Week in Review: Food, Family and Fatigue (#116)

January 22, 2018 by Meghan 28 Comments

Get you pads and pens ready because it’s time for the Week In Review.

The Week In Review is a list, in its purest form, not of the things you still need to do, but of all the things you have done in the last seven days. It’s an achievement list, an ode to yourself, a celebration of sorts, and a virtual pat on the back or smack on the ass. Wink, wink, nudge, nudge.

Need more details? Head here.

♫ You can do it, put your list into it. ♫

You guys!!! I’m running on empty. I overdid it last week, and all I want to do is curl up into a ball and sleep for days. I’d blame the tiny human, but truly it’s the book I’m currently devouring. I’ve been staying up waaaaayyyy too late reading it, only to need a nap the next day, which then allows me to stay up late again, pouring through the pages. It’s a vicious cycle.

On that note, let’s get listing:

I did a holy shitton of reading and subsequent napping.

I cleaned my oven, with baking soda and everything. Weird, but true.

I also did a spring cleaning of our staircase, complete with scrubbing stairs, baseboards and vacuuming the rug, only to have Oscar get sick all over the steps a day later. I’m pretty sure it’s a sign I should just let the house go completely.

(The Culprit)

Ave and I did our weekly activity circuit: story time, swim lessons and music class. She also spent two days hanging with grandma and grandpa. This kid gets around.

We had Ave’s bestie over for dinner one night followed by a rousing and riveting play date. Balloons make everything better, and these clowns make me laugh.

I hosted one of my girlfriends for an evening gab session, complete with fruit, veggies, cheese and of course, wine.

The Hubby and I burned through a gift card and had a rare evening out. The pasta was good, the company was better.

I hit up Bar 32 for a sponsored food event through Mouthwater Media. They plied me with pretzels, pizza, booze, specifically bourbon, and the best view of downtown Cleveland. I love my city and being a blogger; it has its perks.

Ave and I spent the vast majority of the weekend hanging with family since the Hubby’s uncle is in town for a bit. He managed to win Ave over with potato chips, which is the way to my heart too, especially when dip is involved.

Last but not least, I spent an afternoon with my bestie and her daughter. They came bearing wine and puffs. Something for us, something for the kiddos.

After reading through all this, it’s possible more than my book is to blame for the exhaustion.

Now it’s your turn. I’d love to hear from you. Link up and get yo’ list on.

Holy smokes what are we going to do with you. You wild woman, staying up way past your bed time.

Nah, apart from your current feeling of fatigue, I’m glad to hear it. Must be a good page turner then. And, so much girlfriend time!! I like this week very much. Now go nap it off.

I’ve been napping it off all week and then staying up late again. It’s a cycle. Dammit. 🙂

I gotta try that oven cleaning trick. Ours is NASTY.

What book were you reading? If it got you up in the wee hours of the night, I’d love the recommendation. Get some sleep Meghan!

The book is The Assasin’s Apprentice by Hobb. It’s the first of a trilogy and now I’m already on the third one. It’s a fantasy novel and I’m hooked.

Ugh! sPrInG cleaning?? Really? Did you know it’s still January? But do I ever love an optimist! You balance out my darker side and cheer my days. Truly! I have S?A.D. but year round. Or maybe it was that postpartum depression that has hung on for 44 years, lol!

And if I had such a cozy reading nook as you I would snuggle in after the House got quiet too, forgetting all about any old sleeping needs. Shuteye? Who needs that with all the coffee beand we’ve got stashed.

All of that sponsors food! Looks simply Devine! I’d give up my right arm (it’s never gonna be the same anyway) for a few unrestricted meals like that.

And with everything you manage to pack into your days it is no wonder you’re exhausted at the end of the week. As if the week ever really ends for a new mom, lol! Best of all isn’t watching the toddlers squeezing as I thought it would be! It was hearing you belly laugh in the midst of the chaos. Because that is the best medicine for tired and the reward for every wrong in our world. Hibernating in our little cocoon of happiness for a minute of relief.

Then sharing it so others can have some too!

The tiny humans wear me out and brink me to the brink of madness and yet minutes later, they make me smile and laugh so hard. Ahhh parenting.

I’d share my tasty vittles with you; no need to trade in an arm. 🙂

Blame it on the books and babies, err, toddlers. Maybe that’s actually true because mum duties = no time to read during the day = staying up late. Totally makes sense to me. My sister’s the same, only for her it’s staying up to sew. Really, though, I’ve said it before and will – apparently – say it again: keeping a toddler occupied for a day would exhaust me so … yeah.
I like how [comparably] much adult fun times you had. Date night with the hubby, girls night and that delicious blogger event – sounds really really good to me.

All the social and adult time was fabulous even if it did contribute to my late nights. I had to fit my “me” time in somewhere.

My in-laws are the best. I’d be lost without their help because toddlers are all encompassing.

I need a nap just reading this. Was wine night any wilder than the last one? The mental image still makes me laugh. I mean, I expect this behavior from me… but you?!

    Baby laughs are too cute.

No, wine night was a much milder affair, thankfully. I needed mild. Now when you come to town, it’ll be a different story. Speaking of which, we have to pencil you in.

The Assasin’s Apprentice by Hobb. It was the first in a trilogy and last night I started book three. It’s fantasy novel, and it reminds me of Rothfuss’ The Name of the Wind, Harry Potter, and Game of Thrones all rolled into one. If you like fantasy, you’ll probably love it. It’s very well written and bonus points because the author is a woman.

That week does sound exhausting….but in a good way (well, maybe more of a necessary way as regards the housecleaning)! Reading is pretty much the only thing that can keep me up past my bedtime. I’m trying to restrict the fiction reading to weekends at the moment, because yeah…it’s a vicious cycle.

Haha I definitely think there is more to it than just your book! 😉
The humidity here is crazy right now so everyone is tired and cranky. Honestly even with 8 hours sleep per night I wake up exhausted. So all I want to do is nap too… And I have had a couple.
    Date nights for the win!

Wow cleaning the oven with baking soda sounds like a seriously rewarding task; however difficult. And I’m so glad you got reading done. Last week I was at my grandparents, and it was such a blessing getting time to read that I don’t normally get to read.

And that spread of pizza looks AMAZING. Can I have some?

I’d say just let the house go down! Especially when you have much better stuff to do! I had a wine date with some friends last weekend and it was so good! Sometimes you just need the girlfriends and some booze!
As I don’t really have much better stuff to do I am more than excited to spring clean my office. Once the thesis is defended I am throwing away everything that remotely reminds me of it. This clutter is annoying me for at least a year now. I know you can understand my enthusiasm 🙂
P.S. Ave cracks me up every time I open IG stories 😀

Girlfriends and booze tend to go hand in hand, along with a side of cheese.

I absolutely get your enthusiasm. I couldn’t wait to get rid of all the clutter (the paper, the books etc) that came with the Hubby’s schooling. I’m so glad that’s over.

Is the book that’s been keeping you up the one you told me about? I still need to pick that sucked up, but I think I might just have to order it online since I can’t find it in any stores here. I’m still making my way through Name of the Wind, and it’s going to take me months because I only manage a handful of pages before I pass out for the night.
