Week in Review: The Little Things (#72)

February 27, 2017 by Meghan 41 Comments

Get your pads and pens ready because it’s time for the Week In Review.

The Week In Review is a list, in its purest form, not of the things you still need to do, but of all the things you have done in the last seven days. It’s an achievement list, an ode to yourself, a celebration of sorts, and a virtual pat on the back or smack on the ass. Wink, wink, nudge, nudge.

Need more details? Head here.

♫ You can do it, put your list into it. ♫

Last week was awesome.

We had family staying with us every day but Friday, and it was really nice to catch up and have a spare pair of hands or three. Having help trumps my introverted ways, especially when the assistance actually allows me to have a moment to myself or a shower without a show; Ave has her own chair in our bathroom.

Therefore, instead of digging into my daily deets, today I want to focus on the little things that brought a smile to my face and warmed the cockles of my heart last week.

Let’s get listing:

I bought myself some flowers, or actually my mother did because she surprised me and picked up my grocery bill, booze included.

Sunshine, shades, seventy-five degrees (24 Celsius) and swinging.

I did some recipe testing, and it was magical. I want to tweak the lentil balls a little, but this 30 minute tomato sauce is headed your way soon.

Coffee and caramel chips while working in my planner.

A lunch date with my kid one day and the Hubby the next.

Lounging, Lambics, and la femme films.

Last but certainly not least, the Breadsmith and brunching.

It’s your turn. I’d love to hear from you. Link up and get yo’ list on.

This sounds like a perfect and wonderful week. Time with beloved ones is the best (with alone time being the very very close second best) The lentil balls and tomato sauce look so tasty. I will definitely try both once you’re ready to post the recipes.
It’s definitely the little things in life. Even though it’s sometimes hard to see them.
Hope you have a fab week, my dear!

My mom was especially awesome in that she watched the baby so I could relax, do a puzzle, play in my planner….basically allow me to have some alone time. It was lovely.

Ah, it’s so nice to see you got some flowers after all. Gifted ones trump self-purchased ones any day – mums really know our needs well, no? Knowing you had some helping hands around and at that some me time is wonderful. There’s no shame in needing those moments.
Look at Miss Ave rocking both the shades and tutu in stellar manner. She’s a multifaceted character ;). And growing so so fast. Not much longer until her first birthday! Where did time go??

And I’m all smiles. Makes ME happy to see such a lovely week go down. I’m so glad you had a lot of family contact and that this provided you with more stress free days than stress full days – we know sometimes it can be the opposite. Good ol’ mothers. My mom also picked up my grocery bill last week…. we are forever their kids aren’t we? And I see the making of mexican breakfast hash on that brunch table. I think it was actually YOUR family who were the lucky ones. May these good vibes carry you through the start of this next week, as well!!

Hooray for family weeks and making life better. I think you and I did pretty well last week. 🙂

    Meg,
Looks like you had a lovely week, and I’m looking forward to tomato sauce! I make 8 gallons of it at a time at work, and it takes a bit longer than 30 minutes 😉
I picked up some white daisies the day after V Day (magically marked down of course) and they are STILL GOING STRONG in the blue vase my spouse made at the Ohio Glass Museum last year. So pretty together! Flowers really make my day.

I’m trying and failing but trying again to make cinnamon swirl bread stuffed with apricots and walnuts. But the failures make excellent toast so no complaints here. Some day I’ll get it!

    Have a lovely week!

Eight gallons at a time!! Wow, that’s a lot of sauce. I bet it’s spectacular though.

Flowers really do brighten the spirits. I keep trimming the ends of them to make them last longer.

I would be happy to test out your cinnamon swirl bread. 🙂

I got so distracted by Ren and Stimpy at the beginning of this that I almost forgot to read the rest…I have mommy ADD. Good for you for going on lunch dates with Ave! I need to take one of the kids on a solo date again soon. I also want to buy myself flowers…I think that’s going to have to happen today. I love that you got to spend time with family. It feels like someone hit the reset button on me anytime that happens. Pure magic.

Your week last week looks fantastic! I love Ave’s facial expression and her green outfit in that pic. You’ve inspired me to take Callum out on lunch dates. We may do it today, actually. I think it’s time. I love the chicken avocado wrap from Wendel’s, a cafe/bookstore on the edge of the river in a quaint little town, and Callum loves the trains that go by. WIN-WIN.

A smiling baby, a bit of booze, and those BALLS! This week looks like everything I love in a week (including the fact that the baby belongs to someone else). Also I’m totally going to steal your idea for a coffee treat on the side of my planning for the next week because that looks downright luxurious (in my list-loving mind at least).

It worked better as a movie than I thought it would, and I was skeptical too. That being said, no movie surpasses the book.

The flowers are called Monster Roses; they’re so different and so cool. I puffy heart them.

There is something about that selfie of the two of you says future trouble! And hysterical fun!!! I can imagine you teaching Ave to drive a manual. I had side splitting laughter with my kids in the parking lots in my old Fiat convertible teaching them the 5 speed. Maybe you’ve begun with running of the carts in Costco! The two of you just look like coconspiriters with those matching grins and smiling eyes!

When you have a wonderful family you treasure every moment with them, and we love helping our children and spoiling them! It’s always a treat to take over baby! Never work or duty, just what a gramma does, out of love, and because she loves every chance to spend one on one with those little cherubs! My kids all live very close, so it was very often that I would just call and ask if I could come and pick one (or both, when the second one came) up! I was rarely denied! Now I am so glad I did! One in college, two heading to high school next year, and one ‘little’ 11 year old. I cherish those times and the memories! My kids cherished the moments of peace that I gave them, lol!

But that sauce! I have my standard slow simmering go to recipe, but love a quick fun change! Can’t wait! And when the lentil ballls are ready I will be the first to make them, lentils are one of my favorite proteins.

And those flowers!!! What ARE they? If they’re roses, I wanna grow those beauties! Never have I ever laid my eyes on such exotic lovelies in a nosegay of roses before! I’m not even positive they are roses!

I too will on occasion self-spoil (I did NOT say self-soil!) and buy myself a nosegay of poseys. Nothing cheers the soul like and warms my heart like quite a fresh tussy-mussy, though it is rare, because my husband typically beats me to the matter. Each week he brings me fresh carnations because I find their scent sooo exotic! If I could buy their perfume, I so would, for (almost) any price!!

The flowers are Monster Roses. I found them at Whole Foods and I choose them because they were so unusual. I love them and having fresh floral around.

Grandparents are the best and I know for them it’s not work at all. They adore Ave so it’s a win all around.

I meant to get the sauce up this week but just felt kind of meh about writing a post. Hopefully next week. If not, I’ll email you the recipe though. I also have a long and slow pasta sauce but this one works on a weekday night when you want to eat quickly.
