Week in Review: Number Nine is Fine

December 14, 2015 by Meghan 41 Comments

Get your pads and pens ready because it’s time for the Week In Review.

Week In Review Button Final

The Week In Review is a list, in its purest form, not of the things you still need to do, but of all the things you have done in the last seven days. It’s an achievement list, an ode to yourself, a celebration of sorts, and a virtual pat on the back.

Need more details? Head here. ♫ You can do it, put your list into it. ♫

Let’s get listing:

  • I worked a much more reasonable 45 hours at my job last week, and it felt fantastic.
  • I exercised by way of kitchen dance parties and even managed to happily struggle through a short run on Sunday. Sadly, I have the bra burns to prove it. Time for an upgrade.

Meg Running Bump

(Woah, hey there belly. Where did you come from?)

  • I replaced my iPhone screen yet again because it shattered in the Otterbox case (!!!) when I dropped it taking pictures of this. Really, can you blame me? It gives a whole new meaning to spud love.

Naughty Potato

  • I had a delicious date night with the Hubby. ♫ My milkshake brings all the boys to the yard. ♫

Crockerpark at Christmas

Milkshake

B Spot Dinner - Salad, Fries and Milkshake

Crocker Park Martian Movie

  • I watered, fed and trimmed all the houseplants. Multiple those you see here by four, minus of course Samantha. Ain’t no crazy cat lady here. Alright fine, just a little bit.

House plants and Sam

  • I cleaned the kitchen and dining room from the top down, including inside the fridge. I shudder when I think about those past due radishes. Oops.

Naked as a Jaybird

  • I did laundry, folded clothes, paid bills, and went to Nature’s Bin. Ya know, the usual weekend errands. I also bought all the fruit. It’s a minor obsession.

Groceries at Nature's Bin

  • Between the Hubby and I, we managed to complete about half the hundred Christmas cards we need to send. I also stayed up way too late last night to do it. Oops.

Oscar and the Holiday Cards

  • I did some blog work, which means I have another super simple recipe coming your way this week. Psst. It’s the second picture.

Behind the Scenes Food Photography

Ingredients - Pear, Blue Cheese and Candied Walnuts

In honor of resting and recharging, I finished another book. Boom.

The Art of Racing in the Rain - Book and Coffee

Last but certainly not least, I spent a portion of Sunday doing some food prep so we’d have easy dinner options during the work week. I made my own Slow Cooker Cauliflower Masala, big, beautiful Baked Potatoes, Cheddar Scalloped Potatoes and Broccoli Mac and Cheese.

Simple Slow Cooker Cauliflower Masala

Cheddar Scalloped Potatoes

Green Onion Broccoli Mac & Cheese

It’s possibly I have a things for carbs. Then again, we already knew that.

Your turn. I want to hear from you. Link up and get yo’ list on.

I think this is my favorite week of yours yet. Fabulous looking date night. All your house plants. Your cat in that picture of your christmas cards!! And I’m completely jealous of your newly cleaned fridge. Its probably the cleaning task I find most satisfying. Mine is long past due … I shudder at even the thought of what “past due date” things I could find myself. Food prep – amazing. That cauliflower masala is on my next up list. For sure. Well done!!
Ps. You can fix iPhone screens? I smashed mine last week (but without as good of a reason) and have not been loving the all over crack effect.

I agree last week was a good one for me. Equal parts work and pleasure; much more balanced which makes me happier.

There’s a place in Cleveland called phone 911 or phone ambulance. They do all sorts of iPhone repairs for half the cost of Apple. I bet there is something similar in your neck of the woods. Check it out.

I don’t love scouring but damned if I don’t love how it all feels when I’m done.

    Spiked Hot Cocoa Gift Mix
Maple Doodles (locally sourced maple syrup, maple sugar, and eggs)
My Scottish Grandma’s Shortbread (and the secret to great shortbread)
    Cranberry Chai Tea Cookies
    No Bake Magic Cookie Truffles
    Fresh Cranberry Mini Scones

I see your “what 3 things have you accomplished?’ question and raise you 3 more things.

Yes, 6 posts down for #ChristmasWeek last week. I am worn out. However, I did manage to power through with the beet & orange smoothie inspired by your mimosa so that’s #ontheblog today!

Oh, I also baked 4 loaves of pulla as well as more scones, more truffles, and more chai tea cookies for the Elf Shoppe (say it shop-ee) bake sale yesterday. So raise that another. I dunno. I’m not sending out any Christmas cards, though. I am too tired. And my fridge . . . will never look like yours. Sadly.

I am eyeing your veggie dip for the radishes that are languishing in there–or an orange radish salad . . .

    Have a lovely one!

I am envious of your cooking and baking skills right now. How about I come to Dayton, do some cleaning, carding and Christmassing in (yes, I make up words) and you can send me home with a giant tin of cookies. Deal, deal?

Also, I did all that food prep yesterday and completely forgot I have dinner plans two out of the five nights this week. D’oh. Pregnancy brain strikes again.

That fridge brings such joy to my eyes… bravo. I am thrilled to be able to start reading for fun this week. I’ve seen that book around a good bit, so I may check it out!
Also, those cheesy potatoes just got bumped to the top of my to-cook list. Thanks for the link-up, love!

Cheesy potatoes belong at the top of every list, in my not so humble opinion. 🙂

The book was good, and I finished it in a week so I definitely recommend it.

I love that you made it to the WIR this week!

45h do sound more reasonable! I am glad I don’t have to be stern with you. It’s not one of my strong traits 😉

Your video totally made my day! Kitchen dance party perfection 🙂 And can I say that I giggled like an idiot when I saw this spud love picture on snapchat? I had definitely way too much fun!

But seriously 100 Christmas cards?????? I am so glad this is not a big tradition in Germany and even if it was I’d just skip it altogether! I was completely overwhelmed with my wedding thank-you cards.
And I am so jealous you cleaned the fridge. My kitchen is at the point where it disgusts me and I have firm plans to clean it completely inside and outside the first day after the Christmas holidays. It will be ugly!

P.S. I want some Broccoli Mac and Cheese! Badly!

I couldn’t stop laughing over the potato either. I have the maturity level of an eight year old boy.

I had no choice to clean the fridge when I discovered the very rotten radish pile. Oops. Also, they say this cleaning business is called ‘nesting.’ I call it control in whatever area I can get. 🙂

I think I might have the Broccoli Mac and Cheese for dinner tonight. You should come over.

Your clean refrigerator makes me feel calm. And your date night looked delicious.

This weekend I finished a big freelance project, attended my cousin’s gender reveal party complete with tasty cupcakes (it’s a girl!), went to a family Christmas party, met up with an old friend for a drink(s), further Christmafied our place, and meal prepped (chicken enchiladas and a quinoa broccoli bake). Not too shabby!

The clean fridge makes me feel calm too. Heck, any clean surface will work, which is why I clean when I’m stressed or need to feel in control. In this case though, I found a bunch or really far gone radishes.

I need help with my gender reveal blog post. Actually, I’ve got the reveal part down. I just need a title. Any ideas?

A freelance project….that sounds pretty awesome and promising.

The food prep always helps, it’s just a matter of making the time to do it. Some weekends it works and others not so much….

The irony of course is I forgot I’m eating away from home two nights this week so I didn’t need to do all that prep. Oops. Oh well, I can freeze some for next week. 🙂

those delicious carbs… mmmm. just yummy.
    3 things i accomplished:
    made it through work days.
managed to survive two holiday parties – i say survive because the pit of my being just doesn’t really want to be around alcohol or loud people, but i know they’re friends and i have to suck it up.
pulled off my bachelorette party duties with flying colors! i’m totally feeling good about it. and i will take food and bubble baths as rewards. no shame.
    <3 you!

Making it through work days is a big deal. Most week days that’s all I manage to accomplish and I call it a huge win. 🙂

I am super impressed you were able to throw the best bachelorette party, and hope you enjoy those bubble baths. You certainly deserve them.

100 Christmas cards?!? Holy.snap. I don’t even think I know that many people. We mostly send them to family back in Poland, and my mom has to do those because I can’t write in Polish 😆 Also, I dropped my phone while I was in the mountains this weekend and started freaking out because it landed flat on the screen side and that’s how my screen shattered the first time. Somehow my form-over-function Kate Spade case managed to fend off any damage. I still can’t believe that about Otterbox… I thought those things were supposed to be bulletproof.

Major cool points to you for getting all those Christmas cards done! I love writing cards but no one here in Australia really does it – very few Christmas traditions here. Buuuut I loved sending some cards back home and writing small letters to go in with them – got some uber touristy cards to send back with Santa, kangaroos and koalas on the beach – of course!

The Hubby loved the Cauliflower Masala so I bet you could get Vegas to eat it. You might be able to serve it over quinoa too, and I know how she feels about that grain.
