Week In Review: The Currently Edition (#159)

November 19, 2018 by Meghan 23 Comments

Get your pads and pens ready because it’s time for the Week In Review.

The Week In Review is a list, in its purest form, not of the things you still need to do, but of all the things you have done in the last seven days. It’s an achievement list, an ode to yourself, a celebration of sorts, and a virtual pat on the back or smack on the ass. Wink, wink, nudge, nudge.

Need more details? Head here.

♫ You can do it, put your list into it. ♫

I’m eschewing a traditional Week in Review for a Currently post today because I really want to share, or overshare, everything that’s been going on lately.

Without further ado:

Current Book: I just finished A Breath of Snow and Ashes by Diana Gabaldon from the Outlander series. It was a good and necessary read after finishing The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt. Even though the latter won a Pulitzer Prize, it was an emotional overload and way too wordy for me; definitely not my jam.

Currently Watching: Making A Murderer on Netflix. I binged watched the entire second season and now I’m stuck waiting on the courts to find out what happens. The pace of justice runs slow.

Currently Listening: Up and Vanished, a podcast about a missing pageant queen in Georgia. The story is more intriguing than the production, which is a bit helter skelter, and I’m hoping, perhaps fruitlessly, for an ending.

Current Want: more time. I’m struggling with the blog lately and not for a lack of ideas. I have some super tasty recipes to share, but since I’ve launched City Hippie, I don’t have much free time. The little I do have is spent with my feet up and the TV on so I can recharge my batteries enough to engage in more toddler and granola related shenanigans.

(Only the coolest of people can tuck their pants into their socks and get away with it.)

Current Non-Guilty Pleasure: the Hubby and I spent Friday through Sunday at The Great Tree Inn, a bed and breakfast in New York state. It was our first solo get away since the tiny human was born. A full review will be coming soon, but in the meantime let me just say, “Bow chick-a wow-wow.”

Current Bane of Existence: the tiny human and I have been nursing colds, which is no fun, no matter how you look at it. Granted, my mother-in-law did make me a hot toddy and there was that whole hot toddy crawl business too.

(Fine, fine, twist my arm.)

Current Confession: I started seeing a psychologist, which has been great for my mental health. A happy mom equals a good mom or at least a much more patient and fun loving mom.

Current Advice: Be brave enough to ask for help when you need it.

Current Excitement: City Hippie. I am busting my non-ass ass on this venture, losing money (not profusely and hopefully not for long), and loving almost every minute of it. It’s giving me life and a greater purpose outside of just being a mother, which while lovely, doesn’t necessarily fill my cup to the brim. Speaking of cups…

(City Hippie representing at Creative Mornings Cleveland)

Current Drink: the only thing better than coffee is free coffee. Thank you to Caruso’s Coffee for sending me all these lovely bags of beans, glorious beans.

Current Food: soup, all the soup. Our most recent venture was a butternut squash soup that turned out so well, the tiny human asked for more the next day. Hashtag winning at parenting.

Current Needs: organization. I haven’t touched my planner in months and I feel adrift. Much like the blog, there just isn’t enough time to do more than jot down an odd note here or quick list there, and you can definitely kiss the pretty planner spreads good-bye.

(Once upon a planner.)

Current Blessing: my village. I say it all the time, but I wouldn’t be half the mother I am if it weren’t for the people who support and lift me up. Thank you family (especially my in-laws who just watched the tiny human all weekend), the Hubby and my friends. You know who you are, and I love you.

Current Mood: I’m excited for the holidays. They’re always been a happy time for me, but they’re even more magical now when viewed through the eyes of a toddler.

Now it’s your turn. I’d love to hear from you. Link up and get yo’ list on.

Starting a new buisness is certainly all time consuming! I’m sure all your hard work will pay off!

I’m really enjoying the new business despite the work involved so I’d say it’s already paying off.

I think your current advice is the best “Be brave enough to ask for help when you need it.” Ditto the socks. I must have them. My favorite put your feet up and chill fuzzy socks have a Christmas theme, so by January 2, I’m over them. These look like they could keep you toasty all winter long.

It’s funny, there is no bigger or more rewarding job than being a parent, and yet…and yet, we need something else, something that is our own. Hard to put into words, but I remember feeling the exact same thing when my kids were babies. For me, it was running; for you, granola. To each her own! Your City Hippie looks divine!

Thank you. Yep, Ave is my everything and yet I need more, or really something that’s all mine. City Hippie is giving me that, and I’m thrilled. Maybe I’ll toss in running again when the weather is warmer.

I 100% get the struggle to blog when the rest of life gets so busy. That’s why I stopped. I also 100% get the beauty and benefit of seeing a psychologist. It’s like a massage for your brain. Love you.

Brain massages. I like it. That’s the best analogy I’ve heard yet.

Really wish I could come and help you out with all the exciting craziness of City Hippie. Even if all I was doing was keeping you company and making you coffee 🙂

Would you believe this cold is still lingering. Grrr. I only really feel it in the morning now, but it’s a hell of a way to wake up.

There is only so much you to go around. Glad you’re taking care of you and also so fun to hear your excitement about your business! I’m kind of the opposite right now. Stopped my business and am super excited about blogging. 🙂 I definitely feel pulled in a lot of different directions at times and need to remind myself to rest. Your B&B looks gorgeous!

Of course I want to do it all (blogging, business, parenting, etc), but like ya said, There’s only so much of us to go around and we have to shift the priorities from time to time.

A busy time of life when other things must fall away. Sigh. It happens! It has to happen! But the times will balance out again at some point, and your planner will be there waiting with open…arms?… pages? I bet it misses you, too. Making room in your schedule to see a psychologist means you are the ultimate badass and I’m jealous and impressed that you’ve made this a priority. I’m having trouble getting myself in to someone but I know I need it.

That BnB stay looks amazing. As do the hot toddys. <3

I feel you on the time. I have two Google calendars and that’s all I can deal with.

But hey! I read a book! Love Warrior. It was pretty good, though I little introspective for my taste. I also found a new shrink. Here’s to paying someone $200 to listen to me talk for an hour! (Isn’t that what I’m supposed to have you and Lucie for? HA)

Miss you! Messages soon – promise.
