Get your pads and pens ready because it’s time for the Week In Review.
The Week In Review is a list, in its purest form, not of the things you still need to do, but of all the things you have done in the last seven days. It’s an achievement list, an ode to yourself, a celebration of sorts, and a virtual pat on the back.
Need more details? Head here. ♫ You can do it, put your list into it. ♫
Let’s get listing:
I worked zero hours on the job and instead took a staycation where I devoted my time to home renovation projects galore, most of which magically appeared on Snap Chat so if you’re interested in the down and dirty details, follow me there.
In other news, I got addicted to Snap Chat. Oops. In my defense, life is so much more interesting when you’re not trapped in an office all day.
In the land of DIY projects, I pulled nails, staples, and carpet tack strips until my fingers bled. Alright fine, that last part is me being dramatic; no blood was shed, although I’m certain I lost a layer of skin.
I washed floors, scrubbed walls and played with wood (filler), and I don’t meant the exciting kind. Pity.
I taped off walls, doorways, windows, bookcases so the Hubby could paint. Pregnancy and painting don’t go together or else I would have been right there with him splashing color on the walls, and by splashing I mean perfectly stroking. Wink, wink, nudge, nudge.
Progress.
I hit up Home Depot, Sherwin Williams, Target, and antique stores galore. I bought a bed, a console table, a medicine cabinet, scones, and a sparkly new bathroom vanity, minus the sparkly with a side of functionality.
I vacuumed, vacuumed, vacuumed and then vacuumed some more to try to keep the dust and debris from spreading and swallowing the entire house whole. Mission accomplished.
I soaked in the tub. De-licious.
I finished the second book in The Outlander series and damn that ending. It’s taking all my self-restraint, which admittedly isn’t much, not to immediately start the next book.
I took advantage of the 65 degree (18 C) weather on Saturday and went for a stroll in the park. “Look Ma, no feet.”
I had a long overdue Face Time date with my girl Lucie, who helped restore my sanity once more.
I hung with Oscar or rather he spent quality time with the babe, nesting; quite literally. I’m pretty sure he thinks we’re hatching an egg.
I got a maternity massage, which left me weak in the knees and right in the head. I need to do these more often.
I lunched, brunched and dined out with various friends and family throughout the week.
I answered emails, paid bills, balanced our checkbooks and sent out thank you cards. Adulting at it’s finest.
I made at least one meal at home every day, sans Sunday, which for me is pretty impressive. Also, making nachos totally counts as cooking.
I stayed fairly current with BlogLovin.
Last but certainly not least, I did some recipe testing, which means more goodness coming your way soon, but not too soon. I am pregnant after all and therefore make no promises on timing any more.
Before I relinquish the reins to you, I’m going to let you in on a little secret. I had moments, including an entire day last week, where I felt like a waste of space. Yes, I’m being dramatic, again; it’s par for the course.
Guilt free relaxing is one thing, doing so while your other half is slaving away painting, is quite another. Also, it’s been a long time since we’ve taken on such a large renovation project ourselves and my expectation of getting the work done by weeks end was unmet.
All of that with a side of pregnancy hormones made me a little crazy on occasion.
I share this not seeking support or even empathy, but more importantly to let you know how I overcame my own mindset. I talked to a friend, I shifted my expectations for the renovations, and I sat down and worked on the Week in Review. Instead of lamenting all the things which didn’t get done, it was a tremendous help to refocus on all things that did. Yep, this little link up is a gem (pardon my horn tooting; the good kind), and I love sharing the positive vibes with all of you.
Without further ado, it’s your turn. I want to hear from you. Link up and get yo’ list on.
What are three things you accomplished in the last week? How has the WIR helped you?
Cora says
Please toot that hotn of yours as much as you’d like. This link up is like a mood makeover from the wizards. I guess that makes you a wizard. How cool!
I’m so excited you had a stay cation. It truly does look like you spent it the best way possible. Lots of productivity but also lots of what you love. That shopping list sounds so exciting. I love antiques! And scones.
Oscar on his new hill top is far too cute. And I’m loving the look of that bath, miss.
I’m glad a good friend and your own strength of mind were able to bring you back to some light, and that it stays with you this week!

Juli @1000lovelythings says
Sweetheart, we all have this days or weeks and sometimes maybe even months. Kudos on overcoming the crazy and focusing on the good. It’s the only thing that helps. Sometimes we need a little help from a friend. I had a good chat with a friend last week as well and it helped a lot though we didn’t even touch the source of my problems.
Though I am so not an ‘inspirational quotes’ person I read one the other day that I find completely fitting for myself and maybe it’s the same for you. It was something along the lines of ‘people never see the silver lining when they expect to see gold’ Sometimes high expectation ruin everything.
Being in the middle of a renovation messes with your brain, pregnant or not! And from a more objective point of view, the room looks gorgeous and I can’t wait to see it in person. The blue is beautiful! I also loved all your snapchats last week. Especially Oscar on the bump made me smile!
Sorry for the really long comment. I feel like we have to catch up soon. So far I hope you have a good start to the work week and thank you for linking me up 🙂
P.S. Making nachos totally counts!!!

Yes we definitely need to catch up. I miss my Juli time.
The funny thing about those expectations is they are almost always self imposed. We’re too tough on ourselves.

Thank you for letting us in on that secret- I know that sometimes I get caught up in a negative cycle and forget to focus on the good.
I love those pictures of Oscar! When I was pregnant with Matilda, Penny loved to nest on my belly. It was funny because she was never much of a snuggled before that. It’s like she knew that there was a baby in there- a baby who would grow into a cat chasing torturer. It’s all in good fun though, right?
The renovation project sounds like it’s coming along nicely! Props to the hubs for the nice painting job!
Meghan says
Yes definitely mad props to the Hubby. He’s been a working machine, and the room really does look nice. I can’t wait to have it all finished. One day I will learn patience.

Good job, kid. I am proud of you for overcoming your mindset and I was so incredibly happy to see your face. And watch that chasing child video 🙂

The child with the snowball video was fantastic. I love the kitty cat one too. I can so see Oscar doing that. I made Jon watch them as well. They make me laugh so much.
I will make you this quiche and then we can make inappropriate jokes about asparagus.

Meghan,
I’m very proud of you. Realizing all that you have accomplished, not lamenting all that you have not, will stand you in good stead when your accomplishment is taking a shower. Period. (well and not killing anyone and keeping the baby clean/fed/nurtured and such–that’s enough some days)
I’ve finished reading The Life-changing Magic of Tidying Up and my socks are thanking me 20 times a day, I donated 4 bags last week, and have more stuff to consign. I’m pleased to say that more papers left my house in the paper recycling bag than came into the house and that is a very Good Thing.
Rock on my friend.

Very nicely done on the decluttering front. What will the spouse think when he returns? I imagine he’ll be thrilled.

Michele @ paleorunningmomma says
Pregnancy was the one time I really adjusted expectations and didn’t feel guilty – “just gestate” was my mindset and motto 🙂 I promptly went back to feeling guilty once each kid came out though. I like how you worked on your mindset and didn’t give into the guilt! As for me, taking care of sick little ones all week was my accomplishment. We did all feel well enough to get into the city and enjoy the weather for a couple of hours this weekend though.

I love following you on snapchat – you’re always up to some kitchen shenanigans. I also appreciate the F->C conversions – I like to think I have an idea of how they convert but I’m limited to anything over 80F is warm (based on the temperature at which I would swim in our above ground pool when I was a kid). I had my priorities, and swimming in cold water was not one of them.
Thanks for the link up, I’m so happy to participate today!

So much good looking food in this post… that blueberry creation and whatever has the raspberries??
You bring up a good point about the importance of changing your mindset, and in your case, you are doing some hard work right now in growing a baby. They take a lot of your energy and resources. It’s not easy to watch your other half be hard at work, though, and feel like a lump sitting on a log. I figure it all balances itself out in different ways.

Meghan says
It does take a ridiculous amount of energy to grow a tiny human. I can’t believe how easily I get tired. Totally worth it though in the end, yes? Say yes. 🙂
I can’t wait to share the recipe with the raspberries. It involves puff pastry and brie though so you know it has to be good.

You know, I kinda forgot that it’s supposed to be a list of accomplishments that we did last week. I think this week’s is just a list of things that happened. Shoot. I’ll see if I can re-word it because it really makes a difference to focus on the positive sides of things! I often am amazed at myself once I sit down at the laptop and make my list of what I did the previous week. I love it!
I’m really glad you got that pregnancy massage. It’s so important!

Toot your own horn and toot it loudly – I’m German so writing this doesn’t bring up any naughty thoughts – because you know that a) this fabulous link-up is a serious gem and b) you’ve been getting enough done for two weeks every of the past ones so resting was well deserved. Or should I say enough for three as we can’t forget about your 24/7 job of growing a little human. I’m not one to say this just because I like you [though I do] but I really think so. Don’t be so hard on yourself. And if you ever feel like talking to a German friend let me know :).

Funny, as I was reading along, I was like “She was super productive considering this was her week off” but as a fellow type A perfectionist, I certainly understand how easy it is to put too much pressure on yourself. Take a page from Oscar’s book, who looked the very definition of chilled out from that photo.
I scored a month-long freelance gig in New Orleans, started packing/prepping for said trip, and begged Alex to clean the bathroom at least once while I’m gone. What was that you were saying about managing expectations…

That is awesome news about New Orleans!!!! Have you ever been? You’re going to have a fantastic time. Do a ghost tour, a swamp tour (so much fun!!), and eat a beignet or five for me. I want to hear all about it!!

Books, baths, massages, strolls, friends, and good food certainly don’t hurt though. I hope you’re feeling better, boo. And that you’ve got plenty more massages in the books.
PS – do I need to start reading The Outlander series?!

Yes for the wonder that is WIR for helping us get our mindset back in check. It’s all to easy to get down about what we aren’t doing rather than focusing on what we have done. I find it all to easy to slip into guilt mode when I think about david being at work all day and I get to write at home… Like what I do isn’t enough or I don’t do enough. But a good pep talk to myself in the mirror always helps 🙂
Oh and I bet the hubster and your family were overjoyed about all the delicious eats you created them! I would paint and do chores for days to help you if you fed me in return!
