Currently: February 2017

February 23, 2017 by Meghan 30 Comments

Since we’re nearing the end of the month, it’s time to slip another Currently post into the mix. Instead of rambling on, as is my usual custom, I’m getting right to the point today. You’re welcome.

Current Book: I plowed through Razor Girl by Carl Hiassen in a matter of days, laughing the entire way. If you’re looking for something light and funny, this is a must read. On the flip side, I read Neverhome by Laird Hunt, a book about a woman who passes as a man to fight in the Civil War. It was intriguing. Next up on the list is Mudbound by Hillary Jordan, a recommendation from my favorite librarian.

Current Confession: the above picture is totally staged. You should see the pile of papers I shoved aside so I could get a clean shot. I’d show you, but then I’d have to kill you and we don’t want that.

Current Obsession: speaking of madness, I’ve been watching a lot of Hoarders on FX. I’m fascinated, plus it’s great motivation for decluttering all the things. I fully anticipate restarting my kitchen cabinet purge soon…ish.

Current Drink: if it’s not booze, it’s gotta be coffee, the life blood of parenting.

Current Food: nachos. I’ve been eating them weekly, and I have no intentions of stopping anytime soon.

Current Triumphs: starting and finishing this 500 piece puzzle in the span of one evening. It’s good to know “I’ve still got it,” she says while cracking her knuckles.

Current Excitement: having a few free hours to work on a puzzle.

Current Needs: a cleaning fairy. I can’t keep up with Ave’s recent fascination with floor lint, and she’s eaten more of it than I care to admit.

Current Bane of Existence: I have a freckle on my left breast which Ave identifies as more lint. As such, she keeps trying to pull it off. Ouch.

Current Non-Guilty Pleasure: a random Tuesday afternoon lunch date with the Hubby.

Current Thankfulness: getting to spend a good chunk of time with my family this month. Between visits from both my parents and a weekend trip to Buffalo, I’m getting large doses of love. It’s good for me and great for the baby to get to know all her grandparents.

Current Mood: I’m happy and tired, although the latter is par for the parenting course.

Your turn. What’s Currently going on in your world? Current book? Current obsession? Current confession?

I am currently reading the Woman in Cabin 10 and feeling “meh” about it but at 45% complete I am committed. Also currently obsessed with the springtime weather and little sprouts I see popping up in our flower beds

This weather has been amazing. I’ve been lapping it up. I’m not ready for the cold to come back, and yes now I think 40 degrees is cold. I’ve been spoiled. 🙂

Ooooooh, you sound so peaceful and content in this post. I love it. The lint-eating reminds me of my friend Becky, and how she posted on Facebook just yesterday that her twins (she has like, a zillion kids and her twins are 2 year-olds) just ate earplugs thinking they were gummies. No harm done, but still freaky! And hilarious. Heh heh..

I need to have a good laugh! Do you think I’d like Razor? Is it my kind of humour? I haaaaate puzzles, but I love the artwork on that one you’re working on.

Ave ate a dried up piece of wet cat food off the floor this morning. 🙂

You still need to get Razor Girl. According to my dad, it’s his favorite of his books.

It’s nice to wake up to some of your humour! My current world is a little boring. I’m rocking unemployment and trying not to bake too many loaves of bread – do you want some!? (can I mail bread to the USA?)

I want nachos! For some reason Vegas isn’t a fan of ordering nachos, which means I never order them… because I will, in fact, eat a plate of nachos the size of Texas without blinking. Maybe I just need to make my own… we have toppings, actually. Thanks of making me crave nachos at 9am.

You and your mom look alike. Must be related.

I just order the nachos as my entree and then we all win. The Hubby doesn’t like to share food, like at all. It’s crazy.

I loved Mudbound. It’s not a beach read though. I too also need a cleaning fairy and a cooking fairy if we’re making wishes. Actually, scratch all that…I want a bedtime fairy who will fight that battle for me.

I have issues with clutter. Could be that crowding a family of 9 into 900 sq. Ft. Has something to do with it! My husband loves piles and I find as get older I am getting better at looking the other way and telling myself, “it’s not my mess, I didn’t do it.” I feel like a naughty 6 year old defying my chores, lol!

I have read mud bound and couldn’t take my out out of it till it was finished! Not a sunny story, as the title reads, but captivating! I could use a good chuckle so I think I think I will pick up Razor Girl. I love that I can walk to my library.

I don’t know about you, but when my kids were little crawlers, I counted floor lint as part of RDA of fiber. Doesn’t everyone?

I’d love to hear what you think of Razor Girl. It’s great for a laugh. I’m a hundred pages in to Mudbound and already thoroughly engrossed.

Does dried out soft cat food count as RDA of fiber because Ave managed to eat some of that this morning. Ha, ha.

Geez Louise 500 pieces… in one evening? You have one mean talent, madame. I’m a little scared for your left breast though. I wouldn’t trust a hungry baby for a second. My current thankfulness is also family – still riding the peaceful high from their visit last week.

Your nachos are prettier than my nachos. By far!! That purple hoodie is amazing. Which leads me to wonder why not get matching purple hoodies! It’s a great color on both of your skin tones 🙂
I’m proud of myself for cooking three dinners this week and it’s only Thursday. I got help from Blue Apron but all the blood, sweat, and years were mine. I’m currently reading The 12 Week Year. It’s quite illuminating. Confession: I’m sitting here with Lulu dozed off on my chest in pants inside out and the socks they give you at the hospital with the rubber treads. Very sexy. I also drank a glass of moscato with dinner for no other reason than I felt like it. It went nicely with the giant Mexican salad. You would have loved it, so many veggies.
Looking at direct flights to Cleveland next month. Feeling much better about life 🙂 except I gotta poop. Story of my life.

Three dinners in just a few days!! I am impressed. You deserve a gold medal, a star, a cookie and all that jazz.

I put my underwear on inside out the other day, and I didn’t even realize until like 6 o’clock. Ha! The joys of parenting.

if it’s not booze, it’s gotta be coffee -> totally same!
Also your nachos look beautiful and you totally made me crave some now.
Every puzzle over 10 pieces is horrible in my eyes. When one of the kids wants me to do a puzzle with them I always suggest to read a book instead. I am in awe of everyone who can muster the patience to complete one with 500 or even 1000 pieces.
Current confession: I hate with every cell of my body that I all I can talk about is my thesis. I bore myself to death.
Current obsession: extremely hot food paired with a moscow mule. Can’t beat that combo. btw I am drinking one right now 😉
