I have no introduction for you today.
How’s that for witty banter? Oh well, I’m pretty sure they say honesty is the best policy anyway. Besides these Currently posts are chock full of words. Who needs a few more at the beginning? Not me; at least not today anyway. With all that not being said, I say we hop right to it, without the actual jump part because I wouldn’t want you to hurt yourself. On second thought, if you’re feeling frisky, go for it and in the meantime, let’s get our Currently on.
Current Book: Blue Labyrinth by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child, another book in the Agent Pendergast series, which makes for a lovely little mental escape. Oh and it’s a crime thriller because those are fun.
(source)
Current Music: speaking of crime thrillers, I binge listened to the podcast Serial in a matter of days. It’s got suspense, intrigue, disbelief, and even an alibi. In fact, there’s an entire episode devoted to the latter topic. It’s a good one.
(source)
Current Non-Guilty Pleasure: Sunday late morning yoga. It’s sweet bliss and my happy place all rolled into one. It’s refreshing, reinvigorating, rejuvenating and all re-things. If you haven’t hopped on the yoga train, you should try it.
Current Nail Color: I’m eliminating this question so you can just forget about my nail color in future posts. Harrumph! In the meantime though, it’s clear. Whew, I’m glad that’s out of the way.
Current Drink: aqua, I’ve been guzzling H2O like a champ. Also, I like options when it comes to my vessels.
Current Food: the staples: fruits, veggies, nuts, bread, and cheese. Restocking the fridge with produce makes me feel warm and fuzzy. Also coffee does that too, in a more literal sense though.
Current Favorite Show: the Hubby and I finished Sons of Anarchy over the holidays, and I’m a little sad to see it, and Jax’s abs, go.
(source)
Current Wish List: The Hubby. After two solid and glorious weeks off, he’s back at school, and I’m flying solo again. As independent as I can be (β« “All the women who are independent, Throw your hands up at me. All the honeys who makin’ money,
Throw your hands up at me.” β«), I do miss his mug when he’s gone though. He’s my partner in crime, or really non-crime considering we haven’t been arrested in years….er, I mean at all, of course.
Current Needs: Brussels sprouts. What can I say? I’m craving them, specifically these Rosemary Roasted Blueberry ones, and I never thought I’d say that in a million, trillion, bazillion years. Quick, somebody check me into an institution.
Current Triumphs: on a whim, I submitted a handful of recipes to Food Gawker and got my first, second, and third acceptance ever! Cloud nine, babies, cloud nine. I would be ever so grateful if you’d go and heart those puppies: Clean Eats, Fast Feets on Food Gawker. Pretty please; I’d love you forever.
Current Bane of Existence: I’ve been trying my hand at some new fitness classes this week at the gym, and they’ve left me feeling welllllll, a wee bit sore. Translation: everything hurts, especially my non-ass ass.
Current Indulgence: the Christmas decorations are boxed up and packed tightly away, in a very neat, organized and orderly fashion because that’s the only way to do it. While you might not appreciate why this is an indulgence, it makes my clutter free heart sing with joy. The pine needles on the other hand…I’ll be picking those up for months.
Current Blessing: this face. The simple fact he’s a few cans short of a six pack only makes him more fantastic in my eyes.
Current Excitement: my older brother, who detests any and all vegetables, aside from spuds (we are Irish after all), sent me a picture of his own homemade Roasted Buffalo Style Cauliflower. I can’t even put into words how huge this is. Cauliflower today….and maybe, just maybe, something green tomorrow. You Go Colin!
Current Links: This one, about how diets rich in whole grains might extend your life. A new Harvard study giving it up for grains. It kind of makes me want a bowl of granola.
Current Mood: It’s Friday and making chocolate chip cookies along with mid-morning yoga is on my weekend agenda. I’m pretty sure you can guess my mood, although elated comes close.
Your turn. Tell me some of the things Currently going on in your life? Or better yet, answer these questions: do you consider yourself to be independent? Have you ever been arrested? Have you ever done BodyBarStike?
Tara says
Ugh, I need to make more time to read. Unfortunately Homeland has been calling to me more often than not and that’s how I’ve been spending much of my downtime. I have to work a bit this weekend (oh the joys of being a real full-time employed person!) but I’m hoping to really get into The Book of Strange New Things by Michel Faber.
Otherwise, my nails are blue, my coffee is black and it’s snowing so crawling back into bed is very appealing right now (oh the pitfalls of working from home!).
Meghan says
I’d like to spend my whole day in bed today. I’d also like to relocate my bed next to the fireplace and perhaps throw some kitchen appliances in there too. Ahhh, it’s good to have a lazy Saturday.

You don’t want to know what’s currently going on in my life, but I will put in a request for more cat pictures please and thank you. And congrats on Food Gawker. That’s huge and hugely awesome! See? Exclamation points!
But I will say I love yoga and have been reading more, what with my current work situation and the fact we got a foot of snow last night and still not plowed (and still not a euphemism for something more exciting.) By the way, your photos have improved about 496 times these past few months. Go you!

First, awesome about FoodGawker! Good for you! I think it’ s fun to try new classes at the gym also BUT it’s been WAY too cold to drag myself to the gym lately so I have totally been doing everything at home. Once I am out of winter hibernation I can begin trying new things again π (Ok, I am out of the house later in the day everyday but at that point taking a class is not an option for me- apparently leaving kids alone is frowned upon or something π )

I just heard the first episode of Serial and glad that you liked it, I’m a podcast junky but am all over the place with my listening choices. I jump around from Food, nerd stuff, fitness, veggie head stuff, and self love fuzz. It’s all good like candy. The book you mention sounds worth reading, I need a break from my Irish romance novels sometimes.
Currently I’m laying on my acupressure mat in my hotel room and being excited about marrying my guy tomorrow. My family is here and life is pretty bodacious. Can’t complain. Those Brussels sprouts and buffalo cauliflower might be another reason to celebrate after our vows though :))

CONGRATULATIONS!! That is awesome news. I hope your day goes just as you imagined. I’m thinking of you.

so a couple of things…
congrats on food gawker submissions, that is NO easy task.
Blueberries + brussels = genius
I agree – yoga rocks. It’s all I’m doing lately (and a little cardio). I have zero desire to pick up weights right now and I’m a-okay with that.
Thx for that study on grains!! You should go post that on a paleo site and watch world war three start!
Sons of Anarchy – how violent is it?
Happy Friday girl!

Sons of Anarchy might be one of the most violent shows I’ve ever seen. I’m not sure you’d like it for that reason. Have you ever tried Arrested Development? That was a great show.
Signed up for yoga tomorrow. I’m excited.

That burger/brussels sprouts plate looks phenomenal. I am assuming it is a veggie burger and I want it. Like NOW.

I agree the Food Gawker business is super cool because I got rejected for the longest time….so much so I stopped trying to submit recipes for a good ten months and then BAM!
Of course it’s a veggie burger. Only my favorite kind ever. It’s Peas & Crayons Sweet Potato Chickpea Burger. Make these, make a double batch for freezing, and thank me later because these will change your life. http://peasandcrayons.com/2012/11/sweet-potato-chickpea-burgers.html

I had no idea that Preston & Child came out with a new book! Truth be told, I’ve kind of fallen out of love with them since Cabinet of Curiosity, buuuuuut I may have to pick this new one up just for sentimental value. And I know you’ll understand this, but… if I had pine needles like that on my floor, I’d be in heaven. There’s something so satisfying about vacuuming and being able to SEE stuff being sucked up. Omg I get all giddy just thinking about it. I know…
Amanda @ .running with spoons. recently posted…. banana bread granola bars .
Meghan says
I don’t think I loved Cabinet of Curiosity either, although I totally enjoyed The Relic.
Forget seeing the pine needles get sucked up, hearing them was incredibly satisfying. It was the sound of cleanliness, and it made me feel good.

I also get that warm fuzzy fresh produce feeling! The best! I’ve jumped back on the brussels train and surprisingly I don’t think my body is revolting against them, as long as they’re roasted until pretty soft in lots of fat. They really are awesome, I relate to that craving π

You make me smile SO much! I’ve missed you, my friend. Glad to see you haven’t lost your sass while I’ve been away. I think I’m going to have to eventually see what this Sons of Anarchy is all about. I’ve heard too many good things about Jax ab’s…er, I mean the show!
Good for you for getting out there and trying something new. I dabbled in some body combat classes a few times…but they were smart enough not to hand me a stick! Ha! I thought of you today when I was booty shaking at the gym. Of course, you already knew that since I harrassed you with Snapchats. π
It’s funny you ask the question about being independent because I was JUST thinking about it the other day. I do consider myself an independent person…as in, I can take care of myself, I can get shit done by myself, and sometimes I just like to be BY myself, but I do have an unmistakable need to care for others. Not that I need to “fix” anyone, but I don’t know, I just like to do nice things for them. Guess it’s one of my love languages. As for your other question, does being detained by zoo security count? π

Congrats on the FG acceptance!!! Favourited them all. π
That gym class sounds intense. I haven’t tried out many classes at my gym because I’m scared of being sore. I mean, I did a Jillian Michaels video last week that had like one easy hamstring move in it, and my hamstrings are still sore this week. What the heckkkk.
Also I’ve never been arrested, but I got a warning for skinny dipping in the lake with some friends a few summers ago. Oops!
