I thought about skipping a full day of food and instead doing a themed What I Wednesday post today. Can you imagine?
After all that talk last week, or really the one way conversation where I rambled on and on and you got to listen. At least,I hope you listened. If not, you better give me your hands, palms down, because I’m about to rap your knuckles with a ruler.
Is that even still allowed?
Setting violence aside…for now anyway, if you bypassed that particular post, you missed out and todays might be a little hard to follow since I’m going for Round Two. I love going for Round Two (and marital bliss because I’m pretty sure the two are intertwined).
Since I huffed and puffed so much last week, I knew I had to share a full day of food, although I had no intentions of giving you a weekend because I’ve been there and done that. I was thinking I’d mix things up and give you all the deets on my week day eats. Then I realized my Saturday’s stone cold munching… ♫ Next days function, high class luncheon, Food they’re serving, you’re stone-cold munchin… ♫ Sorry, I got distracted by the Young MC; happens all the time.
Back to the food, my Saturday eats were downright shameful. Alright, they weren’t exactly shameful. It’s possible I’m exaggerating, albeit only slightly, because there was some good bits in there too. The real reason I decided to share Saturday was because it was a bit of wake up call for me, and like I said last week, WIAW is all about learning.
Let’s begin (ignoring the entire intro, which you do at your own risk and with the full understanding I have a ruler and I’m not shy about using it).
Breakfast was half of an Almond Apricot scone from the Breadsmith. If I wasn’t already a taken woman, I would consider marrying the Breadsmith. I realize it’s odd and who knows if I’ll even be afforded wedded bliss since it defies our social norms, but I don’t care. Also, I don’t have amazing self-control; the Hubby ate the other half. I’m a big believer on equitable marriages between whomever and going for round two.
(This is not my picture, but it does do the scone justice. (source))
My next meal, eaten much later in the day, was a cross between second breakfast and lunch. I call it the Breakfast Pizza. It was a combination of scrambled eggs, sautéed onions, garlic, hot peppers, topped with mozzarella, garlic and herb cheese, diced tomatoes and chopped chives all on a bed of dill pizza dough. I impressed even myself; happens all the time. 😉
I followed up this beautiful pizza with a fistful of garbage, nasty chemicals, and unpronounceable ingredients. This is a recycled picture from last Halloween, but the end result was pretty much the same: jittery regret.
I put down a Mediterranean Platter for dinner. The hummus was so silky smooth, I wanted to lick the bowl clean. Too bad I was sharing with other people. That might have gone beyond the double dipping boundaries. The only thing not pictured was the delicious pitas, which became my vehicles to those bowls of goodness: Hummus, Tabbouleh, and Baba Ganooj.
My main course was a spinach salad topped with strawberries, mandarin oranges, mushrooms, hardboiled eggs, red onions, and a balsamic vinaigrette put on post picture. I ate about three-quarters of the salad.
Had I stopped there, I might have been alright with my day of food, but I couldn’t leave well enough alone. Actually, the Hubby couldn’t leave well enough alone, so I blame him 100% for what came next. He ordered a slice of German chocolate cake to take home. As much as I’d like to tell you it didn’t happen, a fork most certainly made its way into my hand and subsequently that slice of cake….multiple times. I did say I’m a big believer in equitable marital distribution.
What did we learn from this kids?
Well, I learned I’m on a sugar high. It turns out I ate something sweet with every single meal on Saturday which is a lot, even for me. I also put down a ton of other sweets earlier in the week, with a few more thrown in on Sunday. Yep, I’m on a full-fledged sugar bender, and that my friends is not healthy, which is why I’ve had to break up with sugar.
That’s it! It’s over! I’m done with the white devil! We are through!
…..For at least a whole week, or until I can stop craving it like an HLB’er jonesing for their nut butter. To be clear, fruits and my more natural sweeteners (maple syrup and honey) will always have a place in my diet, and I will embrace the white stuff once more; once I can learn how to give it a gentle my boob are touching you hug versus a full on body tackle.
Have you learned anything about your own eats from WIAW? If so, what?
I normally home more of a sweet tooth but that mezze platter has my name all over it right now- YUM! I love that you aren’t including fruit & natural sugars in your sugar ban- smart way to go about it. Believe it or not, I’ve never actually done a WIAW but I’m sure it would tell me that I go into food grooves a lot! If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it right ;)!
I don’t think I could ever give up fruit or my natural sweeteners. I have too much of a sweet tooth and I couldn’t sustain not eating it every again. Can you imagine me without a #publicbanana. Oh the horror?!
Yes, I’ve learned that my food is Never as pretty as Yours!! 😉 Love the breakfast pizza. Also I need to eat wherever it was that you got the Mediterranean platter. Love it! Have a great day, Meghan!!
That’s not true. You’ve got some great looking omelets and your ice cream cones. They make me swoon.
Oh that breakfast scone looks so good! My stepdad makes the best scones, I always love breakfasts around the holidays when I’m home and he makes them. The breadsmith looks like they have pretty great scones too!
Alright I’m jealous, and I need to meet your stepdad stat!
At least you squeezed some vegetables in there! You live and you learn right? Plus we all need those sugar laden days. And that pizza literally blew my mind. I promise to withhold sweets from you if you make me that pizza!!!
I was totally craving the vegetables most likely because all of the sugar. I also started my morning smoothie routine back up with lots of greens so I know my body was hungry for some nutritionally dense food.
I will make you the pizza and if you give me a week or so, I will take the sweets as well.
Beautiful pizza, my mouth is watering as we speak. As for the sugar, I have enjoyed too much of the stuff in the past days. Like you I’m like craving it like crazy since I’m breaking up with it too. Yesterday I found myself devouring a bag of gluten free cookies I bought for my kids. Sad, so sad to see myself go into these bad habits I thought were gone 🙁
I think I need to go to rehab jajajaja
Old habits die hard. Plus sugar is such a slippery slope. For me, I’ll always need some in my life, although I do need to make sure some doesn’t become more often than not.
We can detox together. I’ve got your back through the sugar sweats and night jitters. 🙂
That cake 😯 😯 OH.LAWD. My sweet tooth is ridiculous, so I completely understand the fork, cake, mouth phenomenon.
I’m glad you decided to post another full day of eats — we’re trying to start a movement here, remember? 😉 I’ve learned quite a bit from WIAW… First, that I get stuck in breakfast ruts. Second, that I’ll happily eat breakfast all day if I can. Third, that I am a snacking FIEND. I’m sure there’s more lessons, but those are the ones that come to mind right now.
Movements can be tough, but I’m still game and next week I am going to aim for a random weekday since my eats are usually pretty different during the week when compared to the weekend.
I’m happy to know I’m not the only one who can get stuck in breakfast ruts.
Oh YUM that breakfast pizza looks so good. Is that store bought dough?! I really must make that.
Yes, the dough is actually from the Westside Market here in Cleveland. The company is Frickaccios and they are fabulous and also sold at my local mom and pop grocery store for $1.99. http://www.frickaccios.com/
That scone.. that cake. Mmmmm.
Yup, they were good.
Ugh. I had a very similar pile of wrappers on my coffee table this weekend. I wanted it so badly, devoured every sugary, chemically morsel, and then sat with a sour stomach and a worse conscience. I’d say it was well worth it though. I have ZERO cravings for any of the 10 lbs of Halloween candy sitting on my counter. I danced with the devil and that will hold me over until Thanksgiving pies. 🙂
If it happened only once I’d probably agree with you. I did it on multiple occasions over the course of last week. I took the rest of the leftover candy and donated it to Packages for the Troops. That made my conscience feel good.
Mmmm Thanksgiving pies….will you be in Cleveland by chance?
Boobs. Scones. Pizza (breakfast pizza F’n genius by the way). And Sugar. I like this post.
I like to hit all the key points. 😉
Breakfast pizza is the best thing ever!! It is a really big deal here in the Midwest. It always cracks me up when people have never heard of it/don’t know what I’m referring to when I talk about it.
I’ve actually only had it once years ago and that was in Buffalo. Apparently, it stuck with me though, long enough to recreate this.
SO I just need to say I died at your comment about round two..ALWAYS go for round two. BAHAHA…oh man sometimes being single SUCKS BALLS! Sorry…TMI..OK MOVING ON! These eats look so good, including the sweets..I eat SOO many sweets sometimes that I have to cut myself off for a few days! Balance is KEY!
Yeah sorry about that buddy. I’ll share some kitty pictures on the Gram. While it’s not Round Two, I know you like the putty dats.
Yep, balance is the key. I’ll be back to my sweets soon; I just need a little break.
Instead of reading this as “the sequel” I read it as “the sqeakquel.” Oy, I haven’t even watched the second Chipmunks movie and it has damaged my mind 😛
Everything looks so good! I see the sweet tooth raging, but that’s alright once in awhile, isn’t it? That scone flavor combination of almond and apricot sounds different but delicious. I would also like to request that you FedEx me a slice of that chocolate cake ASAP.
No? Alright then. You’re the boss 😉 But I will be cheering you on next week with your commitment to eat less of the processed white stuff and more of nature’s sweet goodness! I’m awaiting your next fully compliant WIAW with eager eyes.
I’ve never seen the first Chipmunks movie.
Good question. Having a sweet tooth is alright every so often. Problem is, this was happening more than often. For a multitude of reasons (Halloween candy, office birthday parties, etc), I noticed I was eating sweets a lot and then when I realized I ate them for every meal on Saturday, I realized I needed a break. I was headed the wrong direction on a slippery slope. That being said, I figure I’ll be back to an occasional indulgence in a few days. You know me. I’m not really about restriction.
My next fully compliant WIAW….damn, you’re going to hold me to that, huh? Well, crap. Just Kidding. I’m actually planning on sharing a weekdays eats because it’s often quite different than my weekend food.
I went a bit out of control with The Tot’s Halloween candy, as well. And then I realized why I have limited my sugar the last 3 months. I felt terrible afterward. YET, and defying all logic, I kept eating sugar. DAMN YOU BRAIN.
It’s like, we know it’s bad, it makes up feel bad (and actually GET fat), it’s junk, it causes cancer, it’s responsible for the fall of Roman Empire (wait, was it?) and yet we still eat it! WHY?
Yeah. If I had to photograph what I ate in a day, it would be this schizophrenic arrangement of snacks in varying degrees of healthiness. With a killer homemade Hummus bringing up the rear (and probably sticking to my rear, as everything tends to do now that I’m screaming headlong into 35).
And BTW – breakfast pizza is a major win. Brava.
It might have been the root cause of the fall of Rome. Devil in disguise my friend. I got all the candy and sweets out of the house until I can be trusted again. I hope it doesn’t take long because I sure would love a piece of sugar, no matter how crappy it makes me feel. See, devil in disguise.
I’m with you on the age stuff, although I still want to try your hummus.
That pizza cross breakfast cross amazing concoction- you are impressive.
I’ve never met the breadsmith but I’d like to marry them too. Heck, I’d even kiss them post consumption of that onion bread you mentioned.
I did my WIAW full day style too and I learnt that my eats are really varied day to day and often dictated by whats going off in my fridge lol…I’m abit of a food nazi and hate wasting food!
Why thank you my dear Arman.
The garlic onion bread is to die for. For reals. As soon as you open the bag, you are accosted, in a good way, by the intoxicating smell of garlic and onions. It’s heaven in wheat form.
I like varied eats based on what’s in the crisper. It’s kind of how I roll too. Whatever I get in my CSA share is usually what ends up in my belly and since I don’t actually get to pick the produce I get in my share, it’s always a surprise.
Same wavelength my friend.
Thank you! Thank you for this. I’ve sunk myself into a dark sugary hole for the last week and am just now climbing out today! It all started with trail mix…then more trail mix…and more…and chocolate…and ice cream…and tummy ache! And of course, the more you eat, the more you crave! I actually made a point to make savory meals today in order to reboot my taste buds and thankfully it worked because seriously, I was already one mental breakdown in…I really didn’t need to have myself committed…especially with the holidays coming up! Seasons greetings from my padded room! Uh yeah, notsomuch!
Sugar is a slippery slope for me. I love it, so it’ll always be a part of my life, although I was completely overdoing it. What you see in these pictures was just a small part of the entire week. Oops. On the plus side, it’s all good now. I’m hoping you can say the same. I don’t want to have to visit you in a padded room. Well unless they have nice pillows. Then I’d consider it. 😉
I saw a Russian public banana on something like buzz feed (weird dating website photos from Russia was the theme) and thought of you.
Apparently part of the reason I like my layered veggie appetizers as meals-for-one are because I can double dip.
And Kristy’s boob was touching that guy at that thing that she shared a photo from. I don’t know the guy though.
Well let’s hope Kristy did since her boobs were touching him.
Russian public bananas…dating sites…hmm, now this is something I hadn’t considered, which is almost as shocking as the Russian Public Banana thing.
I’m coming back for another scone. Which I, as a single lady, can happily scarf myself without having to share 🙂
This is true and a perk of being a single lady.
