Since April has come and almost gone, I think it’s high time for a Currently post, maybe even past due although we’ll just ignore that small fact. Let’s just say I’m fashionably late to the party, without the stylish attire since I’m rocking some fantastic grey sweatpants and a Mighty Ducks hoodie. On that note, let’s play.
Current Book: I am engaged in the unthinkable, at least for me. I am working my way through two books at once; promiscuous reading at its finest. One is what I like to call “A Book Book,” which means I can hold it in my hands and flip the pages as I see fit.
Stephen King: A Memoir of the Craft – On Writing
He would be appalled by my use of adverbs.
Current Nail Color: hell has not frozen over, although I did paint my nails, in honor of a fancy date night with the Hubby. We had some celebrating to do.
Current Music: No music, but about my promiscuous reading…I’ve been listening to an audio book, one recommended by my favorite Spoon. It’s fantasy ear porn and I am hooked.
Patrick Rothfuss: The Name of the Wind
Current Non-Guilty Pleasure: inhaling the smell of these stargazer lilies on the daily. They’re over the top and pungent, just how I like my men…er I mean flowers. Excuse my Freudian slip.
Current Drink: still guzzling Peanut Butter Chocolate Smoothies. In fact, I had one as recently as yesterday, and it was real good.
Current Food: while I do eat other foods, asparagus is high on my list right now, making the most appearances at my table, which makes growing my own a no brainer.
Oscar is skeptical of phallic veggies and inspects everything which pops up and out of the dirt in our raised garden bed.
Current Favorite Show: Game of Thrones, mostly because Daenerys Targaryen is a badass, and she owns dragons.
(source)
Current Wish List: to wave my magic wand and have my flower beds completely cleaned out and trenched, my trees trimmed, my hedges shorn and my driveway edged. A girl can dream.
Current Blessing: getting to spend quality time with the Hubby. He’s between school semesters, which means he’s footloose and fancy free for the next two weeks.
Current Indulgence: the Hubby and I went all spontaneous (yes, it was awkward for me) and booked a short trip to San Diego. We’re taking full advantage of his time off.
Current Needs: I’d be thrilled with some seventy-five degree weather right about now, so I can knock out said yard work before the neighbors report us to the city. I did get my Christmas lights down earlier this month so that’s something.
Current Triumphs: overhauling my Recipe Index with sparkly, shiny, new clickable picture galleries for each section. For my fellow bloggers, I’m using the WP Gallery Custom Links plugin. It’s awesome.
Current Bane of Existence: the downtown farmers market, the one I normally hit up on my Friday afternoon lunch hour, is no more. I’m heartbroken over this news.
Current Excitement: getting to see Amanda’s crazy mug in just a few weeks at Blend 2015. Perhaps next year, Arman will join us.
Current Links: This article from The Huffington Post Canada, showcasing my Broccoli Cheddar Quiche. Anytime someone picks up one of my recipes, I get ridiculously happy.
Current Mood: asked and answered. My partner in crime is home. I’ve got travel on the horizon, flowers adorning my kitchen counter and asparagus in my garden; two good books and a popping new recipe index, I’d say life doesn’t get much better.
Your turn. What’s Currently going on in your world? Current book? Current mood? Any travel on the horizon? Will you be planting a garden this Spring?

I’m bad at reading 2 books at once. I have to immerse myself in one and then mourn it when it’s over before moving onto the next! Go you for booking a spontaneous trip! As awkward as it is it’s so nice to take advantage and step out when the opportunity presents itself π

I can understand. I usually like to finish one before starting the next. This book promiscuity has me torn all up inside. π
I’m so excited for the trip. I guess spontaneity ain’t all bad.

I read the weather bit wrong. I thought you were saying you were enjoying the 75 degree weather, and I was like, “I know she is in Ohio. Is she fibbin’?????”
This weather sucks huh? π

Do you know I have never read a single Stephen King book? I need to rectify (my favourite word) this immediately. One of my closest friends recently suggested I read Amy Poehler’s “Yes Please” so I downloaded the audiobook and I… well, I hated it. It wasn’t funny, and I’d even go so far as to say it was completely boring. I ended up deleting it off my phone, and I paid $25 for it. DOH.

Stephen King is one of my favorite authors. For real, go read one of his books. His writing is amazingly descriptive. I can get lost in his stories and characters.

I know you’re not meant to judge a book by it’s cover but that Stephen King cover sure is beautiful.
I’m actually reading a book outside of my studies for once, it may be slightly political and completely non-fiction but I’m geeking out and loving it.
Enjoy San Diego!

Hahahaha I am completely in love with your isea of “promiscuous reading”. I used to take part in those types of scandalous affairs before, but lately I’ve just felt so uninspired by books. I think I just need a really good one to set me back on track!
Also, Game of Thrones is my life. SO GOOD.

I adore asparagus and have had some local early season recently – it was foodie heaven! Finding local is hard at the moment though not much to be had… Hopefully this will all change soon, local always tastes best (otherwise ours comes shipped in from Peru!!)

Oh joy! I love it all. Of course you like the queen of dragons on my favorite show, of course you do!!! She’s my favorite as well. And I fu$!ing love that the actress turned down the offer to star in the next 50 shades movie. Too beneath her, hell to the yeah. Gotta love a woman who knows who the heck she is and turns down something that many would pounce on. Meowwwee indeed.
Hubbs and I are planning a trip to DC for July 4 and will see my crazy cuzin. I’m preparing myself now otherwise it could hurt.
Our new residence is in the awesome part of town so we have been walking to as many places as possible. For me I have found bliss… City meets greenery meets foodie heaven. Bliss!

DC will be a ton of fun, especially over the fourth of July weekend. I expect to see lots of shenanigans on Instagram.

Any possible way you could take a detour to Alberta on your way home from San Diego? Just a small one? No? FINE. At least I’ll get to see YOUR crazy mug in just a few short weeks π And admit it… you got totally giddy over the fact that you could answer the nail polish question with something other than clear or Sally Hansen’s nail strengthener. Shoot, I should have mentioned this in our email exchange. The recipe plugin is super easy to use. I watched a two minute youtube video on it and was an expert overnight. The time investment comes from creating the galleries with the clickable links. For me, it was a lot of time because my recipes were all over the place. If you’ve got some organization to start, it’s a pretty easy job. Without that, I’d say I invested a good 20 hours over the course of a couple months in the project. I had to go back to the beginning of my blog time though. I absolutely recommend it. Spoons uses it too.
