Week in Review: The San Diego Edition (#101)

September 25, 2017 by Meghan 39 Comments

Get your pads and pens ready because it’s time for the Week In Review.

The Week In Review is a list, in its purest form, not of the things you still need to do, but of all the things you have done in the last seven days. It’s an achievement list, an ode to yourself, a celebration of sorts, and a virtual pat on the back or smack on the ass. Wink, wink, nudge, nudge.

Need more details? Head here.

♫ You can do it, put your list into it. ♫

Ave and I spent most of last week partying like rock stars in San Diego. Alright maybe not entirely like rock stars since our constant sniffling was because of a cold and the 4 a.m. wake up calls were because of the three hour time change. That being said, if you’re going to be sick, San Diego is a great place to be, especially when coffee comes with this view.

Despite these minor blips, we had and still are having a blast. I have to give a special shout out to my girl Laura and her partner in crime, Vegas, who have been the most amazing hosts. They’ve given us their master bedroom, let us take over their home (literally since our stuff is in every room), fed us tasty vittles, shared their wine collection, taken us out on the town and shown us so much love and grace.

Without further ado, let’s get listing:

Ave, my little brother, and I hopped on a plane and flew to San Diego. We ate snacks, played with new toys and cruised the aisles every fifteen minutes or so. We didn’t nap at all, but we did meet another tiny dictator and have a play date in the sky.

The three of us also hit up La Jolla Beach one day to pay homage to the sea lions. Ave was enamored with the bestial creatures even in the face of their overwhelming stench. They are cute, but rank.

We found the closest playground and hit up the park a couple of times. We made it a point to exercise. Ave lifted weights, and I lifted Ave. I also pushed her stroller up and down some monster hills.

We balanced out our physical prowess with a sweet treat and an afternoon at Coronado Beach. Laura knows the way to Ave’s heart is through ice cream, sand and water.

We spent Saturday morning at the farmers market eating all the samples.

We went out to dinner at Cueva Bar one night, an Argentina tapas restaurant.

Suffice to say, we’ve been having a wonderful time, minus one major meltdown on Sunday morning. An irate baby plus a hungry momma equals a hot mess. Thankfully, Elmo videos have the power to save the day. Remind me to send flowers to Sesame Street.

Now it’s your turn. I’d love to hear from you. Link up and get yo’ list on.

What are three things you accomplished in the last week? Big or small. How do you handle toddler meltdowns? Have you ever smelled sea lions up close?

Also we now know Ave can handle air travel pretty well. Germany, here we come.

The sea lions were really good and you were able to get very close to them. In fact, Ave would have touched them if I had let her. Ha.

I love how Laura’s doing that thing that all mothers do when they’re feeding kids…half open mouth…like we can will that ice cream to get in the mouth and stay in the mouth : ) I’m so glad you guys get to be together. Eat all the cheese plates for me! P.S. Jonas would have dropped that weight on his foot.

Yay I’m so happy you two and the crew are having a magical time in Cali!!! Your little munchkin is too precious for words, she is just like her mama. Little miss personality with Mrs. P. You two will have a future of rainbows and roller coasters and everything in between. I love all the adventures. It’s so great that your flight was nice, it makes me excited for our next up in the air adventure.
We had a mini trip to Galveston last weekend for 3 days of beach, pool, and fun in the sun with our little monkey. She loves the water and sand, it’s great. Now that we did our first beach trip locally and it was a success, I know we will do many more beach trips. I’m not much of a beach person, but I gotta admit that my inner grinch absolutely LUVZ watching Lu play in the sand and having such a blast. i guess i actually can put my personal feelings aside and embrace this cool mom shit. haha!!! oh yeah i’m doing it. it’s GREAT! i love making memories. how much more corny can i get??? don’t challenge me. enjoy San Diego, i can’t wait to come visit you again! or meet up somewhere with the kiddos! did i hear someone say Magic Kingdom?????

I’ve never actual been to Disney World. Can you imagine? Ha. I think we’d get lost with the kiddos there and I hear there is no booze in the park. Ahh.

Ave loves the beach so I think a future beach trip is definitely a must do. I’m so glad you’re embracing all the things, even your own dislikes. I feel the same way about bugs. I pretend not to be horrified and barely even run screaming anymore, although I still want to.

OK Ave and Lulu will have a future beach trip together! Florida? I’ve never been to Disney anything either so that’s ok if you’re not down with that. We’d be good with anywhere with sand and water. Even fake sand…????! my mom used to take my brother to this little Florida island, Sanibel, every spring break. Cottage on the beach sounds purdy sweet to me 🙂

I love S. D! My big sis lives there and guess which of my many siblings I visit most often, lol! TypicallyI go when I cannot take one. more. day. of. winter. I used to take an empty suitcase for all of my avocados, giant lemons (from her trees) and goodies at specialty stores that we didn’t have access to, (Teavana,
    Lush) not necessary any longer.

I Love the farmers market too, it’s a great place for lunch. Wild Animal Park is my most favorite thing to do, but possibly overwhelming and too large little Ave.

Ave and ice-cream, a very sweet photo of her not grabbing and struggling for the independence of owning that cup! Impressive, so impressive!

Enjoy the remainder of your time there! And boy are you right about the sea lions! Peeeeeeyoooo! Lol! It’s their noise that chases me out faster.

San Diego is magical, and we found the perfect beach/playground for Ave on our last day there. It had slides and water. It was everything she could have wanted, and she had a great time and even traveled pretty well too. She didn’t nap a wink on either plane ride but I expected that and she was pretty happy the whole time. Hashtag success.

Oh! So happy for you all! And, can’t ask for a better ending to a wonderful trip! I’m with ya, S.D. has everything, (everything within its reach) to make it magical! Mt sister doesn’t have a bad view from any window either and she has a LOT of windows! One even with a sliver of the ocean if you squint! She’s up high with views of mostly ofmountains, the valley (a huge ravine), Fashion Valley Mall, and at night the lights down there are spectacular. Are there any bad views in San Diego? The cute and eclectic homes on flat ground (if you can find any) are interesting to look at also!

Me? I fell off my very tall bed because Iwas too lazy to get up and set my iPad on the floor. Broke my arm! Teach me to be so lazy. Today it had to be set. I have all kinds of empathy for children everywhere in casts now!

So happy you’re first ‘big’ Tripitaka Ave went so very well! Where to next?
