Week in Review: The Remodeling Continues and Eats (#20)

February 29, 2016 by Meghan 39 Comments

Get your pads and pens ready because it’s time for the Week In Review.

The Week In Review is a list, in its purest form, not of the things you still need to do, but of all the things you have done in the last seven days. It’s an achievement list, an ode to yourself, a celebration of sorts, and a virtual pat on the back.

Week In Review Button Final

Need more details? Head here. ♫ You can do it, put your list into it. ♫

Let’s get listing:

I worked forty plus hours on the job. After my staycation the week prior, it was tough putting in so many hours, and I found myself horizontal on the couch or in bed early most evenings.

I published three blog posts, including a cheeky little number on How Cats Have Prepared me for Parenthood. Say hello to Oscar; he’s about five cans short of a six pack, which makes me love him even more. He also has no regard for personal space; yours that is.

Oscar Extreme Close Up

I had dinner at the in-laws on Tuesday night before heading back to my horizontal position on the couch. Cake was involved.

I had lunch out with my coworkers twice. Let’s just say not hitting up the gym on your lunch hour certainly frees up a lot of time, for food of course.

Tomato Bisque and a Kale Salad at Bold Food and Drink and Queso Dip at Camino Taco and Tequila Bar.

Tomato Basil Soup and Kale Salad at Bold

Queso Dip

I did laundry and even better, I folded that same laundry. Clean sheets equal bliss.

I watched my Hubby and father in law continue with the home renovations.

Ed Buffing Hardwood Floors

For my part, I changed out hardware and polished some knobs. I so wish I meant it like that.

I picked up cat puke because, you know, freshly buffed floors are a magnet for my felines.

I cleaned the kitchen and the dining room.

Kitchen

I finished my latest book, The Girl In The Spider’s Web, the fourth in The Dragon Tattoo series. Salander, with all her crazy issues, might just be my new hero.

After three submissions, I finally got my Baked Brie Bites with Raspberry Sauce accepted by Food Gawker. Persistence pays off or maybe they got all hot and bothered after reading the post.

Baked Brie Bites with Raspberry Sauce C

On Saturday evening, I hit up Pet Supplies, Nature’s Bin, and the local library for new reading material. Clearly, I know how to rage.

Sunday found me on another hunt for home goods at Target and Marshalls. Furnishing the room is almost as important as renovating it. Baby steps…

Guest Bedroom Renovation

This was of course after another round of Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Pancakes because shopping requires sustenance.

I also spent some time photographing the same; in my driveway of course. Welcome to the wonderful and weird world of food blogging. Just ignore that leaf in your food.

On that note, it’s your turn. I want to hear from you. Link up and get yo’ list on.

I am so behind with my blog reading. I need to catch up asap and read your cats and parenting post. I expect a great read 😀
I love the new guest bedroom. Seriously this was worth the effort.
I didn’t even know there was a fourth book in the series. I always assumed the third was the last. I need to read this. I loved the first three books.

Evenings in the horizontal on the couch, cake, nachos and pancakes sound blissful right now. I hope you enjoyed it. Take care and don’t work so much!
Also say hi to Oscar – I still have every intention to befriend him 😉

The fourth book was a different author although I think the concept was still Stieg Larssons. It was a fantastic read.

Oscar says hello right back. He can’t wait to hang with you in his new room this summer.

    Meghan,
The room looks gorgeous! Want to send Your People to come do my bedroom floors? They could use a good buffing, and I don’t mean that in the ‘my spouse has been gone for 5 months’ way that it sounds.
Last week I parted amicably with my previous farm share. I was ready for a change, and since we’re not moving any time soon . . . I gotta cure my itchy feet somehow.
    Have a lovely week!

I also spent a great deal … Aka all my evenings … In horizontal position. I did not clean up cat puke or polish any knobs, though. Those moments of glory are all yours. Congrats on food gawker! Not sure how they could resist such temptation…

I was stalking you on Snapchat this weekend and your guest bedroom looks great! Love the blue with the hardwood floors. Those photos rivaled only, of course, by that beautiful bowl of queso that I want to drink with a spoon.

I finally finished packing yesterday, and bought some shorts for this little journey down south. Then looked at my legs in said shorts and bought some self-tanner too. Winter in the Northeast is a cruel mistress.

Okay so I’m working on my WIR right now, and I haven’t checked out the cat post yet but I’m on it, stat. Dogs are funny too — but cats win in the creepy department hehehe. Looks like the house projects are coming along nicely. Here’s to another great week! Thanks for hosting!

Let’s face it: the people at Foodgawker were lured in by your succulent* raspberries on melty cheese. If they wouldn’t have been I’d have started guessing robots were the ones approvin – or refusing to do so – recipes. Congrats on your success there! They didn’t accept my Nut Brittle and I’ve been sulking since. Okay, not really, but I haven’t given it another try yet.
It’s nice to see your forced break from the gym helps in fostering colleague relationships. Also, you seem to have some pretty good restaurants close to your office. Mmmh.
I’m happy to see the home renovation coming along well – I need my guest room ready when the baby arrives after all ;).
Happy Monday, Meg, and thanks for taking care of my link-up issue!

The guestroom is almost complete, although I do need to hang drapes. Oh well, window treatments are probably overrated. 🙂

I love the way the room looks! the shiny wood floors are such a nice contrast to the gorgeous blue walls and white trim, and the black furniture… poppin! we’re in the process of moving, which is just too exhausting to think about. first we need to find a place, so that’s the first task. i like to wait till we have less time so that we can get what’s on the market when we need it, but my hubby likes to start hunting early. the problem is that if you find something you like too early, you either have to pay double rent or risk losing it. Most places are available right away and won’t hold it for you for 30 days, so we still have some time. But there is that darn packing – totally not into it. i just got spin certified and hired on at 24 hour fitness. so hopefully i get to actually teach a class before my belly gets too big 😀 we shall see….

I’m so happy to hear that the cats properly christened your floors — it means good luck for the people who stay in it. Just warn me ahead of time which spot I should avoid stepping on 😛 And holy heck do those pancakes look fluffy. Is it weird that I want to use one as a pillow? I blame that on the fact that mine is on it’s last legs (read: flat and lumpy)… That’s actually one thing I didn’t manage to accomplish this past week — buying a new one. BUT I did manage to work my oven into the ground, do a little snowboarding, and get all sorts of weird uncomfortable vibes from the Oscars. Did you watch them. Eeeeek.

When we renovated the kitchen years and years ago, we specifically had the microwave built into that cabinet so we wouldn’t lose valuable counter space. I’m still thrilled with that decision, although it takes people a good while to find the microwave when they come over. 🙂

I absolutely recommend the fourth book. The writing style was a click different, but it was still good and the story line had me hooked.
