Get your pads and pens ready because it’s time for the Week In Review.
The Week In Review is a list, in its purest form, not of the things you still need to do, but of all the things you have done in the last seven days. It’s an achievement list, an ode to yourself, a celebration of sorts, and a virtual pat on the back or smack on the ass. Wink, wink, nudge, nudge.
Need more details? Head here.
♫ You can do it, put your list into it. ♫
Let’s get listing:
I had an impromptu coffee date at Play Grounds Cafe with my girl Tricia from Planes, Trains and All Our Meals. Caffeinated mom blogger party for the win.
We made another round of chili along with some homemade mac n cheese, because in this house we’re weird and love the combination mixed together. It’s Ave’s job to wash the tomatoes and dump in the beans.
(This is an old picture, but the context is the same. Thank you for understanding I don’t take pictures of every second of my day; just every other second.)
We hit up Toddler Treats at the library and did a rousing round of bean bag rock. It’s as exciting as it sounds; for Ave, anyway.
After that, I spent the next three days with my head down and my sleeves rolled up on behalf of City Hippie. I made 12, yes 12, different granola flavors, which means baking, grocery shopping, label making, and packaging. It was a shitton of work, and I loved it.
(♫ I’m a hustler baby. I just want you to know. It ain’t where I been. But where I’m bout to go.♫)
We bid a fond farewell to summer with a final trip to the beach on our last 80 plus degree day for the foreseeable future. My tiny human loves the water; soccer’s not bad either.
I got to have some sister-in-law bonding time over mimosas one day and manicures the next. Of course, Ave requested to have her nails painted too.
(A toddler with black nails, totally appropriate.)
It wasn’t all glamorous though, especially when chocolate ice cream was involved. It sure was tasty.
Last but not least, we spent the majority of Saturday at a wedding for a family friend. Everything was lovely from the ceremony to the vegan reception, although I’m certainly glad wine falls in the vegan category.
(The bride made her own dress! It had pockets!!)
Now it’s your turn. I’d love to hear from you. Link up and get yo’ list on.
What is something you accomplished in the last week? Big or small.
Danielle says
I’m so envious of living nearby the beach. I think we need to move. The water calls me. I like the black toddler nails! And Ave is quite the helper. What a lovely week. Gorgeous wedding. Productive boss mommy killing it!
Meghan@CleanEatsFastFeets says
The water being so close makes me happy. It’s soothing for the soul.
Cora says
1) I think chili and mac and cheese are MADE for each other. Not weird at all in my world.
2) Twelve. Holy shibus! I can’t even come up with that many different granola flavors in my imagination, yet alone actually create them. I want to know the new flavors!
3) That picture of you and Ave with both your nails painted is THE BEST.
4) That is a brilliant bride. Pockets in dresses are everything!
Meghan says
Not only did the bride have pockets in the dress, but the bottom half came off during the reception for better dancing. AND, she’s going to dye it black so she can wear it again. Genius.
All the granola flavors are in the recipe archives for the blog, although I’m not sure for how much longer. I’m still debating whether to keep them up or take them down.

Twelve!! That’s a lot of granola flavors…and a lot of granola for 3 days. Are you granola-d out now? Is that possible?
Meghan says
Since I merely tasted the 12 flavors, I’m definitely not granoled out, although I’m gonna need better shoes for standing on my feet all day and cooking in the kitchen.

Hi Meghan!
I am a long time reader! (I think 4 or more years) and I came here from Peas and Crayons on the glorious days of WIAW (good old times!!!).
I love your blog, I never miss a Week in a Review (my favorite!) and I love your blog! I am so happy and glad you started with this granola business and that you love it!!! I remember your post talking about it when you said “it was a dream I never knew I had” or something like that LOL …I really loved it.
I am thinking on leaving my full time job to take care of my baby (11 months old now) and I am always thinking on this kind of personal projects that probably I will love… but I am too afraid always. What did you do before when working in a office? Do you feel you love more this beautiful project?
I will happy to read your experience!
so happy for you! I will keep following your adventures! Thanks!
Marcela.

What a wonderful comment. I’m so glad you enjoy the blog.
In my former life, I was an Accounting Manager at a law firm, and while I enjoyed the challenge, I was ready for a change, although I’m not sure being a stay at home is the best for me. I love the tiny human, but damned if being with her all day isn’t the hardest thing ever. At the same time, I think I’ll look back and be so glad I did this because I’ll never get these moments with her again.
For me, turning City Hippie granola into a business happened on a whim. I always knew I would need something more to occupy my time and challenge me in ways different than motherhood. The granola business kind of fell into my lap, and I ran with it, and it just felt right, so thus far, it has proven to be a success even just from a personal satisfaction standpoint. Not monetary yet, but hopefully that will come with time and experience. 🙂 If you can stay at home with the kiddo, I say go for it, and then just wait and see what opportunities arise and follow your heart.
Please feel free to ask me any follow up questions. Whatever you decide, I’m rooting for you. 🙂

Thanks a lot for your sincere response! I will be thinking on this (I have been thinking on it almost 8 months LOL) but it is always helpful to read/see other experiences.I feel I need also a change in my career path, but it is hard to take the decision. I will ask you for sure if I have any other question!

That picture of Ave eating her chocolate cone is a keeper! I would totally frame it. Be sure to show it to her prom date in 16 years or so! 🙂
I have never made the chili/mac n cheese combination, but I can’t eat mac n cheese without stewed tomatoes. I have been making that every other week to use up all of these gorgeous tomatoes.
Meghan says
Another fun mac n cheese trick is to add a jar of salsa. It dresses it right up with loads of flavor.

I’m stuck on the bride making her own dress. I can’t even sew on a button! There’s no hope for my domestication.
Annnnd now I was chocolate ice cream.
Meghan says
The bride made the dress so the bottom half came off during the reception and it turned into a flirty knee length dress. Genius.

Now that’s a good girl job right there! Bean and tomato dumper would go perfectly on her resume. And those nails! She sure is growing up. 🙂
Holy guacamole! 12 kinds of granola?!! You’re a beast. That wedding does sound pretty lovely.

Wow, that setting for your friend’s wedding!! And your caption for Ave’s manicure photo totally made me laugh. This past weekend I took Squish to her toddler dance class. Watching her participate in that ‘I’m-not-really-sure-where-I-am’ toddler kind of way was awesome. We’ve also been going to the big farmer’s market around here every week. It closes soon until next spring and I love going so we try to go as much as we can. I’d love to hear some of your other granola flavors!
Meghan says
I have a ton of granola flavors: Almond Mango, Banana Bread, Orange Cranberry, Lemon Blueberry, Coconut Lime Pineapple, Double Chocolate Coconut, Smickerdoodle, Trail Mix.

What a lovely week! We are starting to really feel the beginnings of spring here. The flowers and greenery have been out for a few weeks now but I feel like the sun is finally catching up with them and bringing some heat! I’m hoping the real hot hot heat stays away for a little bit and we get more of an actual ‘spring’. Here in Western Australia we are known for only really having two seasons, summer and winter!
Meghan says
Here’s to hoping you get a little bit of Spring. We are full on embracing fall over here. Well except pumpkin because I’m stubborn.

Why have I never put chili and Mac and cheese together? Must do that!
Your flavor imagination for the granola is so impressive!
Meghan says
Thank you. You gotta mix it up and keep things fresh so lots of flavors helps.
