Week In Review: #28

April 25, 2016 by Meghan 55 Comments

Get your pads and pens ready because it’s time for the Week In Review.

The Week In Review is a list, in its purest form, not of the things you still need to do, but of all the things you have done in the last seven days. It’s an achievement list, an ode to yourself, a celebration of sorts, and a virtual pat on the back or smack on the ass. Wink, wink, nudge, nudge.

Week In Review Button Final

Need more details? Head here.

♫ You can do it, put your list into it. ♫

Let’s get listing:

The Hubby, Ave and I survived the week, which is pretty big deal in my book, considering this whole baby business is new for all of us.

In more baby news, we filed Ave’s nails (success!), gave her a sponge bath (she peed all over herself mere minutes later), and put her in a onesie, which was as terrifying for her as it was for me. Have you ever tried to pull something over a newborn’s head? Yeah, you can see my dilemma.

Ave's First Salsa and Onesie

(Let’s tango.)

Ave and I caught a cold. As a result, I used my ridiculously expensive Lancôme tweezers to pull boogers out of her nose. Improvisation at its finest.

I did a bazillion loads of laundry and even cleaned our sheets, twice. Once to get rid of the breast milk stains and the second time because of the sickness. Germs are bad.

I showered six out of seven days, and I managed to brush my teeth a handful of times. I even washed my hair.

I did a lot of walking, rocking, and swaying with the baby to try to soothe her to sleep. It’s my new version of cardio. It’s like a slow motion Zumba.

Meg walking Ave

(Motherhood = exhausted and half naked, with a baby on your boobs, sans make up, plus bed head.)

I filed our Federal, State and Local taxes at 9 p.m. on the 18th. Procrastination at its finest.

I did some blog reading.

I hit up Target with the Hubby, where I put on legit pants for the first time in two plus weeks. Of course the second I got back home, I climbed right back into my sweatpants. Hello Pimp Suit; come to Mama.

Meg Headphones Morning After Makeup

(This is a pre-baby picture. I haven’t worn this much makeup in weeks.)

I paid bills and reconciled our bank accounts.

On a handful of occasions, I grabbed the baby and her stroller and soaked up some vitamin D.

I made homemade Veggie Stock and a batch of Stuffed Artichoke Soup with Brown Rice.

Stuffed Artichoke Soup with Brown Rice and Asiago

I hit up a lactation support group, where all the ladies whip out their tatas and let the tiny humans go to town. It felt like home.

I watched a season and a half of Gilmore Girls, all while breastfeeding, which is where all my time goes these days.

Gilmore Girls, Coffee and Chocolate Chip Cookies

Last but not least, I celebrated eleven years of marital bliss with the Hubby by passing out on the couch while watching The Entourage movie on Saturday night. The bits I did see were pretty funny though.

It’s your turn. I want to hear from you. Link up and get yo’ list on.

Nasty colds! Hope you too feel better soon! Sometimes surviving is all that counts though when you ask me you did amazing! My friend’s little girl is one week older than Ave and I had her on my arm last week. So tiny! It freaks me out every time how fragile a baby seems.
My niece needed so much rocking to fall asleep. At some point her parents got a stability ball rocking her sitting instead of standing and that was a game changer. Especially at 3 am only half awake.

Happy Anniversary! 11 years is so impressive. Next month is our third and it feels soooo long to us already 😀

Aww, Meg, now you’re reminding me that each and every time my spouse pulled any article of clothing over our kids’ heads he’d say as their heads would appear (just one head per kid, mind you) “and, you’re born”.

I miss that, now that they dress themselves. Even if they are dressing themselves in t-shirts and shorts to walk to school in 40 degree weather.

No post to link, as usual, but I was a machine yesterday. I ended up with 2.5 pounds of fresh pasta ends from work, because the sheets arrive in a size approximately 6×8 inches longer than the ravioli frames we have, and the ass pain of trying to piece together all the leftovers is not worth the time.

But it’s edible food, and I couldn’t just pitch it all, so they told me to take it home. Which I did.

Yesterday I used leftover Butternut Squash & Caramelized Onion Enchilada filling to make baked ravioli bites, a lil fusion action going on to use up some sheets.
Then I made roasted acorn squash and ricotta ravioli, and froze it, for a later meal. At that point I decided that homemade ravioli is an even bigger ass pain than restaurant-made ravioli and opted to use the remaining fresh pasta sheets, all spinach, in a grilled eggplant lasagna. I’ll serve it tonight when my MIL is visiting.

What do all of these dishes have in common? That’s right, they are meatless. My spouse’s new dietary choices are kinda messing with me, so I figured I’d make a bunch of stuff so I don’t end up sitting across from him while he eats oatmeal and we eat . . . chicken casserole.

You look amazing–and are taking this to this motherhood thing like a duck. Hang in there!

I watched a whole half season of Gilmore Girls last night alone. I may be catching up to you sooner than I thought.
They have lactation support groups!?! Wow. I feel like there could be a reality show based on that. Or… not?

Funny little cramps that feel like your period is coming are contractions. I had them for weeks, maybe even a month before delivery so it’s probably all good. You should mention it to your doctor though just to be safe.

They actually told us not to clip the baby’s nails since they’re too delicate and it will cause the baby to bleed so we’re sticking with simple filing for now. After hearing that though, I may never clip those nails. Guess I better invest in emory boards. 🙂

I’ve been reading for just a short time and love this blog. I know I should not offer advice but maybe this will be helpful for you with the onset. The shoulders on onseys are lapped so you can easily just pull the whole thing on up from the bottom, starting at the feet, if the snaps are open! The neck opens up plenty wide to slide right up. No need to pull it down over little Ave’s head and cause trauma to Everyone. Just thread her little hands and arms through the sleeves normally and snap her in and you should be all set.
