Week in Review: The Arts and Entertainment Edition (#83)

May 15, 2017 by Meghan 35 Comments

Get your pads and pens ready because it’s time for the Week In Review.

The Week In Review is a list, in its purest form, not of the things you still need to do, but of all the things you have done in the last seven days. It’s an achievement list, an ode to yourself, a celebration of sorts, and a virtual pat on the back or smack on the ass. Wink, wink, nudge, nudge.

Need more details? Head here.

♫ You can do it, put your list into it. ♫

Let’s get listing:

Last week was filled with pomp and circumstance, also known as popcorn and movies. Happiness arrived at my house in a treasure box filled with popped corn, a snuggly blanket and award winning flicks.

I have to give a big shout out to G.H. Cretors for sending me such a thoughtful and tasty care package. I could blame the kid or the fact I’m over thirty, but at home movie nights are kind of my ideal way to spend an evening these days.

When they offered to send me this lovely little box fraught with my foodie version of fun, I jumped at the opportunity. Typically I make popcorn the old fashioned way, on the stove top, and it was refreshing to let someone else do the work. As a bonus, I didn’t have to clean the stove post consumption; cooking popcorn is a messy business.

As a result of their GMO free generosity, the Hubby and I watched three movies last week, although the popcorn only survived two. It was gone in a matter of mouth stuffing minutes. I have zero self control when it comes to tasty vittles, plus anything with cheese.

In return for my perfectly presented parcel of popcorn, I promised to share their product with my readers provided my position was favorable. I’m pretty sure you can tell which way I’m leaning. In fact, I’m looking forward to scoring a bag of the Dill Pickle flavor at Target this week.

In addition to our movie marathons (the arts), last week was filled with magical mayhem, also known as the entertainment portion of this post.

Specifically, I had lunch out with my girlfriends on Thursdays while my in-laws looked after the tiny human. After stuffing myself silly on tacos, I went home and worked in the yard with the Hubby for hours on end. It was labor intensive and rewarding.

Later on in the week, Ave and I even managed to plant a few flowers and some herbs; Oscar is pleased with the addition of catnip to our raised garden bed.

On Saturday night, I celebrated one of our friends birthday at a bar downtown. Ave was fascinated with my party shoes. I wonder if this is where the obsession will begin.

Last but not least, I made creamy potato soup with the kale I foraged from the edible fruit arrangement the week prior. And to think, my dad suggested I toss those greens in the trash. Pffft.

On that note, it’s your turn. I’d love to hear from you. Link up and get yo’ list on.

That popcorn looks absolutely amazingggg! I definitely need to find some. I usually make popcorn on the stove too, but it’s so convenient just to buy a bag. Hope you had a great Mothers Day Weekend!

Yes you most certainly do. It was fantastic. You can score the popcorn at Walgreens or Target.

LOVE those shoes!!! We had a movie night with popcorn and kids at the beach. It was the first one that the kids made it through a whole movie and it was glorious and will happen again soon. It really felt like “family night”, you know? Also, I planted catnip for my cat as a kid and it stayed perpetually flat from her big fat body rolling around in it. She looked drunk every time she came wandered back into the house.

I can’t wait until I can watch movies with Ave, although I think we have a few years yet.

Oscar has been stoned since last Thursday now. 🙂

I hope you had a wonderful Mothers Day. That popcorn sure looks good, as well as those tacos! I can’t believe I’m admitting this but when I was little I used to try my moms heals on and walk around the house in them. Unfortunately she has pictures, lots of pictures of it.

I loooove those party shoes. And I’m not even a party shoe kind of gal.
So last week I tried making homemade stove popcorn (only had ever done this once before – and it was amazing) but everything just burnt within seconds. I don’t know what I did wrong. I probably just need to stick to the bagged stuff…. like fake flowers. I’m really liking this company though, especially since they gave you and your hubby a few nights of pure relaxation. What was your favorite flavor?

I loved The Mix, which was a blend of caramel corn and cheddar corn. It was the perfect sweet and salty combination. The trick to stove top popcorn is two fold: 1) lots of oil and 2) once it starts popping, periodically dump the popcorn into a bowl. If you leave it in the pot too long, it will burn.

It was most definitely a good week, and I’m going out for a Mother’s Day brunch tomorrow (the Hubby worked this past weekend) which means a mimosa. Don’t worry, I’ll have one for you. 🙂

P.S. I had a nip or two of wine during the second and third trimester. Not a lot, but a sip here of there.

I did like Arrival. It was different and a click slow in places, but I was intrigued and into it. If you want I can send it to you….

Also, I tried to leave a comment on your blog yesterday but it kept asking me to sign in and then crashing. Boo hiss.

Hooray for party shoes. I need some new ones considering my tootsies are pink from all the dancing and jumping around like a monkey in cheap shoes. I was missing my own little monkey so I guess I felt compelled to behave like her.

For popcorn, I heat some oil in a large pot. I add two kernels and lid, and once they pop, I add about 1/2 to 3/4 cup of kernels. As they are popping, I periodically slip the lid off and dump the popped kernels into a bowl.

Mother’s Day was really nice and we’re celebrating again tomorrow. Hooray.

I’ve never been a big chip person, but I love popcorn so much I could eat it as a meal (actually I did on Sunday… Kernel’s caramel popcorn mmmm). Also LOVE your going out shoes.

3 things I accomplished in the last week: I made my mom spring pea soup (her favourite) as part of a Mother’s Day dinner (I’m even more proud of the fact that I was extremely hungover while doing so), I saw some friends from university that I haven’t seen in half a decade, and I went on some lovely early morning walks now that it’s light at 6 am!

I will happily devour a bag of chips (hello potatoes) or popcorn mainly because i love anything salty.

I think you’re big accomplishment is drinking enough to be hungover. Go you!! I’d eat the split pea soup too. Maybe you can teach Ave how to make it. 🙂

Now you, too! The internet has been telling me to get into popcorn making again lately – it’s been years; no corn in the pantry – and your post isn’t helping. Looking at that soup in there, too: cheesy popcorn-topped soup?! Tell me I’m not weird coming up with that idea right now [salty cravings, hey].
If it’s any relief ;): I never -really- got into shoes [okay, that’s a bit of a lie looking at number of pairs I own]. In fact, shoe shopping is still my least favourite activity while I tend to enjoy looking for dresses a little too much.
