It’s been forever and a day since I posted; or really just a month, which is still way too long without oversharing or freeing my phalanges from their creative writing shackles. I’ve decided to ease back into things with a little Currently action, so we can get properly caught up.
Current Book: I’ve been on a Grisham kick (The Reckoning, Gray Mountain) with a side of World War Two dramas (The Nightingale and The Tattooist of Auschwitz), a few necessary guilty pleasures (Forever by Judy Blume and The Sisters of the Winter Wood by Rossner) and a thriller (Something in the Water by Steadman). Just in case it wasn’t abundantly clear, I like to read; a lot. It’s how I spend my free time when I’m not watching trashy television. Hello, two hour episodes of Hoarders.
Current Drink: so. much. booze. We just got back from a week long vacation in the Cayman Islands and I’m pretty sure I drank my way through it. Mimosas in the morning, beer in the afternoon, wine and cocktails in the evening. My liver is glad to be home.
Current Excitement: did I mention our vacation? I’m going to be living off that sunshine high (and alcohol induced buzz) for weeks.
(Sunrise – Grand Cayman – March 2019)
(Sunset – Grand Cayman – March 2019)
Current Food: all the fresh fruits and veggies. I love a good post-vacation food restock. It gives me the warm fuzzies.
Current Non-Guilty Pleasure: Juli’s white chocolate macadamia nut butter. She sent me another supply and I’m gorging myself on this tantalizing and tasty treat. It’s the perfect blend of sweet and salty. On a side note, the diet is going swell. Insert eye roll here.
(That mouse is the perfect representation of me right now. I did eat two giant jars in five days. I let Ave have a couple bites, but I wasn’t happy about it.)
Current Confession: it’s been weird not blogging as much. When I took a step back from the week in review link up, it was so I’d have time to write other things, not disappear altogether. Apparently, my mojo is taking a different route. C’est la vie.
Current Bane of Existence: the weather. Could I pick anything more mundane? Probably not, but in my defense, I went from 80 degrees and sunshine to a cold 30 degrees, rainy and grey. That’s a bit of a shock for anyone.
(Ave said she wanted to stay in the Cayman Islands forever. I kind of agree.)
Current Needs: to get back to the gym and the yoga studio. Thankfully, I have an elliptical in the basement so I’m able to get my sweat on without going anywhere, but I need to venture back to social exercise. I love a good group fitness class, especially spinning.
(Suzanne and Ave practicing downward dog.)
Current Obsession: the Cleveland International Film Festival. Even though it doesn’t officially kick off for a couple more weeks (tickets are on sale now), I’ve been fortunate to attend their Get Shorty party (where we watched and voted on a dozen short films) and their Preview Reception earlier this week. If you’re local, you should absolutely check it out. I’ll be at the opening night film, and I’m already stoked for it.
Current Blessing: our vacation couldn’t have gone any better. We went with two other families and had a blast. We snorkeled, swam with sting rays, built sand castles, explored billion year old caves, and lost our bowels at the agricultural fair. OK, that last one was just me. I re-hydrated with beer though.
Current Mood: mixed. I’m still riding the happy train but also expecting a unwelcome and re-occuring monthly visitor which means my emotions are volatile at best.
Your turn. What’s Currently going on in your world? Current book? Current confession? Catch me up on your happenings.
Love love love your blog! Your vacation looked amazing-easy, fun and relaxing. Also enjoyed seeing photos of Ave and “the big girls”. Memories. She will always remember that trip!
Hope Spring is around the corner soon!
I think Ave made some amazing memories; I know I did, and hopefully we can do it again it with the same two families every couple of years.

My Gosh lady! Your eyes much be seeing black type and white background even in your sleep you’ve been reading so much! Since all of my .. er.. excitement, I have had the attention span of a gnat. Or it’s hyperactive children. I cannot read because I haven’t figured out a way to do that yet while stirring your granola and moping my floors and cleaning the laundry hampers all at the same time and finishing none of it. How’s that for a run on sentence? It goes perfectly well with attempt at a run-on-life, super manic cycle still going strong and feeling unbreakable. And I’m seeing the best of the best, got the best drugs and all of that good stuff. Geepers!
I loved. The nightingale and the tattoo artist sounds like my cup of tea, if I could even have caffeine anymore. Coffee was the first to go.
There is something soothing about looking at, and admiring your vacation photographs and living vicariously through (not you, silly!) Ave’s eyes! I’ve been to Grand Cayman. I could just look at my own photos, but hey, I’ve seen those already! That makes yours better than mine. Besides, I don’t have a single one of Ave looking like she intends to rule that pool or beach and anyone else who dare to think they might share it with her. So cute, her determination is going to take her good places. Later.
Yes, life was so much easier in my day when hormones got bad. If we complained to our docs enough times they simply say, “ well, since you’re done having children, let’s just get rid of all those parts. You don’t need them and we can control everything with a little patch or pill.
I sure do miss your sunny face and fun to be ‘nearness’!
Vacation was lovely and magical and amazing, through Ave’s eyes and even my own. It was my first time to the Cayman Islands and I loved it. Now if only Aunt Flow would leave me alone. She makes me such a fuss bucket and that’s putting it nicely.
Have you tried audio books? That might work nicely while you do all the things. 🙂
I miss your sunny face too.

the worst part about going on an awesome vacation is coming home to cold weather! im glad you had a great time – she is the cutest (but you already know that and i always say it lol)
Coming home from vacation was an unwelcome dose of reality.

It is soooooo good to hear that you all got away on a vacation. A true vacation with hot sun and booze!! All the YAY!! I’m glad it went as well as you could have hoped. Now if only vacations didn’t have to end. But it’s officially spring this week so… there will be sun soon… right?
So cool you will be attending the film fest! Enjoy!!
So happy to see your post! Your trip sounds amazing and love Ave’s pose and confident little expression by the pool. Its finally starting to feel a little warmer here and today the first goose was spotted to come back after the winter. I get ridiculously happy when I see the geese come back It’s like this hopeful sign and it totally makes my day. Currently reading: The Art of Stillness.

Haha, yansur got me this time! Okay, once again, I got myself, typical me style. I decided to take your lead and read the book Tattoo Artist do Auschwitz. Too lazy (and rushed) to go find my own book, I dashed into out teen-tiny library and asked for it. I must have mumbled. Not expecting to find it because I’m almost always on the wait list, I was surprised when he walked right to the book and handed it to me with a friendly smile. I did see The Tattoo Artist on the plain brown cover at quick glance and checked it out without really looking it over, along with Mother Earth Living Magazine from last month.
When I picked the book up last evening to begin I didn’t think much of the fact that the title was missing the word ”Auschwitz”. Or that the Author was Jill Ciment. I started reading and was immediately very confused since the book began in the 1940’s and was about a Jewish girl. I read on and was further mystified but eventually realized my error, lol! The book, right up there as one of the most bizarre pieces of fiction I’ve read. I’m still thinking about it. And Imstill don’t know what to think about it. It was disturbing in a way that is sticking with me though I have to say the actual writing is good? Not my cup of tea, I think. Yet I couldn’t put it down and was grateful it was short.
oh yay!!! i’m so excited for you that you had a wonderful family and friend vacation! i am in total vacation mode as we are going to europe to celebrate my mom’s chemo and radiation survival… september! and reading right now is a treat. i can’t find time to do it. so reading this post was a very special and lovely treat to myself on this happy and exhausted monday. i just want to escape life apparently as i discovered on my mom night out over the weekend and over served myself. welp it happens! miss you and Ave and look forward to a meetup one day!
OMG I am embarrassed on how late I am commenting on this! But I know I get my Meg fix on Instagram which makes my heart very happy on a daily basis. 🙂
I am so so glad you had a wonderful vacation and feel all topped up with all the vacation feels. I’m still on that high too which is so necessary as we are going through our last month and a half here and there is so much to do. Right now it’s all the ins and outs of shipping all our belongings back to the UK… the realities of being an expat, not so glamorous!
Looking forward to hearing all about the film festival. Opening night, how exciting!
