Week In Review: Getting My Groove Back Edition

March 31, 2014 by Meghan 26 Comments

I feel a little like Stella getting her groove back.

Well minus the whole seeing Taye Diggs naked thing. Not that he has anything on the Hubby, of course. My man’s got a beautiful backside. Me-Yow.

See, I told you I was on a comeback; lots of mad monkey loving will do that. So will a handful of other things, and today I’m going to share those things, although I fully intend to gloss over the mad monkey loving bit since this isn’t that type of blog. I will tell you it started on the stairs though. Double Me-Yow.

Today’s Week In Review is going to be a lovely little stroll down memory lane (i.e. last week) to see specifically what or who (wink, wink) has been making my #vanillagorilla resurface.

Let’s get listing:

  • I worked a more manageable forty hours on my jobby job last week and even found time to write and publish three blog posts, including one about my beautiful bestie: Holy Smokey Artichokey. That’s what I really wanted to name last Friday’s blog post, but the SEO gods held me back, which is why you shouldn’t worship false idols or something to that effect. Anyway, all the hail The Artichoke. D’oh!

Artichokes Snipped Tips

  • I had quite a few kitchen dance parties, which carried into the hallway and then the living room and back into the kitchen again. I’ll tell you what; it ain’t a dance party if you ain’t moving or if the Beastie Boys aren’t invited. ♫”Body movin’, body movin’. A-1 sound and the sound so soothing.”♫
  • I had a delicious Lebanese lunch with friends, where they mixed slivered almonds and pine nuts in with the rice, and it took it to a whole ‘nother level. Trust me; we need to start a new trend here, if only so we can talk about our Nutty Rice.

Lebanese Lunch

  • I went on a Costco shopping spree, where I managed to score twenty pounds of potatoes, twelve pounds of organic brown rice (I see some Nutty Rice in our future) and a pound and a half of baby kale. The spuds and grains will keep, but I suspect this week might be particularly cleansing. Gulp.
  • I did some afternoon cat napping; literally.

Afternoon Naps Collage

  • I weathered yet another brutally cold day, with the remnants of my cake eaten fireside. While it was nice to have a fire, I’m hoping this is the last one of the season.

Cake Fireside

  • I watched the movie Argo with the Hubby and thoroughly enjoyed it and him.
  • I made a Breakfast Pizza. It was my lunch for two days, and it was delicious.

Breakfast Pizza

  • The single best thing last week, aside from my shenanigans with my main man, was getting my backside back to the gym for some destressing mental relief: Body Pump, Spinning and a zen infused Yoga class really helped my mental state. Plus I kind of look bad ass in Warrior Two.

Warrier Two Meg

And there you have it. Yet another exiting and exhilarating edition of the Week in Review. Hello, did you see my yoga pose? Me-Yow!

Enough about me. Let’s hear from you.

Oh I’m so glad to hear that you found back to your usual sparkling self 🙂
What I totally forgot to add to my blog post today was that gorgeous recipe of yours I managed to recreate on Friday! I love the granola though I unfortunately had to swap the blueberries for mixed berries as I couldn’t get my hands on dried blueberries. But I sneaked in some fresh yesterday which totally made up for the lack of dried ones 😉 Can’t wait for the pb and chocolate granola post! I am sure the lemon-berry mix won’t last long 🙂
    Have a great week!
And btw you totally rock the Warrior Two!

I am just thrilled you actually went forth and made it, regardless of whether you used blueberries or mixed berries. In fact, I bet the mixed berries were equally delicious.

Thanks! Warrior Two is one of my favorites. 🙂 Child’s pose, of course, is my absolute favorite though. 🙂

    Meghan,
I’m glad to see that you’ve been consciously coupling.
Well not see, but to know. That’s enough for me.
I’ve just finished off the last of the blue potatoes from Costco in an outrageous roasted vegetable medley. I hope the photos turn out, because they were stunning.

Speaking of photos turning out . . . I’m linking up my sushi, because this is one of those times [trust me on this one] that you sit back, like I do on occasion with my kids, and think “I made that”. I am utterly blown away that I not only made (and face planted into such deliciousness–though I shared with my son) the above looking sushi, but that I took such a terrific photo (with the camera that has gone back to Amazon because it hurts the spouse’s girlie wrists). A new camera arrives today, and we’ll see what I can do with it when I get back from Chicago.
    Have a lovely week!

I’m a big proponent of consciously coupling, especially for the simple purpose of pleasure. Procreation need not always be a thing.

I can’t wait to see the blue potatoes because a) I love potatoes and b) I love your recipes.

Your sushi really was stunning. You deserve a pat on the back or a smack on the ass for that one. Hopefully your spouse will oblige.

Is nutty rice going to become the new public banana? Either way I could totally get behind that trend because nuts make the world go round 😉

Glad to hear you’re getting your groove back, it sounds like a fabulous week. And you look totally fierce in that warrior two pose me-yow!

hehe monkey love. I wish I could talk like that on my blog. Neither the man nor his family (or mine) would like that very much. I need to write an anonymous blog…except then I would get criticized for not revealing my identity… but I can say on your blog that monkey love really does help boost the mood!

    Must. have. nutty rice!!!

My family reads the blog, and while I’m fairly certain they don’t love all the monkey love references, I know they love me and will support me so long as I’m not hurting anyone. Yep, my family rocks. 🙂

I’m glad to hear that you’re back to your wonderful self again. Not that you were ever less wonderful, but I’m happy to see you happy 🙂 The hubs clearly needs to stop going away, no? Maybe I’d start sleeping better if I had my man around too. Either that or I need to move to the mountains, because I slept like a baby this weekend. Then again, I was pretty exhausted… which again brings me back to needing the man around 😉

Hope your week is off to a great start, lovely lady!

I agree; I would much prefer the Hubby to be around full time.

You may need to physically exhaust yourself either through snow boarding or mad monkey loving in order to sleep like a baby. I got a solid ten and a half hours last night, and it was a beautiful thing.

You look totally bad ass in Warrior 2! This blog post on furthers how much I love you! My husband and I made a deal this week. Instead of getting stressed about things, whenever something annoys us, we’re just gonna have sex. Oh the glories of working at home with your husband. With this plan, I imagine we will look stoned for most of the week with the amount of irritations we get thrown at us…

I hope you have an incredible week!

I think that is a fabulous pact!!! Go forth and mad monkey love it up.

I actually listened to a PodCast this week, after I wrote this post, that suggests a little bedroom action releases endorphins much the same way exercise does so hence all the happy vibes.

I hope your week was great and filled with lots of sexual shenanigans.

You DO look bad ass in warrior two, I love it. I also love that e-card about hugging and sex, I could totally go for one of those. I loved Argo, that movie made me think so hard and I had a million questions after.

Stellaaaaaaaa! You most DEFINITELY got yo groove back, woman! Omg, I loved this…the mad monkey love references, the cleverly disguised inuendos, the fever! Girl, you’re on FIIIIIIIRE! And yes, I did sing that in my best Alicia Keys voice! 😉

I’ve never had Lebanese food, but it has now been added to the list. That breakfast pizza has my name written all over it…ALL OVER IT! You are totally rockin’ that warrior! And can I just say that I love the cat transition in the “cat napping” pics! haha!

PS, glad to hear things just “started” on the stairs…ain’t nobody got time for a trip to the chiro! Lol

You always notice the teeny tiny details which tend to escape others. So I’m very impressed you caught the cat moving in those pictures; the Hubby did too. You too seem to be very similar; perhaps that’s why I like you so much. 🙂

I am going to make it my mission to find the subtle sexual innuendos embedded in these posts. Watching argo while enjoying the movie AND the husband? Quadruple me-ow.

Nuts in rice- This has got to be the final step in convincing you to come to Australia- Persian cooking often involves rice based dishes with various nuts, dried fruits and vegetables- often with little meat. It’s like a meg-fest. There’s one with walnuts, pomegranate arils and saffron. My mum would make all them so much, I got over them and by the time I turned 13, I asked for ‘normal’ food.

I want your mom to cook for me and chase me around the kitchen with a wooden spoon, smacking me on the ass when appropriate. I will teach her about Chiddy Bang and kitchen parties. It’ll be a blast.
