Get your pads and pens ready because it’s time for the Week In Review.
The Week In Review is a list, in its purest form, not of the things you still need to do, but of all the things you have done in the last seven days. It’s an achievement list, an ode to yourself, a celebration of sorts, and a virtual pat on the back or smack on the ass. Wink, wink, nudge, nudge.
Need more details? Head here.
♫ You can do it, put your list into it. ♫
Let’s get listing:
Ave and I were adventurers last week. We went to Nature’s Bin, the post office, the park multiple times, we got the car washed and we even hit up Target. I figure it’s high time I put this little munchkin to work.
(She’s working on perfecting her sweet and innocent look.)
We read buckets of books, including Fartsy Claus and rocked out on our play mat, which involved smacking the monkey, and for once, I don’t mean it like that.
We Face Timed with Grandma and Grandpa on more than one occasion.
(“Oh sure mom. Choose the picture where you’re smiling and I’m drooling. Nice, real nice.”)
We went to our weekly lactation support group meeting where all the tatas go to party.
Speaking of parties, we had a play date in the park with some friends.
(This is the moment I realized despite chopping off all my hair so I don’t have to deal with it, I’m going to be doing Ave’s hair for the next however many years. Mental note, I need to teach the Hubby how to do a French braid.)
We had multiple baths because our necks (or lack thereof) were starting to smell. Those little folds are harbingers of filth, also known as old milk and drool.
(She is kind of cute. I guess we’ll keep her.)
We did some weeding. Well, really I did all the work while Ave supervised. She’s a total task master, cracking the whip at every opportunity.
(“Who said you could take a break. Back to work,” I say.)
To decompress, I went for a run, which made my feet happy; my head too.
I nursed Ave a total of 16 hours.
I planted flowers and thanks to my father in law, I got my garden established for the summer. Better late than never.
I kept it simple this year with just a few tomato plants, three zucchini plants, some volunteer squash, a couple of bell peppers, a smattering of herbs and of course some catnip for Oscar and Sam.
(♫ “Everybody must get stoned,” ♫ except pregnant women and nursing moms; then it’s a big no-no.)
I also packed up a box of maternity clothes and got my summer wardrobe out, even though nothing fits…yet, that is.
In the world of adulting, I ran errands with Ave in tow (see above), paid bills, vacuumed the first floor of the house (not that you could tell now), unloaded the dishwasher daily and folded mountains of laundry. Yes mountains.
On Saturday, the whole family went to dinner at our friends house for some deep dish pizza and baby snuggles. Somebody was a little cranky though, and I don’t mean me; not saying any names, of course. Cough, Ave, cough.
On Sunday night, I tackled the Kohlrabi we got in our CSA share and made Curry Kohlrabi Corn Fritters with an Herbed Yogurt Sauce from Eating Well. They were good, although truth be told, I like my own recipe for Kohlrabi Fritters a click better; mainly because they have cheese. Obviously.
The highlight of the week though (sorry Ave) was drinks and appetizers with the Hubby on Friday night. We hit up Forage Public House, one of my favorite local restaurants for cocktails and charcuterie while the grandparents stayed with the tiny human.
It was magical.
Updated to Add: And I stayed up way past my bedtime last night to watch the Cleveland Cavaliers make NBA history and clinch the championship.
Worth it.
It’s your turn. I want to hear from you. Link up and get yo’ list on.
What are three things you accomplished in the last week?
meredith @ cookie chrunicles says
ugh I have mountains of laundry lately too. I folded some and have been ignoring a load in the dryer for a few days lol. thanks for the link up!

It took me three days to fold all the clothes, and I’m pretty sure things sat in the dryer for the first two days. 🙂

Happy solstice sweet mama!!! Little Ave is simply adorable, I love her all sprawling out on the blanket. What a nice life:-)
I finished my last day of teaching and have been doing all the last minute stuff, which includes eating out and having lunches and dinners with adults. Painting as much as I can for distraction and fun. Had a couple false alarm evenings, nothing like a little practice for the big day haha. Mainly projecting all my emotions onto my dogs.. They are getting lots of strange attention lately but not complaining.

I’m going to a solstice party in the park tonight. You would love it.
I bet the dogs are loving it.

Ave is going to have the most beautiful collection of photos to look back on….oh my gosh. You really have a talent for capturing moments, ya know that? I wonder if she’ll be able to look back at all these blog posts in like, 20 years… like we do with baby albums or home videos. She’ll feel like such a celebrity. Which she obviously already knows.
This week rocks. Yay for getting your garden up and running (ours is super late this year) and yay for getting out for drinks with the hubs! Both must have felt soooo good.

It is pretty cool to have a weekly journal (if you will) of her early days. She’ll probably be mortified when she’s a teenager and then love it when she’s older. At least that’s what I’m hoping.

I need you to make me the kolrabi fritters when I’m there. And I love that you got to have date with the hubby! That’s awesome. You = champ.
Speaking of: ‘keep it simple’ in the garden?! I have a few roses and lavender on my balcony. How do you call that….below simple?? 🙂

I think roses and lavender are perfect. Did your mom plant them? I bet the lavender smells fantastic.

Meghan,
Last week by the numbers:
8 alumni
7 cousins
4 aunts
3 uncles
2 Weimaraners
1 terrific trip escorting my folks to my dad’s 70th high school reunion
You and Ave look terrific, as does your garden. My cucumbers woke up and got with the program while I was away (to the tune of 2 feet worth of vine growth in 4 days) which is terrific because my cousin will give me her pickle recipe. Which rocks.
I’m jonesing for charcuterie. That must have been a wonderful meal out just the two of you!

All those people and fur babies…..now that is an accomplishment.
I’m hoping one of my volunteer squash is a cucumber. Fingers crossed.

Ave keeps getting cuter and looking more like you 🙂 Three things I accomplished in this past week were dehydrating mangoes, cleaning the shower and finishing my “home gym”

I am as always so impressed by your gardening skills. Mine are none existent though I keep the basil plant and the mint plant in my kitchen alive for several weeks already and I occasionally even water them.
Also even though I have pretty long hair I’d be at a loss when it comes to deal with someone elses. Even my own when I think about it. In the past I might have made Stefan braid my hair multiple times 😛
You’ve been a rock star last week! And I love that you two went on a date <3

The only time my girl has cute hair is when her day care teachers do something with it. I am so hopeless when it comes to braids and cute girly hair styles.
That charcuterie selection looks so good. I think the highlight of my month is going to be finally going on a date after months of not. Completely unacceptable!

I figure I’ve got a couple years before I have to start messing with her hair….right?
Yes, you absolutely need to go on a date. Months is way too long, although I can see how it happens.

Joyce @ The Hungry Caterpillar says
How much I miss having a garden. One of these days. I mean, I can’t have a garden at the moment because I live in staff housing…in the mountains…with an incredible view out my window…so I really can’t complain. 😉 Still: “What would life be without homegrown tomatoes?”
Only 16 hours of nursing? Nice work!
Kohlrabi fritters sound amazing. Once I was at a farmers’ market, and one of the farmers’ wanted to give me a run for my money, so he said, “What’s this called?” When I knew what it was called, he asked how to spell it. I guess not that many people know how to spell kohlrabi.
Awesome that you got to get out with your hubby for a night! That meal looks very German.

I nearly spewed my wine at the smacking the monkey. That would have been sad. As sad waste of a mouthful. #TWSS
She cute as shit. For real. You got lucky. She doesn’t look at all like a monkey alien like other babies!
Please pass the cheese and pretzels. And beer. Mmmmm…
P.S. You need to teach that kid to fold the laundry!

We did get lucky in the cute department since most babies are wrinkly messes and only cute to mom and dad. As soon as Ave figures out she has hands, I’m putting her to work chopping veggies. Alright fine, maybe I’ll start with laundry and no sharp utensils.
I will take you to that restaurant when you come to Cleveland. You’ll love it. Fun cocktails, fabulous food, locally sourced, and within walking distance.

Awesome week Meg – really does look like you and Ave and syncing up together nicely! You just need to convince her now that pizza parties are a place of fun, not a time to be miss cranky pants 😉
I may need to try those fritters out as kohlrabi is always plentiful at our farmers market though. Your cheese version though… Because cheese, always!
Have a fab week lovely!

Agreed, pizza parties are always fun. The problem was she missed her afternoon nap and it went downhill from there. The kid loves her sleep although getting her to go down is not always easy.
Yes, yes, yes try the fritters. They’re really good and I like to see kohlrabi get some love.

I care 0% about basketball most of the time…but that game was absolutely insane. Congrats to Cleveland!!
PS- My mom gave me and my brother the same haircut as kids so don’t worry too much about having to do Ave’s hair. She might complain to you in 20 years that she did not appreciate having a bowl cut as a child, but will eventually forgive you.
Meghan says
I think I may have sported the bowl cut for a time or two growing up as well. 🙂 Luckily my hair dresser is a great friend so she’ll hook Ave up for sure.

Look at youuuu kicking ass and taking names! It’s good to see you feeling more and more like a human being again 🙂 Also, I have absolutely no interest in basketball (I blame it on being Canadian), but I did watch a bit of that game and I thought of you when Cleveland won. That’s pretty epic.
Also, your mention of Ave’s neck folds stinking up made me think of a friend who has to clean his pug’s face wrinkles with a Q-tip to keep them from smelling. I honestly had no idea what was even a thing!

That game was epic and I’m not a huge basketball person either. It’s been a huge plus for the city and everybody has been going crazy this week because of it.
You have to clean the folds on pugs faces….wow, I had no idea.

Miss Polkadot says
Yes, I say keep her ;). Seriously, Ave is SO cute.Just watch her breaking boys’ hearts all around sooner than you’d know. The French braid will help there.
“vacuumed the first floor of the house (not that you could tell now)” <- my thoughts whenever I add cleaning the apartment to my weeks in review. I have no idea how something can take way longer to clean than get dirty again. It makes me go back and forth between wanting to clean every day [not happening] or not at all.
Yay to date nights with the hubby. When she's a teenager Ave will try to send you off for those all the time – when the cat's away, the mice can play. Isn't that what they say?

I swear the second I finish vacuuming, the cats go into whatever room and just drop buckets of fur. Sometimes I think they do it to spite me.
I don’t even want to think of Ave as a teenager, especially when I remember my own teen years. I was a wild child.
