Currently January 2017

January 27, 2017 by Meghan 36 Comments

Since we’re nearing the end of the month, it’s time to slip another Currently post into the mix. Instead of rambling on, as is my usual custom, I’m getting right to the point today. You’re welcome.

Current Book: I’m still reading Barkskins by Annie Proulx. “It’s just alright for me dawg.” My self-diagnosed OCD dictates I finish it though.

Current Obsession: salads. I’ve made a deliberate attempt to up my veggie intake and as a result, I’m on a green bender. I’m averaging four a week. Now if only my sex life could be equally as exciting.

Current Indulgence: snack platters, they’re my go to dinner when the Hubby has to work late. Cheese, crackers, fruit, veggies, little to no effort…what’s not to love?

Current Drink: I’m on a Moscow Mule kick, and I even have the shiny copper cups to prove it.

Current Food: scrambled egg bowls with beans, cheese, salsa and avocado. I’m eating these almost as much as my salads.

Current Triumphs: Ave is getting her first official tooth. The Hubby and I practically had to pin her down, so we could peek into her mouth, and there’s definitely a tooth popping through.

Current Bane of Existence: Teething equals sleep issues. We’ve had a handful of late nights this week, so life has been interesting to say the least.

Current Needs: a break from politics. It’s making my head heavy and my heart hurt. I want to pretend it doesn’t exist, yet at the same time, we as a country can’t afford to be blissfully ignorant right now.

Current Non-Guilty Pleasure: the Hubby and I are headed to the movies tonight. It’ll be our first date in months and our first movie outing since before Ave was born. I’m really looking forward to it.

Current Confession: I’m also incredible nervous about leaving my child because that’s what postpartum depression and anxiety does to your head. “It’s a blast,” she says sarcastically.

Current Excitement: Ave had her first grilled cheese sandwich this week, and she’s a fan, which really makes her a mental prodigy as well. She knows what’s up.

Current Thankfulness: my in-laws. They’ve been a tremendous help with the baby. Ave and I had a rough one earlier this week, and my father-in-law was at the house in minutes, and yesterday, my mother-in-law sent me home with a boatload of food.

Current Mood: really good, so long as I stay away from Facebook.

Your turn. What’s Currently going on in your world? Current book? Current obsession? Current confession? Do you have to finish a book once you’ve started it? How do you deal with anxiety?

I HAVE to finish a book once I’ve started. No. Matter. What. Current book I just finished: Lucky Boy. Read it. Also, I think you and I might have the same palate: every single thing on here could/should have my name on it: snack plates (plus wine) and egg bean bowls. It is TOTALLY normal to be nervous about leaving Ave. Ignore the idiots who tell you to stop looking at your phone in the theater and check in whenever you need (or don’t, if that’s what you need). Have fun tonight!

Thanks for the recommendation. I’m adding Lucky Boy to my book list. The way I’m going I’ll get to it sometime in 2020. I’m still thrilled to have it though.

Ave is working to the best of her ability to thwart our outing to the movies tonight. We’ll see what happens.

What’s Currently going on in your world?
During the past week I have presented 5 programs and taught 3 classes. Traveled to Bowling Green one day and then Youngstown the next. Pumped gas three times in one week. It will take me all weekend to clean up the paperwork. I told my husband I need a secretary. Preferably young and male.
    Current book?
Train Your Brain to Get happy by Teresa Aubele, PhD and Stan Wenck, EdD
Do you have to finish a book once you’ve started it?
Yes eventually. I prefer books I just can’t put down.
How do you deal with anxiety?
Ice cream with a ridiculous amount of chocolate syrup.

Oh bless sweet Ave and her first tooth! What a miracle of life. I have been anxiously checking lulu’s mouth regularly. Thinking yeah that must be WHY.
Currently I’m planning for my first getaway in my head. It’ll be next year but I like to fantasize ahead. Derek is leaving to go abroad for a few days and I’m trying not to freak out. It’s over Valentine’s Day and right after my birthday which he’ll miss. Oh well that’s how the cookies crumble sometimes. I’ll take some of those mules please

I associated everything with teething for months until I finally was like ok, she’s just overtired. I had given up on the teething thing and then hello, there they are…she has two now.. Poor thing.

Can you have someone come help while Derek is gone? My mom stayed with us for a week in the Spring when the Hubby was away for school. It’s worth asking for help.

Movie date!!! Oh I sure hope nothing pops up to take this plan away from you… and I hope to hear positive reviews come Monday! I think Ave will have a blast with whatever babysitter is lucky enough to hang out with her. They’ll get into all sorts of fun shenanigans. I’m sorry lack of sleep continues to be the arch nemesis, but I’m thankful you have such rockin’ in-laws close enough to offer a hand when you need it.
I’m currently reading, “Quiet,” but with the extra time I’m having right now I have a craving to get into some sort of novel. Something light and sappy.

My rockin’ in-laws were Ave’s babysitter and we did make the movie. Hooray! It was a good time. The lack of sleep is continuing although I’ve resigned myself to her waking up once a night. Since I’m expecting it, it doesn’t feel as much as a hassle. Hopefully we get back on track before I change my mind. πŸ™‚

Glad you got in that much-needed time away for a movie date. Sounds awesome–what did you go see?
Politics is almost as inescapable as your tiny human right now. And I totally empathize–on the one hand, Facebook is giving me headaches; on the other hand, now’s a really important time to know what’s going on. I like your poster. Mine says “Now panic and freak out.” It’s a little more applicable now than ever!

We saw Rogue One and we both really liked it. Just in time too because I think it’s going to be leaving theaters soon.

The immigration issues right now is really upsetting. What happened to the words on the statue of liberty?

β€œGive me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.

I am in! All the Moscow Mules call my name right now, too. I am having a lot of salads lately but wouldn’t mind to have one of your snack platters to mix things up as well. I put falafel on my salads a lot lately. I have a recipe, I have taken pictures so fingers crossed I might get up a recipe post maybe on Friday πŸ˜€

I kinda knew Ave would love cheese sandwiches. After all she’s your girl πŸ™‚

P.S. I can’t handle the news. Not at all. I switch them off as soon as possible. Ignorance is bliss and you’ll hear of the big things anyway…

I’ve definitely been limiting my FB activity these days… there’s been a lot of outright nastiness in my family that I want no part in.
I used to finish every book I picked up, lately though I’ve been giving myself permission to put something down if it’s a dud and I’ve picked up more duds than I would care to admit to recently. I just finished re-reading Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me, which was the lighthearted fun I needed this week.

Congrats on surviving the first tooth and more importantly the first sammie!
