
Eh, could be worse. Like this week, while I’m not walking miles a day if I’m behind a wheel.
Meghan says
Crushed muffins….you better report back.
Brittany says
GAH FREE RANGE in that garden…EXCELLENT indeed! This sounds like a great week. I love all the cats..LOVE!
Meghan says
I thought you might love the kitty pictures, although I didn’t know about your garden love when I published this. Let me just say, you’d be in heaven.
Alex @ Brain, Body, Because says
SO BUSY! Having guests is lots of fun but can also be sorta tiring after they leave. I’m glad that it sounds like things are finally quieting down.
I’m also totally floored by that midnight shift! What the heck? I hope they gave you donuts or something for it.
Off to read your Tough Mudder recap! I’m not sure if I’ll ever be brave enough to attempt something like that…
Meghan says
Between you and me, I’m glad it’s calmed down too. I’m an introvert, so I need at least a week to recharge my batteries, preferably in calm and quiet.
I do the midnight to three shift once a month and no donuts are ever involved, but I do that work from home, so pajamas are definitely happening. Usually there is a feline in my lap too.
Welcome back. I can’t wait to hear all about the big move!!
Eating 4 Balance says
I’ll retiterate Hannah’s question. Where do you work where you have to do that shift? I just remember you mentioning before something about excel spreadsheets? 🙂
I hate having to put away things when I get back from a trip. But packing for them sure is fun…
House sitting sounds fun. I can’t wait to see what you made with all of that garden goodness.
Meghan says
I’m in Accounting, so once a month I handle closing out the books on off hours in order to disturb as few people as possible. This was actually my idea so I must be a glutton for punishment.
I have to unpack almost immediately from a trip. I don’t like things where they “don’t below,” so away it all goes. That’s the self-diagnosed OCD though.
Abby says
You mentioned a midnight-3am shift and then a kitchen dance party, so now I’m questioning what it is that you do for a living 😉 However, I also have kitchen dance parties with my produce, so I suppose that I should reserve judgment… 😉
Meghan says
I thought everybody had kitchen dance parties with their produce…. no….just us.
Olivia @ Liv Lives Life says
I feel the same way about July. It just zoomed by, and last week was the only week I worked all five days. Being busy isn’t all that bad, though. 🙂
How long of a drive is it to NY for you? Hopefully not too long – otherwise, it must have been one heck of a dinner!
Looks like a great week!
Meghan says
Busy isn’t bad at all, especially when it involves so much fun stuff.
The drive to Buffalo is about three hours and fifteen minutes, but we went a little closer this past trip so it was only two and half hours each way. Not ideal, although absolutely manageable.
Heather @ Kiss My Broccoli says
Wow, I had no idea such hours existed for accountants…and it was YOUR idea? You DO know how to rage, woman! If I was a better friend (or a better emailer backer I guess I should say), I would have blown your inbox up that night! 😉 Oh and speaking of, I’m sending you that email just as soon as I finish catching up on your posts…because now that #broccolibombing has started, it cannot be stopped! Lol
Love the song, love the kitchen dance parties, and I 100% understand the freakish accumulation of cat hair thing…and the whining…omg, Tiger is the WORST! Such a sissy! I may or may not bring him with me to Cleveland in October and then “forget” to bring him back! 😉
Meghan says
I like #broccolibombing. It makes me happy.
This is my first full summer with three felines, and I’m not sure I can handle anymore cat hair. Unless you can convince the felines to let me just vacuum them; it’d make things so much easier. Give Tiger a whine from me though. I’m assuming you whine back at him; I certainly do with Oscar.
